Oh my God, after the third dupe in that game in 1 months time of release, I quit.. I just couldn't take it anymore. Would much rather this happen now than 2 weeks into release; this is a good thing.
@@Camelotsmoon I mean dupes will happen in every game multiple times its not something to " pray doesnt happen" anything is possible and people will spend countless hours attempting to find dupes and other exploits to get advantages same with creating hacks for games. Its about what systems and tools you have in place to fix these problems when they come up. Stuff like adding unique tags to every single item and the ability to delete them without server rollback.
@Merpgw2 The game already released with multiple other problems.. there were a half a dozen PVP exploits like immunity, questions of client side authority and then to top it off there were 3 dups in a months time. The entire game was completely botched on launch and needed AT LEAST another year to cook.
I reported one duping method as a bug report after the first weekend of wave 1 and assumed that it was fixed due to patch notes mentioning that they fixed duping problems. The items that I had duped were flagged as items that could not be sold to vendors.
if they really track itemisation so much such items and should flagged and not usable. Actual exploiters, who do no report those issues, but take advantage of them, should be punished.
@@GrappLr I stored items in my warehouse that were duplicated with the originals and I mentioned it in my bug report. It happened between the first and second weekends.
I found a dupe method on the weekend of the 8th-10th. Video of method sent in to report it. The patch notice saying it fixed an exploit was for that exploit. I retested and it was fixed. The current duping is a separate dupe.
I had something similar happen. I accidentally found a way to dupe commodities which I /bugged. However the duped commodities were bugged and I couldn't sell any commodities (even ones I got later) whole the duped commodities were in my cargo. I eventually had to delete all my commodities in order to sell commodities again. I figured the game had a clever way to know when items were duped which prevented any abuse...

The goal is to break the game, and report to them how you did it. Find all the dupes, bugs, wholes and ext. and let them fix it. Much better to find the dupes now when there will be wipes then later after release.

@@ghosy998 Yeah but it is going to affect the testing, because progression is part of this phase, and they just cant test progression as a holistic entity with people able to conjure gear out of thin air. Obviously, they have to fix the bug, and see if a wipe is feasible in the time they have, but if they cant get it done this week-end, even if they fix the bug, we are (worst case scenario) going to have set testing back one or two weeks. We know they do a lot of balancing with the data they gather, even feeding back that data into game mechanics, and obviously that data is now worthless. I can't see them wanting to layer the economy on top of an corrupted artisanship system. Good that these people found the bug, bad that they then spent the weekend exploiting it and essentially corrupting the database, for the rest of the test cycle. Maybe they can restore back to last week instead of wiping, or somehow remove the duped items, but that will depend on how many changes to the database they were hoping to implement this weekend and how their database is structured. It is potentially a much larger problem from a development perspective, than people probably realize. If this happened on a business application (obviously it isn't) testers would be losing their jobs. It is early in the test so (maybe) they were not getting to artisanship yet, and they can just leave it, but there are no real positives here.

Fun story, while every major guild on Resna was in town duping we were ganking the dupers. Over and over and over in their towns. Liniker you sir have the fastest alt + f4 I've ever seen. Hats off. My mans has the fast hands.
kindly reminder that all the enveus boss weapons, came from tumoks that shouldn't exist, that appeared after their members gaslighted GMs into doing hourly mesh resets which triggered those bosses on demand, that they already had members on hold to kill it over and over abusing this exploit, enveus used those SAME weapons when they bought the POLAR alliance giving you all of those same weapons, 🤣 long story short, flooding ppl with items that shouldn't exist in the economy started 3 weeks ago lol

