Just want to say thank you! Between filing my LLC and setting up my EIN your videos have educated me on the process and allowed me to set up our business with minimal expense. Much appreciated.
You're very welcome Matthew! We'll make an update video if anything changes, but the process is still exactly the same :) For the most up-to-date information, you can find that on our website: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/ein-for-llc/
I've been trying to open my own company for about 3 months and I'm still researching so I don't miss anything! Whenever you upload something it helps me out alot! :-)
I'm glad I stumbled across this site because it is just what I needed. There are lots of pay for nothing companies out there and waiting to grab your cash. I will look to this site and pay for services now
Hey Patrick, you're right... unfortunately, there are a lot of shit companies out there. Our website will teach you how to do everything yourself, but if you don't have the time (or don't want to), we'll also file for you. We prefer to present the truth and all options to our readers :) Hope that helps. Let me know if you need anything else!
Note, the confirmation page states, "It WILL take up to two weeks before your EIN becomes part of the IRS's permanent records" which means you must wait for that time period before the new number will pass the IRS taxpayer ID matching program. That means sites like Etsy cannot validate your new EIN until that occurs. Just keep that in mind if you're preparing for or in the process of setting up a new online retail store or business.
Thank for you sharing this information, I am about to become an Franchise Partner for the restaurant I’ve been managing for 12 years, and your website has been such a big help for me!
The address with the IRS is the mailing address for your LLC. It's best to use your actual address. This doesn't affect the publication requirement. Hope that helps.
I'm SUPER-EXCITED about starting my business and ETERNALLY GRATEFUL for the information received on the LLC University page! I feel like I should give you a percentage of my first contract! :)
Hey Guillermo, reference number 105 means that you've made too many attempts online to obtain the EIN (using the same SSN, ITIN, or EIN), each leading to an error reference/code. Solution: Wait 24 hours and try the EIN Online Application again. If you still receive an error message, then we recommend filing Form SS-4 by mail or fax.
The EIN does not make it mandatory to file a return. If you have no activity, you likely don't need to file, but you should speak with a few accountants to be sure as we cannot provide tax information. Check out this strategy: www.llcuniversity.com/how-to-find-an-accountant-for-your-llc/
I have learned so many things from your youtube channel, the only thing is missing that is how to get or how to apply for ITIN as a non US resident. Thank you
Awesome Asim! Don't worry we have you covered. As a non-US resident, after your LLC is approved, you can actually get an EIN without an SSN or ITIN. Please see here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/how-to-apply-for-ein-without-ssn/
Thanks for the video, I was able to follow through easily. Probably you could update the video to include my comment as follows. I am a Canadian and wanted to apply for EIN after the LLC was formed. Your video mentions that I will have to have a ITIN to apply for EIN. That is true when using online application, However by downloading the paper version of form SS-4, I was able to fill "Alien Individual" in place of the SSN/ITIN field and was able to Fax the application. I was advised by IRS on phone to do so.
Excellent comment! Yes, this video is outdated in that respect and this was a mistake I made then. I will pin this comment at the top for anyone else who does not have a US SSN. Use the paper Form SS-4 (www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fss4.pdf) and send it in by mail or fax (fax is much faster). On line 7b, write "Foreign".
Hi! I was just reading the Instructions for Form SS-4 and there's a Apply by telephone option, which is available to international applicants only. I'm from Brazil and just opened a LLC in Florida. I got confused because under this option it says: "If you have NO legal residence, principal place of business, or principal office or agency in the U.S. or U.S. possessions, you may call 267-941-1099 (not a toll-free number), 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. (Eastern time), Monday through Friday, to obtain an EIN". I hired a business address for my LLC in Florida, would that be considered a "legal principal place of business"? Thanks for all your videos! They are extremely helpful! :)
Hey Miss Grebin, apologies for the slow reply. Did you get it figured out? We'll have a guide on our soon for how to complete Form SS-4 for foreigners.
