so good you guys! I think I had mentioned to you at some point that What I Talk About When I Talk about Running was my first Murakami, and I aim to fix that this year. This was a delightful little conversation and examining a story at this level is right up my alley, and sorry Krypto, I love ambiguous endings! Great video, mates
This short story (for me) is related to to a quote by Hermes Trismegistus: "God is an infinite sphere, the center of which is everywhere, the circumference nowhere." The christian message playing from the car kind of indicates that the main character went through a spiritual transformation. He says that for the rest of his life, whenever he goes through a hard time, he returns to that circle. He still can't comprehend it fully, but he just feels that it exists. It's only really then that he can comprehend it to any degree. For most people, faith is that way. This can be understood from the line in last page of the story where the main character says "when we discover faith, thats when we understand the circle as a given and accept it in our hearts". We people are all the center of god(circle that author talks about which is infinite) This story is something that has to be mediated. The perspective of Murakami, just wow!!

His fiction writing is… different than his non/fiction 😂
I read Running by Murakami as my first. And I read Cream a few weeks ago.
Super discussion, saved the video for when I could properly listen. Worth the wait 😊
Oh just gotten to the colours 😁
Thanks so much! We really liked the story!
The circle with no circumference and endless circles inside I just assumed was a spirograph?
Not a bad story at all. 7/10
I had to look up Spirograph 😂
