  • In this video, I travel to Sacramento, CA to make my final OTQ attempt in the marathon for 2024! It has been a long and difficult process to prepare myself to be able to run a qualifier. Marathon training is no joke, and all a runner wants is for everything to come together on race day. I break down how this race fits in to everything, and show you the trip to Sacramento to tell my marathon story.
    Check out my 2:18:55 OTQ Attempt in this video:

    I was following you on race day, was really bummed when I saw you dropped out. Hope this is not the end of your OTQ journey, 2028 will be here soon enough. Really enjoy the videos and you definitely have a fan in me.

      I appreciate that! Yeah, it was unfortunate timing, but rest assured I've got a lot of running left in me. I'll be around for a while;)

    The most emotional part of your video was at 5:00. I was there for my 3rd time still just trying to chase a sub 4. It didn't happen due to an ankle injury from earlier in the year during a trail run. I felt your pain even though our goals were different. Keep at it!

    Just had my first marathon and cramped at 18.3 miles 😩 don’t know if it was electrolytes low or not carb load enough or strength or weather😩🤣

    • @mottesen_runs
      @mottesen_runs  7 місяців тому +2

      I can be a number of factors! For me, I have definitively ruled out all nutrition as the cause. It's a strength thing with muscle fatigue. I'm highly susceptible to cramps and getting stronger is the only thing to have helped so far

    • @BiDiNFitness
      @BiDiNFitness 7 місяців тому

      @@mottesen_runs yeah I need to rule the nutrition out and build some more run specific strength…I have a good base but stopped a lot of strength…caught cramps on my lats too for crying out loud!

  • @bigken4874
    @bigken4874 6 місяців тому

    Have you tried any dietary approaches to solve your cramping? Ive heard methods like pickle juice really help.

    • @mottesen_runs
      @mottesen_runs  6 місяців тому

      Pretty much tried them all, I'm fairly confident It's not dietary (at least in my case). I'm working on a video breaking down all I've learned about muscle cramping from the past 2 years of marathoning.
      But I had heard the same thing! Let's just say I tried pickle juice and dropped out of the race from cramping..

    Did you ever get to the bottom of the cramping?, seems to be an issue plaguing me, always comes outta nowhere when I’m feeling good, I’d rather hit the wall.

    • @mottesen_runs
      @mottesen_runs  3 місяці тому +1

      Kinda.. Right now I think that my medication is the main culprits for why it’s so bad for me. But I did find that strength training and higher mileage helped significantly

      @@mottesen_runs thanks for taking the time to reply, i was thinking it could have been lack of endurance/ conditioning as only happened in my right leg, and I was good with my nutrition this time around. Keep up the great work