I've just spent my entire day doing research on ITIN, 16 hours literally!! I really appreciate all the information you provide for free and step by step, gently holding my hand and walking me through the process of forming my first and dearest LLC. But because of this tiny mistake I completely freaked out and lost my sh*t a couple of times while reading ITIN application process - how I need to mail my original ID with my address on it, when my ID doesn't have any address on it and they're gonna reject it, how the process will take 6-7 weeks and they will mail the ID back to me when I'm going to move to another country in a month and I don't know what address to put in the form to get the documents back, so I need to move first, settle and then apply and a number of other terrible manipulations I need to do in order to apply for the ITIN, for example to file a federal tax return, when I don't know anything about it and will have to hire a layer anyway! And just 15 minutes ago I found an article saying that I can file EIN by fax. I headed to youtube to leave a comment for others and give a link to the article and I see that you are aware about it! LOL "Video is outdated and I've made a mistake, sorry" - that is a nice attitude you know! I've lost half of my hair today and the other half has turned gray :'D A tiny note on your website right above the video, saying we don't need ITIN to file by fax, would have changed the game. Thank you!
O.M.G thankkkkk youuuu sooooo much for doing this video. I was Soo upset seeing $300 and $275 for the application. I was following you step by step and I get it right away. I can wait to meet to thank you for my independent.
All US citizens and permanent residents have a Social Security Number (SSN), which enables these individuals to apply for an EIN. If you are a foreign national with a green card, you can also use SSN.
Hi Amanda, that is correct. Apologies for the video... as it didn't cover that in detail and has a part in that is incorrect. We've updated this page on our site (www.llcuniversity.com/irs/ein-for-llc/), so it now has 3 versions of EIN instructions, including instructions for those with an SSN or ITIN and instructions if you don't have an SSN or ITIN. Thanks.
Hey! I'm genuinely amazed, that you respond to LITERALLY every comment! And here's my question: If I'm non-resident alien without SSN/ITIN, then can I get EIN for llc in other way than by mail or fax? I'm confused, because on your website it says, that mail/fax is the way to do it. But I've seen NRA Brazilian, who obtained this EIN by phone. I can find YT link if necesary to prove. Also how do attorneys and other registering companies obtain EIN for me in matter of days if I have no SSN/ITIN? Do they use their own SSN?
Hey Daniel, thanks! Appreciate the attention to detail ;) The Brazilian non-resident alien got it done, but it's technically not correct. That international phone line (267-941-1000; 6am-11pm US Eastern Time) is for companies that were formed OUTSIDE of the United States... not for non-US residents who formed an LLC INSDIE the US. The only method we stand behind is mailing or faxing the SS-4 (instructions here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/how-to-apply-for-ein-without-ssn/). If you hire an attorney or other person to get an EIN for a non-US resident, they are still completing Form SS-4 and entering "Foreign" in line 7b. The only difference is they add themselves at the bottom as a Third Party Designee. There is no way to speed it up though. So anyone who claims they can get an EIN for a non-US resident in days is most likely doing something incorrect (they shouldn't be listing themselves as the EIN Responsible Party and using their SSN, for example). Either that, or there's something we don't know. However, we've worked extensively on this subject matter. I'm not saying we're 100% accurate, but we don't publish any information we can't stand behind. If I'm wrong though, do let me know. Thanks!
11 minute response time - you're a champion C: So he cheated the system, but will there be any repercusions by using the incorrect method? I mean, that if the IRS doesn't really care and it works, then why shouldn't we use that loophole?
We don't know if there are repercussions; we can't say for certain as we're not the IRS. Again, technically that phone number is for companies formed outside of the US that want to get an EIN. So while you may get an EIN, we have no idea if the IRS representative understands what's going on and/or how they are entering your information in their system. There is a chance the EIN is issued, but the record isn't created correctly. The reason we don't publish this information, is that we can't stand behind it. And we don't know if it's a guaranteed/reliable "loophole". We only publish something if we can back it up and we know that it works for thousands of readers.