No surprise a guy on our server was WTBing 1 legendary zinc for 200g, as he duped to get that gold, then plans to dupe that zinc. Alpha or not, those duping should be removed from alpha if they continue to do it after making a bug report and especially if they are purposefully abusing it
I 100% agree but as we all know, the people who were found to be exploiting XP with platforming mob kills never got banned, it would seem that Intrepid's current stance on exploiters, not the folks who discover exploits and report them, but the folks that continue to abuse them are simply left to do as they please. Thankfully, we'll be getting a wipe on December 20th, but something tells me that the abusive exploiters will continue to do so until Intrepid changes their stance on the matter.
@jebidyah I saw the same guy looking for zinc for 200 gold as well... I keep to myself and didn't know about the duping issues in the game... But as soon as I saw him spamming looking for zinc at that price I knew something shady was happening and thought to myself, welp someone found a way to dupe in-game. Ugh. Hopefully they get it buttoned down.
I mean, they could keep those players around for the specific purpose of gathering data and developing ways to identify others like them in the future? Obviously strip the ill-gotten gains and flag their accounts as exploiters and then watch what they try to do next. Just a thought.
the only thing your wrong about is, that that's a bad thing! its alpha let them abuse cheat and do whatever they want so its all fixed till release! :-) And i hope they don't remove the players!!
Thats why they let players in to find these problems to be fixed. Not sure why this is even something worthy talking much about. Development alpha so early in development was never before available to consumers to participate, feels like people have unrealistic expectations. This is not early access or beta access games you have ever played before, I'm suprised there is not more of these major bugs.
As someone who stumbled across the dupe. I originally brought it up in the Castus channel on the AoC discord in as discrete a way as possible. Immediately afterward, they put out the call for information on duping in the A2 News Feed channel. I recorded a video of how I was able to dupe and sent it via their ZenDesk since posting UA-cam links in the forums simply meant anyone who looked at that thread would now have the possibility of duping themselves. Not that it matters at this point, because it's obvious I'm not the only one who discovered this based on some of the screenshots floating around. The point is, this dupe has existed long before I discovered it, but wasn't reported until I reported it. I'm actually disappointed in the A2 community and especially disappointed in the folks who probably knew about this dupe before A2, for not reporting it.
@@GrappLr Well, perhaps it's age bias, but it would seem integrity is not forthcoming in the AoC community. I only say this because I grew up in an environment that made it very clear that actions have consequences and this isn't something I see being taught to the younger generations very much anymore.
you shouldn't assume, my guild reported this during pre alpha 2 when some of us found it. It was fixed and then I assume got reverted somehow if the process involves storage

I know you're a big ranger player in AOC. I LOVE ranger, im lvl 20 and I would love to be a better ranger and Im constantly seeking to find videos of good high level rangers to compare my self to improve, there a very few videos that take the deep dive of how to play ranger in the high levels, for example advice for hunts and marks when in groups vs solo, aoe vs single, etc. Hoping that you make one soon!
It seems I di not know. Duping once figured out always seems to stay in the game forever. This means that one small grp will find a way and keep it secret. Dark fall comes to mind.
If you find a bug like this try to reproduce it then once you know the process report it and stop exploiting it. Abuse it and you should get a temp ban or something.
Hey GrappLr, exploits, creation of hacks, duplication, ect are all things that MMOs have and its not a matter of if but when. Its complete normal and to be expected. The important thing is how the developer handles it and what systems they have in place to aid when things like this DO happen. For example, and this a very common one, when you get an item it has a hidden ID, and when the item is duped its not generated into the game world naturally so it will share the same ID as the "duped" item therefore if they have a system to check for items with duplicate tags they know they duped somehow and can delete them. This is just one example of a system to prevent and aid in duplication without just having to wipe everything, but there are many more.
Not gonna lie, pre-alpha testers didn't too great job if they had access for so long and so many major bugs are running around in the first weeks. At least they have tons of worse or better testers now that can help in development :)
2:35 Should the game build it's immunity system during young age or old age ? Better to deal with sweaty exploiter during an alpha or at release ? Are you playing for the early game or the full game ?
yeah we have a guild on lyneth who found this on the PTR, reported it to devs directly then but then used the dupe on live servers to craft like 8 legendary spellbows so yippie
Why is this an issue? 100% the reason for testing, fix it and reset servers and we try to break it again. New World lost 1\/2 a million players in 2 weeks due to duplicate bug, glad the community has found it in Alpha.
Not an issue for testing purposes. But never ideal to see that duping is possible, and also sucks for players who have been enjoying server progression.
I kept getting legendary copper wood and so on , but I did not know what to do with it , stations do not seem to have option to process it the highest I have seen was epic on any station , so I got rid of it :(, I did ask in global chat none replied so I thought it was useless ... and on the other hand with total wipe on December 20th, it matters little ... we will lose it all anyway!
The Duping bug isn't even the worst exploit. The worst exploit is the infinite respawn farming bug where you stand still and kill the same thing over and over with no stopping.
Just keep in mind that this is nothing more than a testing alpha. Sure, dupes are bad, but it is not the end of the world. There will be a full wipe in less than a month, so hopefully, it will be fixed soon.
You’re right. I just don’t like that a dupe this easy was found, makes me nervous that other dupes might make it through the cracks. We all saw what happens to other games with dupes.
Usually this kind of thing would call for a server wipe but surely not right? I mean its not like people are breaking the game TOO much. But then again you said people are infinitely duping legendary items.... thats pretty bad. Kinda dont want a server wipe this early but if it has to happen then it has to happen.
Server Wipe is already announced for December 20th, so I doubt they'll do another one before that. I don't think people would play between two announced wipes.
That is low take for a game in it's testing phase to call a bug "bad news". I paid 120$ to play it, like many others and i have no issues with its current state, i know what i signed up for, its not my first alpha. You are a gamer streamer and you should know that. What to you mean, "Bag news"? It's just a bug like many others and will get fixed like many others, testing phase purpose achieved. It's like going into a car fabric and complaining that some cars don't have doors...ofc they don't have doors, its a fabric, they are building them, some don't have doors, some don't have wheels or engines, it's normal. Same goes here, its a testing phase to find bugs, grats you found one but saying its bad news, it's an uneducated take.
people will not have shit. your zerg overly competitive guilds will. Pirate already announced that whoever abuses this bug gets kicked from his guild and reported to GMs. Its the responsibility of guild and community leaders to stop this until devs fix it. And its the responsibility of devs to preserve the integrity of the test.
You can’t stop it unfortunately. He can tell his guild mates anything he wants, they can still dupe and just not tell anyone they did; not get kicked and still enjoy benefits.
@GrappLr except that gear is hella rare. If somebody just starts throwing cash around and has all best gear he's at least suspicious. You can then pick and prode at him. You can't stop 100%. You can reduce the impact by making it a social stigma and a cause for exclusion from the community.
If you use a bug and replicate it and then report it, that doesn't excuse you from exploiting it a bunch more times. I hope the devs will strike fast and strike true and get these people banned.
I don’t particularly think they should, as that would somewhat lower the chance of finding bugs like this in the future. I’d probably implement harsh penalties like this much closer to release. But that’s me, what the devs do is entirely up to them.
As bad as as it sounds that there is a duping bug, I'm glad it was found out so soon. Keep the bug/exploit hunting happening! and remember to report them.
they know that there a bug the duplicate inventory and they are working on it, it's stupid use bug in alpha...you lose the pleasur of the thinks...you use use bug to have all the finish items..soon you will be boring and leave the game.
None of this make sense. Server wipe coming in a month. Why risk a life time ban? Crazy stuff. Lots of questionable players. I died 4 times on Friday to NPC's. Each time my body was looted by players.

