Thanks for sharing another great ride Bryan. Always enjoy your humorous take on life and thoughtful comments that inspire others to get out and challenge themselves, it is so rewarding. God Bless & Safe Travels.
Great adventure! In Tupelo, you can visit the hardware store where Elvis got his first guitar. They say he wanted rifle for his birthday, but his mother talked him into getting the guitar instead. The rest is history.
Looked like a great trip Bryan, and what a beautiful route. It’s definitely on my list after watching your video. I never think about not finishing, and wonder when I’m finished why I didn’t stop more and enjoy the sights. When I’m with someone, I think “can I keep up”, and when I’m alone I keep the head down and keep pushing. It’s a great way to travel.
Amazing Video 🎥😁.. I actually felt like I was There 🚴♂️.. The Stone Wall was very interesting.. reminds me of the walls of NH, MA, & VT.. As land owners would plow the fields & use the stones to build property lines.. It was a crime to move Stone Walls.. 🤷♂️.. This has to be one of the Best Natchez Trail Videos.. it looked hilly 😳
Hey, BBB!! Good to hear from you. Yeah, it was way hillier than I expected. Not terrible grades but they were relentless. My friends had bike computers with maps that told us when they were coming up. So we could sort of mentally prepare. I didn’t do that wall justice. It’s really amazing. It’s a really big area with rock walls that are 5-10’ wide. Thanks for watching, man. I hope winter treats you well. ☺️
Love watching your videos! FOr example, my husband and I rode the Pine Creek Trail in PA from your video of it. We don't ride nearly as far a you do on any given day, but you inspire us to do more. The way we do it is leap frogging--one of us drives from point A to point B (usually my husband)while the other person get to ride it (usually me). The driver rides back toward the cycling only person and then they ride to the end (point B) together! It works well for us these days (we are considerably older than you) and we almost never camp (we have glamped though) and basically stay in hotel-like places. Sorry that was so long but we rode the Trace from Natchez to Nashville a couple of years ago and aside from the no so 50 mph traffic, we loved it. We stopped at all the places you did as well as others. It is a lovely ride! P.S. We never saw the little blue shack.
That’s an awesome system. I gotta try that with the Mrs. I’m glad you enjoy the videos and I’m also glad you and your husband keep pursuing adventure. The miles don’t matter. It’s about getting out there and seeing it with your own eyes! The Trace is a gem. I really loved it.
Great video. Don't know if you've thought about doing group rides in some area you want to go through. But, I have the feeling that if you announced your rides in advance, once in awhile, you'd be surprised at the number of people who'd willingly join you. I certainly would have on this one. It looks like a fantastic ride and I look forward to doing it. Thanks for taking us along.
Hey, if you’re willing, shoot me an email. We could stay in touch. I’m considering a larger group ride in 2025. I just gotta get my head wrapped around the logistics of it all. bryan@ridealongadventures.com Thanks for watching so regularly. I appreciate the support.
I carry two small power banks and we stayed indoor two nights with electricity. The campgrounds had electricity in the bathrooms but not at the camping sites.
Another great video. Each video seems to get better. However, all your videos are great. Looking forward to your Moab adventure. I am in southern California so Moab is closer to home. Thanks!
A great and informative video…I read the “Wedding of the Waters” before I rode the Erie Canal Trail…rode about 2/3 of the trail to Rome. Hope to finish it next year…the book was fantastic by the way.
I never would have expected a video about the Natchez Trace to feature the giant Hamburger Man at Pal's in Kingsport, Tennessee. (I live 10 miles away.) There's also a giant Indian at a now closed BBQ place nearby. Anyway, I enjoyed your video, the first one of yours I've seen. Looks like you had a grand adventure. Happy cycling!
Great video ! Once a year I traveled to Colinwood Tennesee to visit my mom’s family . I always looked forward to my dad getting so excited saying “we’re on the Natchez Trace!! Great memories .
Joe the Simple Man here, going to interrupt my viewing pleasure right here at your true confession moment at 20:30 and call you out as a poser. I consumed a "Tiger Sport" (if I remember correctly) energy bar that was 11 years expired, and I wasn't even hungry. It was fine. I have another one that is now 22 that I'm saving for a special occasion. Maybe if we get to ride again I'll bring it if you ask nicely. Now back to the show.......