So, I've created a bit of a dilemma for myself. I created an EIN first but then found out that the business name I listed it with was taken. So I decided to send the IRS a cancellation letter like you've outlined in your website, and after nearly two months, I've heard absolutely nothing back. Now my question is: do I send a second request to take that EIN down, or just forget about it and create a new one? Does it matter in the first place? I'm hoping I can just shrug it off and make a new one (this time researching a name that isn't taken ahead of time) instead of waiting another two months for a confirmation that might never arrive.
The IRS is required to respond in writing to written requests within 60 days, so you should receive confirmation shortly of your first EIN cancellation. Don't cancel it again, but you can always call and check the status. That's the easiest thing to do. We have the phone number towards the bottom of this page: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/apply-for-ein-for-llc-online/
Hi Matt. I hope you can see this comment and reply back. I send an SS-4 to the IRS a month ago via an online fax service ( got the success message of course). I waited a month exactly and yesterday I called them to get a Verification letter, as you recommend on your website. The guy could locate my LLC, but he said my application is not in the system. I dont know why this can be. He suggested I re-send the form again and write " second request" on it. By mistake I sent a normal form, instead of the writing on it. Now I'm in a pickle. what if they find the initial application I sent and reply with the number and then get the other one I sent and reply with a new number. God only knows when that's gonna happen. This is so frustrating! What do you suggest I do? He suggested I call back on August 6th. I'm really confused.
Hey there, no worries. It's not a big deal. First, the IRS is delayed right now due to covid-19. Some EIN Applications can take 45-50 (sometimes even 60 days) to process. If you get one EIN, just use that. If you get a second one, it's not a big deal. Just mail the IRS a Cancellation Letter (www.llcuniversity.com/irs/cancel-ein/) to close out the extra number. Hope that helps!
Hello Matt I would first like to thank you for all the help I would be so lost without it. The question I have is when applying for an EIN should I always use my registered agent address for my mailing address? And would the same go for other important documents? Thanks !
Hi Cody, you're very welcome :) For the IRS, we recommend using your best address. The IRS doesn't really care about who/where your Registered Agent is. They just want a good mailing address. Your Registered Agent also doesn't want you using their address for all kinds of business things. It should really just be used on the LLC paperwork.
@@BabyGangstahh - Yes, the IRS simply needs a mailing address to send tax correspondence. The only thing that will happen is you'll have an EIN Confirmation Letter with your LLC name, your name, and your address on it. Hope that helps.
LLC University one more question ; if I already have an LLC and looking to be a member under another LLC , is it possible? , and what are your best tips for doing so . Thanks in advance
Okay, I see. The process is not straightforward and we recommend hiring an attorney. But here is the overview. 1. Someone needs to sell/transfer some of their LLC membership interest to you. This can be done with an Assignment of LLC Membership Interest form. 2. They'll/you’ll need to amend the LLC’s Operating Agreement showing that the new Member was added and reflecting the new ownership percentages. 3. They/you may need to amend the Articles of Organization (or equivalent form) with the Secretary of State, depending on whether or not the Members are listed. What state is this LLC in? 4. Visit the bank together, show the bank your documentation, and add yourself as a signer. We recommend calling the bank ahead of time to make sure you have all the documents they need. You likely need to go to the bank with all the Members. 5. How many Members are in the LLC (before adding you)? You may need to file Form 8832 with the IRS to change the tax classification, but it depends. 6. You may need to update the account with the Department of Revenue or equivalent agency in your state.
Hi Faye, you can either one, whichever you prefer. The IRS simply treats this address as a "mailing address", so whichever place is easier and/or more reliable for you to get mail. Hope that helps.
@@Homefront18 The video was just a sample. Can you ask the question as it relates to your situation? What are you looking to accomplish or what's your question?
