You're a real character and combined with immense knowledge and a cat, how could I not subscribe? Great work! The menus look exactly like my ancient 50" LG Plasma that still lives and works like the day I bought it new. Probably 2011 or something like that.
Same here I have always hated electronics going to the dump, so I fixed them up and resold them, mainly CRT based tvs back in the days when you could put in a rebuilt tube and still make good money.
When bending the component legs you should have the pliers between the body and the bend. Removing the stress as the lead enters the plastic body. Hammered in to me when i first built circuit boards in around 1978 as an apprentice.
I recently bought a working LCD Sony 40" tv from a charity shop for £5 without a remote which I bought the correct one on ebay for £8 had it a good few months now working well 😉
I picked up what I think was a bit of a bargain a few days ago, an LG PA4500 for £55 with a 6 month warranty. I noticed a bit of screen burn but that doesn't bother me much, your opinion may differ, of course, time will tell. I'm a bit of a fan of LG, I like their styling and I've had a few LG PC monitors over the years, one of which copped out after 5 years or so but it was a simple fix, one of the capacitors had gone and I took it upon myself to give it a go after watching a couple of youtube videos. That monitor is still going strong and must be at least 20 years old now. I think people wouldn't be so quick to toss tings out if they knew how easy it sometimes is to get them up and running again.
If you have the know how and the equipment, why not? It is always good to save something from landfill, I used to do this when I was in my teens, but now not anymore, lost interest and incapable of doing fine soldering...
Good video ! like you i cant stand this stuff going to landfill, been repairing tvs since i was 13 ! lol. picked up a 42" panasonic the other week, stuck in standby, now working for zero cost 😀 am thinking of starting a youtube channel ? just need some motivation ! 😂
This is when the time where LED TVs are still well made. Their backlight and panels are very reliable. Unlike those TVs that came out after 2016 that can only last for 2-4 years then backlight and panel will start to fail.
I only watch these videos for the cat. Allens a cool bloke though. So its a cool mix of an amazing Cat combined with a random bloke repairing TV's whilst he simultaneously keeps talking like Jeremy Clarkson ftom Top Gear.
Most of the failures that I've fixed is due to a failed power transistor. The No. 1 cause is that the heatsink is too small. I always look to fit a more efficient heatsink and sometimes drill holes in the case for extra cooling.
TBH I stumbled across this channel by chance and immediately subscribed. Love the content, love the sense of adventure and the fact that you're saving this stuff, well a lot of it, from the scrap heap. Also from the first video I knew you had to be a radio DJ, you've got that sort of easy listening voice, with a slight hint of Smashie and Nicey, "and coming up next we've got Bachman-Turner Overdrive with You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet... B-b-b-baby"
MOSFET failed, have had that a tv. Just what caused it to fail, I replaced them with a higher power one. LEDs were drawing a little more than normal. Used it for garage tv for 2 years then sold it cheap
I've got an old 46' Samsung 3dtv that I really love and couldn't bring myself to take to be recycled. The screen is great, but the problem that it developed was that it would turn itself off (put itself into standby). You could turn it on again, but it'd switch off again shortly afterwards. I suspect something on the power board may have failed, but have no experience in this field. Nevertheless, I've kept it, even though a couple of repair shops near me have said they can't repair it, have considered buying a replacement power board off ebay & trying to swap that out myself. Is that a problem you've come across before & if so, is my guess anything approaching accurate?
I had that with a different brand some years ago, in my case 3 capacitors had blown on the power board, (you tell visually as the tops were bowed outwards) replaced those at a total cost of less than £3 and a bit of time spent with a soldering iron. I currently use it as......... a monitor for ny cctv. Mind you that was back in the day when you could pop into Maplins and buy bits without having to buy online and pay extortionate delivery charges.
I'd be happy with that, looks a nice pic and I really don't need the smart rubbish, defintiely have to start paying attention to Gumtree, FB marketplace etc. and see if I can pick myself up a bargain to repair.
Nice repair.. are variacs still useful with switching power supplies? I used to use a light globe box back in the day.. I thought they were either on or off but I'm not expert any more 😉
@@stormer6364 A variance connected to an amp meter is great for just seeing if there’s a short. At 80v ac if the amps start to rise then you know there’s still issues. Dim bulb testers are fine for amplifiers but not always accurate with TVs.
@allenfleckney5969 thanks for the info it's always nice to know what others do too.. the globe box worked just fine back in the day , I repaired TVs for 26 years.. used to use the Variac prior to switching supplies, but it didn't have an amp meter built in..
If it has an Ethernet socket (which it does) then it's Smart (or it was). It also has a Network option in the menu. The Smart features are in a different menu accessed with a different button on the remote. "No storage units available" can indicate a main board fault. Misty is the most beautiful cat I've ever seen.
Not entirely true, my Samsung has a network socket but it is *NOT* a 'smart' tv,. Some channels on Freeview are delivered to viewers through the internet and are accessed like a normal channel through the TV Guide. These channels used to be delivered to a standard called MHEG now changing to HbbTV.
Some great info in your vids. I’m curious though. Why did you switch the comments off in “The Great LED Con” video from 3 months ago? Did you get negative messages? It seemed strange to state how low voltage everything was but then state it’s too ‘dangerous ‘ to show us how to do the bypass.
my LG 65" got a white light bleed from the center bottom of the screen stretching about 3 inches up, im scared to open it, it just looks like a film or layer has opened or split :(
( paused at 03:34 ) Was his name Colonel Mustard? Could, or should have been Major Mustard. I doobee doobeelieve that the Beatles composed a song about Mean Mister Mustard. I don't know why all this negativity. Mustard is great stuff. No fat. No sugar. No cholesterol. Only thing mustard has going against it is sodium. We all need a wee bit'o sodium in our diets. Helps keep the electrolytes up.
Need a bit of practice. Loads of silence as you probe and prod and I spent longer looking at your mouse in the overlay box as you proved beneath it where I couldn't see what you were probing and you didn't comment . Apart from that you obviously have the knowledge so will keep an eye on the channel.