I was cycling across Ohio many Moons ago. And for a time I rode with a doctor I came across. And he asked me, "what virtue does cycling teach?? " Well? The virtue of perseverance. And he was right. Nice ride. Persevere.
Yeah, that's a bit of a head scratcher but traffic is pretty light (except around Tupelo and Jackson). I'd imagine when this was constructed (1930s?) bicycle traffic was pretty limited. There's always a few bad apples (as you can see in the video) but the overwhelming majority of drivers were very cool and gave a lot of clearance.
Such perfect timing Bryan!! Hi. I needed a new video for today's trainer ride!! Thoroughly enjoying it so far! I'm up to five short rides a week, I am also weightlifting right after five days a week, and watch your videos with a big goofy smile the whole time. And yes, I talk back to you--out loud LOL!!
Thanks for the video. I’ve recently been looking into riding the Natchez trace next year for one of my trips. Also considering the gap - C&O as the other. Again great video
I was so happy to get up to this as my pedaling inspiration. A very nice trip....some scenery some history and you make it interesting and inspiring. There are a couple of channels I watch while I pedal, set to music and not talking...but you aren't just a workout video...though it can be...and I enjoy them. Sad to hear about the trails that were damaged with the last hurricane. Years and years ago a local rail trail was washed out with Hurricane Francis or Charles, they were just about a week apart...and local gravel/construction company did the work. Don't know if they had donations...but they were quick to get it back in shape. Don't know if those railroad bridges will get fixed. Depends on if there are local historic organizations or conservancy groups that can raise the money for rebuilding. Something that popular that depends on bikeriders for business should have it restored in the near future.
75% is a good number for when I feel like the ride is in the can. At that point. you know you're definitely not going back to the beginning + if you are, for instance doing a century, you already know you can easily do a 25.
@ so I gotta ask. This one is short compared to some of your other recent stuff, was there less to see and talk about along the route or was you busy trying to keep up with your company?
Utah has very bright, bright nighttime starlight. I have been through Utah, gee it's so clear, and the Full Moon I have been there and have had high above,😅 is really astounding to be a part of.
I'm a cyclist, and on a long ride, I know I can finish at around 65% into the route. If it's extremely windy(head and side winds), it might be closer to 80%. I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, and the wind is a major factor in the fall and winter months.
Bryan, we are enjoying your videos very much. We have had the good fortune of driving the Trace, the video brought back a few memories. Your adventures continue to inspire us. We completed the L’Petit Train du Nord in Quebec, this past September; 3 days, 200 kms. You would enjoy it. Look forward to your next adventure.
It seems like it would be a great driving experience as well. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for that recommendation. I’ve heard of it by name but that’s about it. Thanks for watching. 🙏🏻
I am a cyclist… done many 1 to 2 week bike tours… road and trail… I watch your videos to get ideas on what to do next.. to your question, each day of a tour I find that whatever the mileage of the day is… as an example a 100 mile day… I count up to 50 then I count down to 50… the first 50 I’ll struggle a little then I hit 50 and it seems to get easier.. so 50% seems to be my number… Keep up the good work.. really enjoy your videos… thank you…
Thanks, Gary. That’s an interesting approach. I used to ride with a buddy who absolutely refused to countdown. He used to tell me, if you count down it’s all over. I’ve had trips where the last 10 miles were excruciating and a countdown only made it longer. But other times, it feels like a fun game and keeps me focused.
Another awesome video, Bryan. Can't wait to watch the video on your MOAB tour. As for my "I'm gonna do this" milepost, it's 75% but I get an extra energy boost at 90%. Interesting how the body (or is it the mind) works?
Great video Bryan! I rode the Trace last April with the support of my wife. We stayed at B&B's and nice hotels along the route. It was a fabulous experience and we would happily do it all over, tomorrow. Thanks for sharing this with us. I'm a 50% motivation point rider, once I can start counting the miles down I'm set to finish. Best wishes from Northern Ohio. If you and Steve ever do a ride here let me know, I'll bring the adult carbonated beverages! 🍺
Love the new “True Confessions” segment (I don’t recall a previous one). Not sure how many preservatives I’ve eaten, but I’m still kickin’ Here’s to a ten year shelf life.
Hi Bryan - A terrific and top notch job with this video. You' re a talented screen writer, producer, sound mixer, video editor, etc... Thank you and stay well.