Ok! After watching your amazingly informative video on forming an LLC, I'm happy to report that my LLC has been approved and is ready to go!! However: I had planned to set up a DBA (doing business as) name under the LLC - should I do that before applying for the EIN?
Thanks Sean! It would be best to get the DBA done before the EIN application. This way, you can list the LLC name and the DBA both on the application. Hope that helps! Keep rockin'!
I am registering for an EIN as a single member LLC . I have a home run Photography business. A few queries here please.1. Legal name can have llc without comma before. 2. trade name is just the legal name without LLC written.3. Type of entity. I don't know what to write. 4. Do I write photography service and prints sold. Thank you so much Love the clarity of your video it was so helpful.
For the principle/physical address, if we used Northwest (Albany) as the registered agent do we put their address ? Same with the "Tell us about your LLC" page, for the county do we put Albany or the County we really reside in ?
The purpose of the IRS asking for an address is to ensure that their mail/correspondence will reach you. No one outside of the IRS should see this address (and there won’t be communication between the IRS and the NY DOS regarding this address), so you don’t have to list the temporary Albany address you used to meet the NY publication requirement. You can just list your normal/regular NY address here. Hope that helps.
First off thank you for your wonderful help. Now to my question, if I were to file my llc with the DOS in new York using the northwest registered agent, I would have to list Albany as my primary address for publication purposes. When I apply for an ein number with IRS, would I have to list the physical/primary business address as the northwest registered agent address also? I am confused because with the department of state I would have to list Albany as my place of business, but with IRS I would have to list New York city as primary business address, if I am understanding what you said in the video . I am assuming this difference wouldn’t matter much, and that I may be overthinking this, but would greatly appreciate your confirmation.
Hey Michael, you are correct. You'll use the Albany address with the DOS and you'll use your NYC address with the IRS. The two agencies will not be communicating with each other.
Can I ask you when filling out the paperwork am i also creating a LLC or is that something totally different. I see that you put the LLC name. But was just wondering. You made the entire process so easy thank you. Even explaining everything how calm and clear you were.
Hey Desiree, thank you! Glad it's helpful. No, this doesn't create an LLC. This is the step that's done to get an EIN for an LLC AFTER the LLC is approved. If you stop by our website and click on your state, you'll find instructions on how to form an LLC. After your LLC is approved, then you'll get the EIN. We also have detailed EIN instructions on our website too. Hope that helps!
Hi Lala, no. An EIN is a one-time thing. After the LLC is approved, you apply for an EIN. The EIN will be used on the LLC's bank account, filing taxes, and other government-related forms. Hope that helps.
Regarding the mailing address and physical location of the LLC, in say NY, would it be the owners home address or the registered agents (UPS mailbox address)?
For the LLC's EIN, there is flexibility in the address you use as it will be treated as the mailing address of the business, so any address where it's easiest for you to get the mail. The address isn't on public record either. Hope that helps.
Thanks for a very important informations, i have a question and you might be able to answer it. i already have EIN Number under my name and not on LLC, do i still have to apply for LLC???
You can apply your existing EIN to your LLC by writing the IRS a letter, but it's easier to just get a new EIN for the LLC since it only takes 10-15 minutes to run through the application. Just make sure to wait until your LLC is approved before applying for a new EIN. Hope that helps.
Hello, yes it certainly Didi help, but I applied on line and got the confirmation right a way, will receive the approval via mail or should I continue with the rest of the paperwork? Regards Fred
Thanks for the video. Quick question; I'm making an LLC for multi-members. But IRS website only require me to put 1 person's information (name and SSN). Do I have to put my partner's information at later date? or did I miss 'add information for additional member' tab somewhere?
The IRS just needs 1 Responsible Party. The rest of the LLC Member's are listed in the Operating Agreement. We wrote more about the EIN Responsible Party here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/ein-responsible-party-for-llc/. Hope that helps.
Thank you so much for your videos. Say for instance I am forming a multi member llc (3 members). However two members are not US citizens and don’t have an SSN or ITIN so they want the third member who is a US citizen to list their info when applying for an ein. Is there any liability on the us citizen member?