Thank you. Welcome along.

Nice to see people fixing old TV and not landfill
Most are not exactly old even
Great video Allen, love seeing old tv's brought back to life 👍
Great fix and loving these videos, nothing like fixing something that would most likely end up in landfill.
I bought a lg42" for someone 20 years ago and it's still going fine and well used.
Love the old LGs so easy to work on 😊
Ah look who's here.
You are a technical genius....
I mean't the Cat!!! 😅😂.
Now this is Humour. 😂😂
I have a Samsung 60” got it for free, apparently it’s dead but I got it to turn on and just needs a back light 🤣👍🏻

You "played the lottery" and WON with this one!!!

Heya, new sub here hope to learn some her to go start repairing myself

Do it don't think about it or you will never do it .👍🍺
No hard feelings Mr. Allen. My late Dad use to say, " if you can't make or take a joke...You should not be in this World".

He's a GEM alright :)
Enjoy your videos but am I the only one to find your picture in picture camera set up extremely annoying and spoils your shots😂
I agree. The PIP is distracting and not necessary 👍
The main camera is a good shot, the pip is just a distraction 😢 my eyes can't watch 2 screens at once 😅
When you said 42", I thought it might be a C2 OLED.
I have a 42" LG i bought off a friend for £50.
I still have my OLED 55" curved 3D TV, 2016 model, working perfectly with no screen burn..
MOSFET failed, have had that a tv. Just what caused it to fail, I replaced them with a higher power one. LEDs were drawing a little more than normal. Used it for garage tv for 2 years then sold it cheap

@two-countiesdashcam I may have to have a go at repairing it then as I really do like that TV. Thanks for the reply!
I'd be happy with that, looks a nice pic and I really don't need the smart rubbish, defintiely have to start paying attention to Gumtree, FB marketplace etc. and see if I can pick myself up a bargain to repair.
Before diving into the back of a TV what would you discharge? (If anything?)
Another nice one allen

What would the shop price fo this repair be if brought in.
Hi 👋 Yeah have u got any 120HZ HDIM 2.1 TV 📺 for sale?? 50”+ would be great 👍 ✌️ I’ve got a smart tv 📺 I could trade in as well.
Play Misty for me.
Sony CRT 22 years young used every day When it does go I will miss the screen degauss at power up. "Booomph"
OMG can you lose the PIP, all we can see while your working on the psu is your mouse and remote
Turn off autofocus to stop the hunting, and lose the PIP because it ruins the shots. But well done.
Another good one. If only tv`s smaller than 55" had any value where I am. 😀
I wouldn't want a TV bigger than 32" anyway
Hi Allen, do you have a tv to sell amongst your bits & pieces ? between 37-43" . (Would need to be posted I'm guessing). thx

How do you clean the screen properly please
Do u read my question

You didn't showed the label for the model 🤔
Why don't you get a cordless screw driver?
@@MartinJones-tl9kt I have 3. I also have a bike but prefer to walk.
How big is the clock? You might not need your glasses.
I just hope you paid absolutely nothing for this TV
Your video overlay covers what you are doing
Picture in Picture is a nuisance.
Are you being monitored in the community?
No point watching something I can't see because of the picture in picture. so I didn't.
Why have you got a freeze frame of a mouse etc on top of the working area. Lousy video.
Started watching paint dry instead far more entertaining
Drop the humour, it's awful. 😊
Sorry crap you pip is over what you are working on so we can't see what your doing dont you edit your stuff