You were so close to Cahokia Mounds when you passed St Louis. If you pass that way on your way home stop in. They have a great visitor center with lots of information on the mounds and Indians that lived in the area.
Next time. I saw the signs when I was driving home but I needed to get back. I’ll for sure work that into the next trip out west. That area is fascinating. It’s just so crazy how little we know about these amazing cultures.
Great video, Bryan. I really liked your ending. Very thoughtful and honest. It really puts your experience into perspective. Very different from other trips you've shared. The Natchez Trace has been on my bucket list for some time now. Hope to make it soon. Thanks as always for sharing your valued experiences. 🙏 Gord
@RideAlongAdventures Hey Bryan, My bucket list plan was always to go by motorhome and park it at a nearby RV Park a quarter way and then retrace with my motorcycle, investigating all the various places and take pictures as I go. Then move another quarter way down the Trace and repeat with the motorcycle until I'm finished. Gord
Okay, here’s the deal. Long form videos can sometimes get a little boring. But you my friend had my attention from soup to nuts! Well done! You EARNED a subscriber, and I will be binging on your other videos. As a South West dweller, I am keenly interested in your Moab tickler 😊
That’s so kind of you to say. Thank you. And thanks for subscribing! I’m working on the Moab video. I only had 3 days there and it just scratched the surface of the area. I plan on going back in the spring. So incredibly beautiful. Don’t know where you live but I’m also thinking of cruising around AZ. The southwest is on my bucket list. It’s the one part of the country I’ve never explored. Beautiful.
@ This video was in the Top 5 of all your videos! The ride, the history, the insights were awesome. But the best part was the end when you were wrapping it up. Your thoughts on “faith” and ministry just touched my heart so much. Larry & I have been in ministry and serving in our church for over 40 years and you are correct…it all comes down to just wanting to be like Jesus. Thank you so much for sharing your heart. I will definitely add them to my journal this morning. I leave you with this-Whoever refreshes others will himself be refreshed…Proverbs 11:25…you have done just that this morning✌🏼
After an 11 hr work day and the weariness of world events I am recharged by what?! Getting excited to see that you posted another video 🤣. Hopefully one of these days I can finally go on an all out bike adventure like this 😁. Thank you for sharing
Great timing for this video. I stumbled across your channel while trying to determine cycling adventures for 2025. Somehow Natchez was never on my radar. I’m penciling it in for spring 2025.
Now that the touring bike has been put away for the winter that was fun following along with you on the Natchez! Enjoyed the history, especially Meriweather Lewis ( read a nice historical novel called Eclipse) and the burial mounds, very interesting. Your weather looked phenomenal albeit the chill mornings. I like climbing and much prefer it to wind. About your little question, when I first started riding longer miles I was living in Florida and I had an out and back 17 mile ride. So when I get to 17 miles from of my destination I know “I got this.” I just imagine where I would be on that 17 mile route as I count down the miles. I appreciated your closing comments (as I continuously struggle with my own faith). And yes, we do this for fun! Looking forward to your next posting. p.s. I like to give my fellow hikers and bikers Trail Names. Mountain Drew! Happy trails!
Thanks for watching and the kind words. It’s a great trail and was a great experience. I’m open to a trail name also. 😂 Mt Drew is perfect-I’ll let him know.
You came through St. Louis and didn't give me a chance to buy you a meal or come pedal with you? Maybe next time..... Awesome video and looks like another great trip!
More like “flew through St Louis”. 😂 Hey, hit me up with an email address (if you are willing). It would be easier to contact you next time because there WILL be a next time. I only scratched the surface out in Utah.
This is tremendous, and they are getting better. I'm a few years younger than you, and your experiences are inspiring and have given me a whole new set of goals. Natchez has moved up on my priority list. Thanks for the logistics info at the end. My question, with a hillier route would you have rather traveled lighter and done hotel stays? I'm new to touring and think I'd like to hang onto more of a road bike feel on a nicely paved road. Very much looking forward to Moab.
