CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Quigley (Tom Selleck) is far from intimidated when Marston (Alan Rickman) challenges him to a duel.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Tom Selleck stars as American cowboy archetype Matthew Quigley in Simon Wincer's outback western Quigley Down Under. Answering an advertisement placed by Australian cattle baron Elliot Marston (Alan Rickman) to come to the rugged and uncivilized Australian countryside and shoot dingoes, Quigley finds himself halfway around the world, only to find that Marston wants to exploit his talents as a sharpshooter in order to wipe out the Aborigine population. Taken aback by this square-jawed genocide, Quigley grabs Marston and hurls him through a window. Marston, who controls the region, sets out to hunt Quigley down. But helping him stay one step ahead of Marston is the addlebrained expatriate American trollop Crazy Cora (Laura San Giacomo) who insists that Quigley is her husband Roy.

Michael Cristian Hickock was a known “dead “ shot preceded by an actual account of winesses. I like Doc Holiday very much though . His reputation for having a bad temper is generally known. His true life story for being a “dead” shot has many witnesses claiming otherwise, but, still to be feared.

Lines Quigley up in line with this old pistol target without realizing he is lining up himself in front of Quigleys quite recent rifle target (bucket at the end of the road).
Alan Rickman, so good, at bad. Dangerously handsome. And Tom, just plain Manly and mesmerizing.
I like how, of all Marston's henchmen, the Scot seems the most serious and professional one. You can see it also in this scene: the young guy gets cocky, but not the Scot, as if he knew that a cornered animal can get even more dangerous.
Why don't we get Westerns like this anymore? This is a classic!

I love that Quigley essentially is constantly at half his skill.
He’s using a single-shot, chamber fed, rifle with big rancher gloves, and refuses to have a sidearm.
I mean if you can do the things he does with the Sharps, there’s not much use in a handgun. By the time they get into the range of the sidearm, at minimum one of those rounds has preformed a thorough discussion with the organs of his opponent.

He doesn’t need it. As with any 19th century cowboy he was obviously quite proficient with one as he shows In this scene but his rifle suits him just fine. He was pretty much able to decimate marston’s entire 20 or strong army of goons with it.
This is why Ben Mendelsohn (O'Flynn) is so good at playing bad guys, he learned from the best! RIP Mr. Rickman.
And yet was great as Talos in Captain Marvel. Ben Mendelson anyway. Rickman's final movie and final line in it, Eye in the Sky, was epic.

I love how this movie shows that big actors often start off with small roles no-one remembers until they make it - O'Flynn the red head that gives Quigley his gun is played by Ben Mendelsohn who has done a lot of really big major roles in things like Rogue one, Ready player one, Missipie grand in the last 7 years.
That's the best line in the movie. It's too bad that Quigley didn't also say, your pistol target didn't shoot back now did it.
The late and sorely missed actor Alan Rickman was perfect as the villain with a dry sardonic sense of humour, a greatly under-rated actor

That was their ultimate mistake, untying him and giving him a gun. That was the moment Quigley thought "Oh, I'm not going to die after all" funny I saw the quote coming though where he was given the pistol and Alan Rickman said that he didn't know how to use it. I thought right there, wrong! He never said he didn't know how to use it LOL
Quigley would have died if he was given his rifle on the ground as originally planned. He would only have a single shot and if by some chance he manage to pick it up and shoot marston before he could get shot the two henchmen would have promptly gunned him down.

He is the same idiot who let his two henchmen take it with him to dump quigley and Cora in the desert. You would think him and his men would get to work learning how to use it immediately.