Hi Izaak, the US citizen is known as the responsible party. We've written more about this here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/ein-responsible-party-for-llc/. You only need one person on file with the IRS for the EIN. You do not need to include all members. Hope that helps.
I can't thank you enough for your super awesome videos and website! It has made this transition so much easier! I do have a question though. I am starting a handmade gift business. I didn't know if I should select retail or wholesale? (I plan to sell online, direct sales, and move into wholesale in boutiques.) Or something totally different? I really appreciate your help and am so happy my friend (who is also in the process of starting his business) referred me.
Heck yea! That's so awesome your friend referred you Lacey :) Retail would likely be more accurate. Retail includes eCommerce (www.irs.gov/irm/part4/irm_04-043-001). Hope that helps! Let me know if you need anything else.
So what is Llc ? I confuse I’m trying to open a barbershop it’s two partners and why is only one person have to use their ssn to get an ein when its two people opening up for a barbershop as partnership? Great video btw
Hey there, the IRS only needs one Responsible Party. We have more info on that here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/ein-responsible-party-for-llc/. And we have a video on "what is an LLC" here: www.llcuniversity.com/what-is-an-llc/. Hope that helps :)
Great content Matt. Thanks a lot. Just one question. If I am a non-US resident but have incorporated my company as an LLC in Delaware it is possible to open a business bank account without an EIN. I have attempted to do so with Wise and Revolut without success. I was wondering if there was a workaround or if this is something I cannot avoid. Thanks.
Hi Tom, no, you'll need an EIN to open a bank account. We have instructions on EINs for non-US residents here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/how-to-apply-for-ein-without-ssn/ Also, here is LLC banking info for non-US residents: www.llcuniversity.com/foreigners/open-us-bank-account-llc-non-resident/
Hi Sheng, you actually just need to list one person, referred to as the "EIN Responsible Party". So either you or your partner will be listed. We have more info on the EIN responsible party for LLC here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/ein-responsible-party-for-llc/. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for the helpful video series. I filed my article of organization online and already got my filing receipt and certified copy of the article of organization. Can I apply for EIN right away or do I need to wait after the publication requirement is fulfilled?
Hey Darren, thank you for the nice comment. As soon as you have the approved Articles of Organization, you can apply for the EIN. You don't have to wait until you meet the NY publication requirement first.
Hello, when I opened my LLC 3 years ago it was opened as a single member LLC and I applied for a EIN as well. My tax structure was a sole proprietor. For this year I will have a member join my LLC and need to change the tax structure to partnership. I recently completed and mailed form 8832. My question is do I need a new EIN? I’ve read conflicting information for the EIN. Any information will be appreciated. Thank you
Hey Matan, no, you don't need a new EIN. The EIN is "attached" the entity itself, regardless of how many Members there are, and regardless of how it's taxed. Hope that helps :)
Thank you for your kindness and time to help and guide people like me, I'd really appreciated it. I have a question, I'm opening an LLC and want to import/sell raw spice in the USA, I got confused with the type of business category should I choose ? retail ? do I need to specify that I will be selling spice? please help.
I love this video! One thing I noticed when doing the steps, however, is my LLC does have a apostrophe. Yet, it wouldn't allow me to place it in the "legal LLC name" field. Is this still ok since I don't have the apostrophe?
Hi First of all, i would like to thank you a lot for the work you are doing , It is very helpful and I wish you a big success. I setup my LLC with Northwest like you adviced. I then use their address. Now I have two questions 1- In the EIN application, will I use the Northwest address as the principal LLC address and mailing address? 2 I am not US citizen but a permenant resident with a SSN. Can I use the SSN and apply online right? Thanks
Hi Yawu, you're very welcome! Yes, you can apply online if you have an SSN. We have instructions here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/apply-for-ein-for-llc-online/. You'll want to use your best mailing address for the EIN Number. And typically, when opening a bank account, the bank may want this address to match your LLC's other addresses listed. Hope that helps.