@@GrappLr The best mount actually cost 0silver on Day 1, there was a bug that allowed you to buy Wyrmlings (flying mount) intended for royaly/mayors although the mount requirement only says lvl25. I bought a bunch of it and reported the bug. I don't plan on giving it away though and it's too tiring to reach lvl25 just to use it knowing they'll wipe at dec 20 anyway.

I doubt that will be the case. I don't think they want to scare people not to test and break the game, as that's what's most important during these early tests.

I can’t help but feel like almost every aspect of the way the servers function is bad. The logging in to your character instead of a server, the meshing, the disconnecting yourself on a vendor, crashing server workers to respawn bosses, none of this was even remotely a concern on other games. I could be clueless but it just seems like the code for this game more and more is held together with bubblegum. Game breaking bugs are what alpha is for, but I’m really raising an eyebrow at some of the blueprints so far
I just hope that dupes are not something we'll be seeing for years to come. It ruins games like Diablo 4, New World, etc. And in MMORPGS that are inherently economy based... it's the first and last nail in the coffin.

Hey GrappLr, exploits, creation of hacks, duplication, ect are all things that MMOs have and its not a matter of if but when. Its complete normal and to be expected. The important thing is how the developer handles it and what systems they have in place to aid when things like this DO happen. For example, and this a very common one, when you get an item it has a hidden ID, and when the item is duped its not generated into the game world naturally so it will share the same ID as the "duped" item therefore if they have a system to check for items with duplicate tags they know they duped somehow and can delete them. This is just one example of a system to prevent and aid in duplication without just having to wipe everything, but there are many more.

Not gonna lie, pre-alpha testers didn't too great job if they had access for so long and so many major bugs are running around in the first weeks. At least they have tons of worse or better testers now that can help in development :)

yeah we have a guild on lyneth who found this on the PTR, reported it to devs directly then but then used the dupe on live servers to craft like 8 legendary spellbows so yippie
Rip economy. I hope these dupe issues aren't a deeply rooted problem in the coding, and something they simply overlooked.

Why is this an issue? 100% the reason for testing, fix it and reset servers and we try to break it again. New World lost 1\/2 a million players in 2 weeks due to duplicate bug, glad the community has found it in Alpha.
Not an issue for testing purposes. But never ideal to see that duping is possible, and also sucks for players who have been enjoying server progression.
I’m glad they found it too. But always concerning when it’s shown to be possible to dupe. New world had what, like 10+ dupes even after they fixed it.

