  • Many shoppers are ditching compact sedans and hatchbacks for "crossovers" like the Nissan Kicks. If you plan on doing a lot of highway travel, you may want to reconsider that decision. 35 mpg certainly isn't bad, but you'd do much better in a small car with the same engine.

Yes Charlie, the fashionable CUV shape comes with a substantial mpg penalty on every highway drive of the vehicle's lifespan. On a positive note, your video proves a Kicks can
    do 72 mph. 😉

I agree its a hatchback. I wonder whatever happened to the NIssan Kicks E-Power version they were teasing a couple years back. Hmmm... it was supposed to be like the BMW i3 where its an EV with a generator rather than a normal hybrid.

Thanks for this video. It was interesting to see the real world numbers for the kicks. Believe it or not, I had never actually thought about the fact that a sedan would give you even better mileage. I'll have to really give it some thought when I lease my next vehicle in 2 years' time.

Glad you enjoyed! Yes, if you do a lot of highway driving, a sedan can save you money and be more comfortable. Mazda 3, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry are all great options.

10,000 miles in to my 2019 kicks sv and i've averaged 35-40 miles per gallon (sometimes even 45)... i've noticed significant improvement (to the tune of 5-7+ mpg) having switched from 93 octane to 87, and especially keeping the tires at 32/33 psi.

Yes, there is a digital speed readout. You just haven't accessed it. I look at it every time I drive. I keep it visible all the time.

14km/l is decent enough. some owners have better numbers (16-18km/l), maybe there's a trick in driving modes. yes I convert it to km. :P
this car is meant for city driving about 80% of the time, I guess. In city driving it gives around 18-25km/l, according to some.
for me and my wife, we really like this car because of it's looks, compact size, and as a bonus, fuel efficiency.

How is your driving. Lead foot. Fast acceleration. 72 mph on the highway like in the video? My 2012 Rio has a 138hp engine and I drive it like a small 4cyl has to be driven for great mileage. Sometimes I like to drive faster and the mileage drops drastically. Such small dislpacements engine are not made for speed. I'm supposing you drive your Kicks more agressively than I do my Rio. I'm not implying anything here.

@@mjsmjs7905 I haven’t tested it out yet cause I don’t have it but 40 MPG is much better when the gas tank is unfortunately sooo small. But I mean it’s an amazing car for a teen and if it’s just used to get to school and back, to a sport, or occasionally just going somewhere to have fun I think it should be perfectly fine!

This is terrible... comparing for instance to a suzuki vitara 4x4 (1,4L turbo petrol) I get 35-40 mpg, while driving a Golf (1,5L turbopetrol) I get arround 45-50 mpg; or you can get the VW brand (Škoda Fabia) 1,0L 3cyl turbopetrol and do 60 mpg (but i still prefer my diesel for highway mpg because petrol engines tend to start guzzling when loaded and at highway speeds)

EU vehicles, for whatever reason, have always been more fuel efficient. For example, the 2019 Ford Fiesta ST (EU spec) is said to average 44.1 mpg. The 2019 Ford Fiesta ST (US spec) is said to average 33 mpg. So for a US spec vehicle, typically anything above 30 mpg combined is great for a petrol vehicle.
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra (non hybrid) is one of the best fuel efficient US spec vehicles and is rated for 31 city, 41 highway for instance.

Well a few things are different. He's doing roughly 120 kph and American gallons are different sizes. They're smaller than usual which often means we use more gallons. Plus those are very small engines and this uses a larger inline 4. And I'm willing to bet this American spec Nissan is much larger than the European counterparts. Most American versions of anything imported are often swollen versions sold here. Bit heavier and larger and more ground clearance.

Diesel is currently about $6.50+ in my state. Regular 87 is about $4.10. So unless you're comparing a Ram TRX to a diesel Jetta, not sure that's a great idea, unfortunately. Not many automakers in the US even have mainstream diesel vehicles anymore which is unfortunate. I used to love the TDIs until erm.. D*eselgate