Hi, Thanks for making these easy to understand videos. I would like to if I should be entering my home address or the registered agents address as I don’t have a physical address for my business? Thanks for your help!
No, I never send them in. What they mean/intend with this, is that if you ever have to mail a letter to the IRS in the future, to make sure you include your LLC name, the EIN, an address, your name, and your contact information. Hope that helps.
Hi Kelvin, no, you can use your address here. This is private with the IRS and doesn't have anything to do with the NY LLC publication requirement. Hope that helps.
Thank you for this! If I filed a Sole Prop EIN, then file a new EIN LLC later for the same entity. Do I have to do anything with the Sole Prop EIN? Delete it or the like?
You can deactivate the EIN: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/cancel-ein/ - If a final tax return needs to be filed using the the EIN for the Sole Proprietorship, do so before cancelling/deactivating the EIN.
You're welcome Jeiver. The IRS doesn't ask for Members. They just ask for the EIN Responsible Party: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/ein-responsible-party-for-llc/ We don't offer such a service, but feel free to leave your question here.
@@llcuniversity thank you again for responding.. so here is the specific question that I have; my partner and I have an investment property that we do 100% of the management duties for. We have a 3rd partner who is a passive investor. We set up an LLC in FL. and we only put us 2 on the State LLC registration as Authorized member(he will be in Oper. Agreem), so the question is do all 3 of us have to be on the EIN registration in the "member" or can it be just the 2 of us? .. or better yet just one of us?
@@jespi510 - Hi Jeiver, please see the link in my other reply. There is only 1 EIN Responsible Party on file (not all Members). The Members are disclosed during the 1065 Praetorship return filing. It also sounds like your LLC is a Manager-managed LLC: www.llcuniversity.com/member-managed-llc-or-manager-managed-llc/
what if you listed general business when forming your LLC from your state, do you have to pick only from the options on the IRS site, or do they general business options as well?
They don't have general business. But you can use something generic if you need. I forget the exact clicks, but there is "other" section, and then you can enter something like "consulting", for example. But no, you can't enter "general purpose".
8832 is to change a tax classification. You don't need to do this when applying for an LLC. 2553 is for electing S-Corp tax treatment. We have more info on that here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/llc-taxed-as-s-corp-form-2553/
Hi Matt! I had issued a SSN when I had the O1 visa years ago. Should I introduce the SSN when opening al LLC as a foreign? The SSN was only valid to work when the visa was valid. I’m in the system, so I guess yes? Or will this affect somehow? Thank you so much in advance!
Hi Carla! This is a great question. Unfortunately, we actually don't know the answer. We're not sure of the pros and cons. There is a chance you may not have a US tax filing requirement if you're not going to be transacting business in the US. So maybe it's advantageous to apply for the EIN as a non-US resident (www.llcuniversity.com/irs/how-to-apply-for-ein-without-ssn/). Or maybe it doesn't matter if you use your SSN and apply for an EIN. However, we do know this. Just getting an EIN doesn't mean you have to pay taxes. It just means your LLC has an EIN. If there are no taxes to pay, there are no taxes to pay. This article will also be helpful if you are the only owner (Member) of your LLC: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/form-5472-foreign-owned-llc/. Hope that helps :) Feel free to keep us posted.
Hi Charles, I believe you are mistaken. This example shows the designator "LLC" being added to the end of an LLC name, not a trade name. Hope that helps clarify. Thank you.

Heck yeah!! LOL, you're too kind! You are very welcome Theresa :)
I get an error message 105. what does it mean?
Hey Guillermo, reference number 105 means that you've made too many attempts online to obtain the EIN (using the same SSN, ITIN, or EIN), each leading to an error reference/code. Solution: Wait 24 hours and try the EIN Online Application again. If you still receive an error message, then we recommend filing Form SS-4 by mail or fax.
