  • 9/2/15 Update: Sadly I am disabling comments on this video. Thanks to most of you for the great comments on this 6 year old video. To the haters and shamers.... get a life! Karma and Kismet and still happy and healthy at 11 yrs. Karma still loves getting his winter haircuts and Kissie loves her long hair. End of story! :)
Two of my cats are Birmans, a brother and sister 5 years old, Karma and Kismet. Kismet never has a problem with matted fur. She loves to be brushed and groomed. Her brother, Karma, hates to be brushed and in the winter his fur is incredibly static. Plus he rolls around and rubs on everything making himself MORE static. Consequently he gets covered with mats in the winter. Moving into the unfinished house with lots of sawdust made it worse and we decided to make an appointment with the vet for a grooming and a shave...a lion cut.
Rafe had a cat, a Persian, named Oscar who was a rescue cat and was matted. he had a lion cut done on him and it worked real well, so he was all for it. I had never had it done on my cats before and I was nervous. But I shouldn't have been. Karma loved the haircut and was so glad to get the uncomfortable nasty mats cut off. I think we might do this once a year when winter hits and the dryer air causes static.
Since Karma doesn't go outside the cut doesn't make him any colder, plus we have radiant heat in the floors. Because of the severity of the mats and the time it took to shave him the vet did sedate him lightly. Next time if we catch it before he gets so matted we will do it without sedation as that is safer.
I think he looks pretty cute. ;-)