Yeah, that’s a good question. The challenge is the extra miles to get off of the Trace to a hotel/motel. It could be fairly decent mileage. It’s all a matter of whether you want to camp or not. It’s really accessible camping if you like that. Right off the road in most cases.
good to see Brian out biking again! i was thinking it might be a MOAB ride video. that must be next. what a great trip and the buckeyes where great riding partners too. typing as i am watching the wrap. yay moab is next. while i haven;t ridden since april, had a new hip installed, but while i was riding once i got to about 20 ish miles and got in the groove i could ride all day i think. thanks for keeping me inspired to follow in your tire tracks. sorry florida is closed for repairs
I’m working on the Moab video right now. Another great ride. Glad to hear the recovery is going well. Keep me posted. I keep thinking our trails will cross some day! 👍🏻
@@RideAlongAdventures i wish i lived closer to a BUC-EES. i would go there and drink coffee and watch people lose their minds! it's hysterical how much stuff they purchase while there. only comparisons are hershey park or when they opened the first bass pro shop here in hollywood. OMG!!!!!
@russellely1021 lol. I got to visit the bass pro in Memphis (the pyramid) and same thing. People were just walking around (me included) with their mouths open, total wonderment. 😂
Great question for viewers. There are so many variables. I will say that after many years of riding, rather than orienting myself around reaching a point where I think I can finish, throughout the ride I try to gauge to allow enough in reserve, so that I can finish, if only in “survival mode.”
Hey Bryan. Seems your FL A1A video affected lots of people. Loved this video. You had such great weather ... (using a Bryan previous word of the day!) just so much ‘apricity!!’ 🌞. The scenery and history was amazing and as is usually the case after I watch one of your videos … I now have another ‘must ride’ on my bucket list!! So the truth is finally out…YOU ATE that PAYDAY! To answer your question … On a long trip or long, tuff day in the saddle I feel the weight lift when I assess how I feel and I ‘know’ I can make those last miles. Might be early .. might be later in the day but once I ‘know’ … it is all downhill from that point!! Looking forward to the Moab video. Ride safe
The moment I know I'm going to make it to my destination would be when I say I'm going to make it, pre-ride. Otherwise if it's been a tough day and nothing went according to plan, I'd say when I see 10 miles left. Because when I hit 10 miles left, it's the time I also think how quickly it went by and how quickly it will end.
Dude…that’s bordering on poetry. I read your message in Morgan Freeman’s voice. Seriously that’s some deep stuff. When I used to marathon, I would tell myself that the day I stopped would be my last marathon. It never failed. I loved the experience enough to not give up.
Another great video - watched it while riding the stationary bike! Natchez is definitely on my shortlist. Given the amount of bike traffic on the route, I'm surprised they haven't added bike lanes with each new repaving project. I guess the choice for heading SOBO was just logistics since you drove from the North and didn't want to double back?
There is one channel Indoor Cycling Videos, and Indoor Cycling Adventures....not sure if it's the same creator, but they have spectular workout rides that are anywhere from 30, 45, 60 minutes and even a few hours. They are in Austria, Italy, Germany, France and goes into the area of the alps...Just saying over the winter if you need a new channel to workout with indoors...they have some interesting ones.
The follow up question is once you reach the point of certainty what do you do? Relax or push? Drew and I feel the siren call of the finish line and so we push. (Much to Bryan's chagrin)
On those Century rides it’s usually mile 70-80 when I get that mental boost knowing I’ve had another great ride. Thanks for the mental health segments, and the end of video reflections. I always enjoy your videos. 😃😃
@ yes he’s been there my entire life and has had several different paint schemes. This is the boldest color set. 😀. I was so excited to see you were nearby. You’re one of my favorite UA-camrs! Can’t wait to continue watching the rest of this video!
@TheBlindAcorn bold is right! The pic on the roadsideattractions website is so different I had to double check I had it right. The business did some reno as well. Man, I wish my little town had a muffler man! 😊 thanks for watching! I appreciate it a lot.
Great vid. Just finished my 7th GAP ride with a buddy, and it was just what I needed after being bombarded with the constant political trash that we've had to endure this past year or so. It's good to get away, talk to people and find out just how much good is in this world...
Thanks for sharing another great ride Bryan. Always enjoy your humorous take on life and thoughtful comments that inspire others to get out and challenge themselves, it is so rewarding. God Bless & Safe Travels.
I appreciate the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it. Great route.
Great adventure! In Tupelo, you can visit the hardware store where Elvis got his first guitar. They say he wanted rifle for his birthday, but his mother talked him into getting the guitar instead. The rest is history.
That’s awesome. Cool area.
You videos just keep getting better and better!!!!!!
Hey, thanks. That means a lot. I’m trying. 🙏🏻
You would enjoy this ride a lot. Just gorgeous countryside the entire time.