I don't know really how to thank you. You're so helpful and logic. Thanks for your help and everything you share. Appreciated!
You're very welcome Kar!
Once I have a EIN. Is it mandatory to file income tax every Financial year even if you didn't do any business under that LLC
The EIN does not make it mandatory to file a return. If you have no activity, you likely don't need to file, but you should speak with a few accountants to be sure as we cannot provide tax information. Check out this strategy: www.llcuniversity.com/how-to-find-an-accountant-for-your-llc/
Great question thanks
Hi! I was just reading the Instructions for Form SS-4 and there's a Apply by telephone option, which is available to international applicants
only. I'm from Brazil and just opened a LLC in Florida. I got confused because under this option it says: "If you have NO legal residence, principal place of business, or principal office or agency in the U.S. or U.S.
possessions, you may call 267-941-1099 (not a toll-free
number), 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. (Eastern time), Monday
through Friday, to obtain an EIN".
I hired a business address for my LLC in Florida, would that be considered a "legal principal place of business"?
Thanks for all your videos! They are extremely helpful! :)
Considered. We have it noted. Thanks for the feedback.
I've lost half of my hair today and the other half has turned gray :'D
A tiny note on your website right above the video, saying we don't need ITIN to file by fax, would have changed the game.

Thanks.
So, I can apply for EIN under my legal name as US citizen??

Thanks for the info. In the physical location of the LLC section, do I enter my registered agent address or the company address.
You're welcome. I'd use the address of the company.
Hey! I'm genuinely amazed, that you respond to LITERALLY every comment!
And here's my question:
If I'm non-resident alien without SSN/ITIN, then can I get EIN for llc in other way than by mail or fax?
Thanks!
11 minute response time - you're a champion C:
So he cheated the system, but will there be any repercusions by using the incorrect method?
@@llcuniversity thank you. Fingers crossed

Thank you so much for this free and valuable info!

What if I don’t have an address for the business as it is an online business?
You can use a home address when applying for the EIN. You will need an address though. You can't not use an address and get an EIN.
@@llcuniversity really? What will happen after I use my home address for the business?
@@BabyGangstahh - Yes, the IRS simply needs a mailing address to send tax correspondence. The only thing that will happen is you'll have an EIN Confirmation Letter with your LLC name, your name, and your address on it. Hope that helps.

Thanks A lot for this info ... You’ve definitely saved me A Lot of money and time 🙏🏾
You're very welcome Kenny! If you need anything else, just toss "llc university" into your google searches ;)
LLC University one more question ; if I already have an LLC and looking to be a member under another LLC , is it possible? , and what are your best tips for doing so .
Thanks in advance
Hi Kenny, do you mean you want to own a 2nd LLC? Or are you trying to add an additional member to an already formed LLC?
LLC University correct .. already own a single member LLC , but want to be added as a member of another existing LLC
Thanks! I would've loved to see a multi-member application.
You're welcome! Ah, good call! We do have that info on our website though: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/apply-for-ein-for-llc-online/
Do you put your actual home address or can you put a virtual office address for the EIN?
Hi Faye, you can either one, whichever you prefer. The IRS simply treats this address as a "mailing address", so whichever place is easier and/or more reliable for you to get mail. Hope that helps.
question did you put your address for physical and clicked yes for different mailing address. or used virtual office for all?
@@Homefront18 The video was just a sample. Can you ask the question as it relates to your situation? What are you looking to accomplish or what's your question?

Ok! After watching your amazingly informative video on forming an LLC, I'm happy to report that my LLC has been approved and is ready to go!! However: I had planned to set up a DBA (doing business as) name under the LLC - should I do that before applying for the EIN?
Thanks Sean! It would be best to get the DBA done before the EIN application. This way, you can list the LLC name and the DBA both on the application. Hope that helps! Keep rockin'!
Any tips you may have on Duns number?