I kept getting legendary copper wood and so on , but I did not know what to do with it , stations do not seem to have option to process it the highest I have seen was epic on any station , so I got rid of it :(, I did ask in global chat none replied so I thought it was useless ... and on the other hand with total wipe on December 20th, it matters little ... we will lose it all anyway!
Never throw away legendary stuff
The Duping bug isn't even the worst exploit. The worst exploit is the infinite respawn farming bug where you stand still and kill the same thing over and over with no stopping.
Respawn is easier to fix
Just keep in mind that this is nothing more than a testing alpha. Sure, dupes are bad, but it is not the end of the world. There will be a full wipe in less than a month, so hopefully, it will be fixed soon.

You’re right. I just don’t like that a dupe this easy was found, makes me nervous that other dupes might make it through the cracks. We all saw what happens to other games with dupes.

There's always gonna be duping especially in alpha and beta. The goal is to remove them all before release. Even in released games like new world

Usually this kind of thing would call for a server wipe but surely not right? I mean its not like people are breaking the game TOO much. But then again you said people are infinitely duping legendary items.... thats pretty bad. Kinda dont want a server wipe this early but if it has to happen then it has to happen.
My guess is that they’ll just keep it until December 20th wipe.
Server Wipe is already announced for December 20th, so I doubt they'll do another one before that.
I don't think people would play between two announced wipes.

That is low take for a game in it's testing phase to call a bug "bad news". I paid 120$ to play it, like many others and i have no issues with its current state, i know what i signed up for, its not my first alpha. You are a gamer streamer and you should know that. What to you mean, "Bag news"? It's just a bug like many others and will get fixed like many others, testing phase purpose achieved. It's like going into a car fabric and complaining that some cars don't have doors...ofc they don't have doors, its a fabric, they are building them, some don't have doors, some don't have wheels or engines, it's normal. Same goes here, its a testing phase to find bugs, grats you found one but saying its bad news, it's an uneducated take.
people will not have shit. your zerg overly competitive guilds will. Pirate already announced that whoever abuses this bug gets kicked from his guild and reported to GMs. Its the responsibility of guild and community leaders to stop this until devs fix it. And its the responsibility of devs to preserve the integrity of the test.
You can’t stop it unfortunately. He can tell his guild mates anything he wants, they can still dupe and just not tell anyone they did; not get kicked and still enjoy benefits.
@GrappLr except that gear is hella rare. If somebody just starts throwing cash around and has all best gear he's at least suspicious. You can then pick and prode at him. You can't stop 100%. You can reduce the impact by making it a social stigma and a cause for exclusion from the community.

If you use a bug and replicate it and then report it, that doesn't excuse you from exploiting it a bunch more times. I hope the devs will strike fast and strike true and get these people banned.
I don’t particularly think they should, as that would somewhat lower the chance of finding bugs like this in the future. I’d probably implement harsh penalties like this much closer to release. But that’s me, what the devs do is entirely up to them.
No need to ban in an alpha where things are wiped in a month and we can only play for what 9days ibetween then? Relax lol

None of this make sense. Server wipe coming in a month. Why risk a life time ban? Crazy stuff. Lots of questionable players. I died 4 times on Friday to NPC's. Each time my body was looted by players.
Well, looting bodies is fine and intended gameplay. But the duping definitely is unfortunate.

@@GrappLr The best mount actually cost 0silver on Day 1, there was a bug that allowed you to buy Wyrmlings (flying mount) intended for royaly/mayors although the mount requirement only says lvl25. I bought a bunch of it and reported the bug. I don't plan on giving it away though and it's too tiring to reach lvl25 just to use it knowing they'll wipe at dec 20 anyway.

I doubt that will be the case. I don't think they want to scare people not to test and break the game, as that's what's most important during these early tests.

I can’t help but feel like almost every aspect of the way the servers function is bad. The logging in to your character instead of a server, the meshing, the disconnecting yourself on a vendor, crashing server workers to respawn bosses, none of this was even remotely a concern on other games. I could be clueless but it just seems like the code for this game more and more is held together with bubblegum.
Game breaking bugs are what alpha is for, but I’m really raising an eyebrow at some of the blueprints so far
they atleast had plans to log everything to catch cheaters and exploiters... if the system is up and running should automaticly flag people
I just hope that dupes are not something we'll be seeing for years to come. It ruins games like Diablo 4, New World, etc. And in MMORPGS that are inherently economy based... it's the first and last nail in the coffin.
I don't want to punish these people. Exploiters or not they help find major issues with the game and that's what's happened and very early.

1) Pay the developer to find bugs and test their game.
2) Tests the game and finds bug.
3) Gets punished for it.