It was a great ride. Beautiful countryside.
Visiting the mounds at cohokia outside St. Louis are on my bucket list.

Sure thing. Let’s stay in touch. Glad you also enjoyed the Trace. It was a great ride.
Love the new “True Confessions” segment (I don’t recall a previous one). Not sure how many preservatives I’ve eaten, but I’m still kickin’ Here’s to a ten year shelf life.
lol. Rock on. I’ve got plenty more confessions coming. 😂
@ Alright let's hear 'em all, and maybe a dash of organ music ala Days of Our Lives or the Young and the Restless. Great video!!!
Hi Bryan - A terrific and top notch job with this video. You' re a talented screen writer, producer, sound mixer, video editor, etc... Thank you and stay well.
Turbo, you are too nice. Glad you enjoyed it. 🙏🏻
It’s an amazing place. Plus you could ride the MCT trail system while you are there.
Gord
Thank you, Gordon. Glad you liked it. Yeah, it’s a great trail. Worth considering.
@RideAlongAdventures Hey Bryan,
My bucket list plan was always to go by motorhome and park it at a nearby RV Park a quarter way and then retrace with my motorcycle, investigating all the various places and take pictures as I go.
Then move another quarter way down the Trace and repeat with the motorcycle until I'm finished.
Gord
@gorrdd that’s a great plan. 👍🏻
@@RideAlongAdventures Thanks Bryan 👍

Beautiful.
Wow! You are up early! Just saw your alert. We got our coffee ready and can’t wait to watch‼️☕️🚴🏽♂️
lol. I’m an early riser normally. Wanted to reward other morning birds. 😊 enjoy. This was a fun ride.
@sharonbrown1149 that’s super kind of you to say. Thanks for your ministry!
After an 11 hr work day and the weariness of world events I am recharged by what?! Getting excited to see that you posted another video 🤣. Hopefully one of these days I can finally go on an all out bike adventure like this 😁. Thank you for sharing
That makes me happy. 👍🏻 glad you enjoyed it
Great timing for this video. I stumbled across your channel while trying to determine cycling adventures for 2025. Somehow Natchez was never on my radar. I’m penciling it in for spring 2025.
Welcome. You’ll enjoy it. Great ride.
While there may be channels that show rides like the GAP and Cand Canal...they don't give much time...I enjoy yours, even old ones....
Thanks, Carol. Glad you enjoy them.
@@RideAlongAdventures maybe when we have florida back to abnormal or i amtrak north to ride
@@RideAlongAdventures i wish i lived closer to a BUC-EES. i would go there and drink coffee and watch people lose their minds! it's hysterical how much stuff they purchase while there. only comparisons are hershey park or when they opened the first bass pro shop here in hollywood. OMG!!!!!
@russellely1021 you got it. Let’s try to stay in touch. I’m actually thinking of another East coast greenway ride down the Fl coast.
Good point. There’s definitely that early thought like ‘I’m gonna pay for this later…’ 😊
The last 20 miles!!! Or - the last state 😅
that's so funny--I thought of your cross country and wondered if that percentage translates to such a long journey. :)
Ride safe
Glad you liked it. Yes, apricity every day. It was a great ride. History overload.
Great job. When did you do it?
Thanks-about two weeks ago. Great weather. Great trail.
Agreed. There are a lot of bikes! Yes to the “sobo” direction. Fewer driving miles overall.
I’ll check those out. Thanks b
The follow up question is once you reach the point of certainty what do you do? Relax or push? Drew and I feel the siren call of the finish line and so we push. (Much to Bryan's chagrin)
As you and Drew know full well...i just start crying. :)
On those Century rides it’s usually mile 70-80 when I get that mental boost knowing I’ve had another great ride.
Thanks for the mental health segments, and the end of video reflections. I always enjoy your videos. 😃😃
@johnfilicicchia1651 thanks, John. Glad you enjoy them.
@1:44. You were literally 2 miles from my house! I’ve been meaning to send you this guys picture!
NO WAY!!!!! That’s a great muffler man. They must have totally reconditioned him. He looks flawless.
Amen to that. People first. Politics last.
Thanks for letting me drag you up the hills good sir 🫡 It was a pleasure to listen to your musings and discussions
lol...you did an admirable job of holding back laughter at my "fitness". Good times, Drew. It was great to spend the time with you.
