Thank you Chris! Very good lessons. When 52 years ago I used to program (today you say coding) in Fortran-4 language by punch card for IBM-370 mainframe computer, I even didn't imagine that one day programing might be like this! For each run we must wait two days in the line! You can imagine how many days took to debug a program! This generation is very lucky!
it's crazy that in the past 3 years i have used every inch of xcode and ios publishing (for unity and flutter) except actually coding in it, i'm here to start from zero again, keep it up nice tutorial.
I am a old programmer that had work with Machine code, C, Pascal , Visual Basic, Delphi , ++ and your video is probably the best tutorial that I every saw. It is so easy to follow. Thanks
This was a fantastic course. Took me 5 days with a good chunk of time for each day. But Chris' instruction and how he presents the building blocks of basic Swift coding is very intuitive and, for someone in whom coding is largely Greek, he presented it in a digestible and accessible way. Not easy to do. Very much recommend this!
I've been wanting to learn how to code with swift and I started in different platforms like tons of times. But result was always same they were all too boring with the "only info no applying" type of education. Definitely this video series was the one. It was so much fun and the best introduction to me. Also even English is not my first language Chris's English was very easy to understand. I regret that it took me so long to find this channel. I'll continue learning from Chris. Thanks
Brilliant series of lessons (Intro to Xcode 2023). I know over 7 computer languages and have written a few million lines of commercial code yet I still found every lesson informative and useful. Not just for beginners!
hi! I have some questions about app development and sounds like you have experience. I have this great idea and wants to make it real and wondered if you could give me some tips?
for people who have no prior coding experience, this is awesome! for those with experience with other programming languages, the verbose explanations can feel quite repetitive but still, a great experience... been working with react native over the past year, wanted to go native native, this is cool. amazing stuff man!
WoW I can't believe im grasping this as a complete beginner at a young 60yr old !!!!!! I have an app idea in mind I wrote out a couple weeks ago and have considered using a no code program to do it, but yet in the back of my mind I've always wondered if using a no code platform would put me at risk of it being stolen due to my lack of understanding of doing it myself to be in full control of learning how to obtain the desired results I really want it to do. You're Right. It's not as hard as I thought it would be. It's actually fun & exciting. I'm so glad i came across your tutorial.
I love this video, I'm glad I stumbled upon it. I recently started learning to program in C# and just watching this app being made from scratch has helped me tremendously even though I'm not learning Swift.
Hey Chris! I’m just getting into creating apps as I find it would be a fantastic hobby to get me in that “zone” of working when time flies by. I’ve wanted to build an app for awhile but I am pushed back from the thought of code since I tried to be a computer science major and hated coding. You made me realize I didn’t hate coding, I hated the people who taught me in such horrible ways. You explain everything very well, I am still an information science major and you have taught me more coding in 3 hours than I learned in 4 years. This is my first video of yours but I plan to continue my journey through watching your video. Thank you Chris!