Hey Saba, did you already form an LLC? Did you also file a DBA too... or no, just LLC?
thank you for the Great explanation.
You're welcome!
Thank you !
Thanks man,you made it so easy!👊
You're welcome Daniel!
If I don't have a storefront or an office for the physical location of my LLC, can I just use my primary residence address?
Yes, you can use any mailing or primary residence address that you'd like.
This is great video. Can I share this with my college class?
Thanks Laura. Yes, you certainly can :)
First off thank you for your wonderful help. Now to my
question, if I were to file my llc with the DOS in new York using the northwest
registered agent, I would have to list Albany as my primary address for
publication purposes. When I apply for an ein number with IRS, would I have to
list the physical/primary business address as the northwest registered agent
address also? I am confused because with the department of state I would have
to list Albany as my place of business, but with IRS I would have to list New York
city as primary business address, if I am understanding what you said in the video
. I am assuming this difference wouldn’t matter much, and that I may be overthinking this, but would greatly appreciate
your confirmation.
Hey Michael, you are correct. You'll use the Albany address with the DOS and you'll use your NYC address with the IRS. The two agencies will not be communicating with each other.
Thank you for your help! Yes I finally got that portion completed.
Awesome. You're welcome!
@@llcuniversity Hiiii!! I had the EXACTTT same question thank you so very much!!

Looks so easy !!!
Do i have to do this every year???
Or is forever??
Hi Lala, no. An EIN is a one-time thing. After the LLC is approved, you apply for an EIN. The EIN will be used on the LLC's bank account, filing taxes, and other government-related forms. Hope that helps.
When EIN NUMBER is available to see en sunbiz at the record LLC? Now just said NONE. Date of EIN was: 07-03-2017
You'll see your EIN appear after you file your first Annual Report. It'll be due in 2018.
Thank you so much!!!! Love ur educational video
You're very welcome!
Fantastic explanation!! thanks
Thanks Carlos!

Hi Fred, if your LLC approval was electronic, then it has the same effect. You're good to proceed :)
LLC University how do I get my LLC approved?Where do I go?
Thanks for the video. Quick question; I'm making an LLC for multi-members. But IRS website only require me to put 1 person's information (name and SSN). Do I have to put my partner's information at later date? or did I miss 'add information for additional member' tab somewhere?
The IRS just needs 1 Responsible Party. The rest of the LLC Member's are listed in the Operating Agreement. We wrote more about the EIN Responsible Party here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/ein-responsible-party-for-llc/. Hope that helps.
you just need one responsible party to get your EIN!

Thank you so much for the helpful video series. I filed my article of organization online and already got my filing receipt and certified copy of the article of organization. Can I apply for EIN right away or do I need to wait after the publication requirement is fulfilled?

Hello, when I opened my LLC 3 years ago it was opened as a single member LLC and I applied for a EIN as well. My tax structure was a sole proprietor. For this year I will have a member join my LLC and need to change the tax structure to partnership. I recently completed and mailed form 8832. My question is do I need a new EIN? 2 I am not US citizen but a permenant resident with a SSN. Can I use the SSN and apply online right?

Hi Yawu, you're very welcome! Yes, you can apply online if you have an SSN. We have instructions here: www.llcuniversity.com/irs/apply-for-ein-for-llc-online/.
So whats the Form 8832 and 2553. I read it but not quite sure if I should apply for it?
@@llcuniversity appreciate your answer! :)))
@@carlaetcetera - You're welcome Carla :)
Hi! Can a B1 visa holder also get a tax ID number?
What type of Tax ID Number do you need? An EIN (Employer Identification Number) for an LLC you formed... or something else?
This was VERY helpful, Thanks!
You're welcome Bonnie!
Why did you add LLC to the end of the trade name, when it clearly stated not to?
Hi Charles, I believe you are mistaken. This example shows the designator "LLC" being added to the end of an LLC name, not a trade name. Hope that helps clarify. Thank you.