Here's a coding part with the new mic: ua-cam.com/video/vnDvApSKMQE/v-deo.htmlsi=t-zCR3xBI2JYlD-m&t=95 Thanks so much for watching and learning with us!
Hi! You might be referring to C# with .NET MAUI or with Xamarin. They're both non-native and cross-platform, which means they get to develop in one codebase for iOS, Android, and the desktop. This is ideal for developing simple applications without the need to access hardware features such as the camera. As with any non-native tool, the main concern would be performance, and access/support for hardware-related features. Animations and drawing performance vary per non-native tool, but it may be slower compared to native performance. Swift is the native language for developing apps for Apple products. Its edge over other tools is performance. Hope this helps! - Pat
Is it common to use an iOS-specific method like Xcode? Am I making my life much more complicated by developing an app that works for both iOS and Android on a different tool like React Native?
Either approach can work depending on your app and business needs. You can develop an app natively to Apple platforms (macOS, iOS/iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS) using Xcode, Swift, and SwiftUI. You can also develop your app using cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter or React Native. As long as the framework satisfies your requirements, then by no means you should go for it. - Iñaki
So can I make an app and install it on my device without having to pay for the apple developer account? Or I have to pay them first to test my app ? And another question can I use windows or i am forced to buy an mac ?
Yes, you can develop and install an app on your own iOS device without paying for an Apple Developer account, for the second question, you need a mac. :) Xcode don't have version for windows yet. -- Joash
you forgot to show how this app will go to iphone and app store. Please add a section to show how we can add apps to phone. also where should we configure app logo..??
Hello Chris! :) Thank you so very much for your video!! I have something to ask you, but let me 1st introduce what I want to do. I have a cousin who is 7 years old and has autism, and his mom has a lot of cards basically to encourage him to speak and understand what is going to happen during the day. For instance, going to his grandparent's house, seeing his grandfather and grandmother, going to school, etc, etc, basically, the daily basis tasks. Because always she has to carry all of these "cards" with her, she asked me if I could do a kind of "homemade app" just to make it easier for her (I am an electronic engineer so she thinks that I can code everything - not true). I already did the front page of the app with this 1st class and I added a button like "start", and I want to go to another page with menus like: family, feelings, colors, body parts, etc etc, do you have any class that shows how I can do it? This is because if I choose on the menu "body parts" I want to have a new page with the image of head, arm, leg, shoulder, and so on... Just let me know if you have a class that shows this and then I can try to code on my own. :)
Hey there, @goodthings1231! Wow, it's really awesome what you're doing for your cousin! Creating an app to help him with daily tasks is such a thoughtful and practical way to make a difference. It's definitely a project that's close to the heart. About your question on how to build the app with those cool features like different menus for family, feelings, colors, body parts, and so on: we don't have a specific class that covers this exact type of app. But, I've got something that might help you get started. There's this video from our iOS Foundations with SwiftUI (2023) course that shows how to create a sample app (The Menu App). It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but it's a great place to start and get a feel for how things work. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/67ImaQ5P2Oc/v-deo.html Dive into it, and see how you can adapt the concepts to your app. And remember, if you hit a snag or have any questions along the way, feel free to reach out. We're here to help! Keep up the amazing work, and best of luck with your app project! Cheers, --Joash
Hi Chris, i came across your page through this video with 0 app development knowledge. I just want to ask if you can create a tutorial for those who want to develop an app for both IOS & Andriod.
Hi! Thanks for the suggestion. However, we don't have any content that teaches Android development. If you need to learn to develop for both platforms, I suggest learning a cross-platform framework like Flutter or React Native. If you wish to learn how to develop for Android natively, you may want to check out: developer.android.com/ - Iñaki
Hey, chris! Do you have or know of a video that is a little more professional. I’ve been coding in swift for a couple months now, but still don’t fully understand the professional style of handling multiple views. Nor how to use supporting files. Is there a video that kinda shows the build of a more complex app with multiple views and objects?
Hello, thank you for taking the time to comment. You may want to consider a Mac Mini, the entry level is more than enough for coding. and if you already have the other accessories like monitor, keyboard and mouse. :) --Joash
Great tuto Chris, thanks I have some questions plz, first i m working on chrome flex os how can i install Xcode on? my second question how can i make a form with multiple pages qnd with buttons on next / previous / send
Hi Chris, do you have a tutorial where you explain how to switch to other views? Let's say that in content view I have a stack with 3 buttons (view 1, 2 and 3), Each view shows some element and the button returns to the content view. Thank you
You are a very good instructor. You should apply a job in University of Toronto. I am wondering if you have more advanced tutorial for Swift Ui, like table view, connecting with firebase, push notification.......

What computer do you recommend for coding? Great video by the way!
Hello,
thank you for taking the time to comment. You may want to consider a Mac Mini, the entry level is more than enough for coding. and if you already have the other accessories like monitor, keyboard and mouse. :)

Hi Chris, do you have a tutorial where you explain how to switch to other views?
Let's say that in content view I have a stack with 3 buttons (view 1, 2 and 3),
Each view shows some element and the button returns to the content view.
Thank you

You are a very good instructor. You should apply a job in University of Toronto. I am wondering if you have more advanced tutorial for Swift Ui, like table view, connecting with firebase, push notification.......
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing ❤
