Hi friends! Thanks for your patience on this video, we were hard at work on it for awhile! We unfortunately did make a mistake while intending to show an image of Counter-Culture Dominique; Annik (who is in the same line) is shown instead. Sorry about that! What did you love most (or not so much) about this convention? Let us know in the comments!
My Theory about the convention theme for nuface and FR is that there was a production issue (delay) . Like some dolls wont make it on time. So they decided to just put random dolls that are already available (soon to be available ) for the convention. Remember, we never had a main FR line last year after the maison FR. So I think the military theme that was used for the convention was supposed to be last year's main FR Line and the supposed FR convention theme was obession with ROYALS Consisting of Sovereign adele and Gracefull Reign Vanessa (super delayed doll).. Both have a cohesive royalty look . even the fashion name says it all. Sovereign and reign.very royal blood.. Thats why sovereign adele dont go well with vendetta agnes and chain of command natalia. Because natalia and agnes' theme is a male outfit that are feminised.. Soverreign doesnt fit well with that .. With Nuface.. I think we never had a main nuface line either last year or a year before that.. And the nuface theme that was supposed to be the main nuface line for the prior year was pushed back to be the convention theme instead. Also production issue with the style lab.. I bet Jessy was upset about that thats why I'm not surprize that he did not post his convention dolls on his instagram page.. He received a lot of backlash from collectors about the convention theme and ibreally think it was never his plan . thats why he did not post his convention dolls on his insta. Another note.. We had poppy style lab (fashion week convention ). and Fashion royalty style lab ( legendary convention ). so its just obvious that the next style lab is nuface. But it appears no.. We had another poppy instead
I agree with what was said about the Dominique doll. I didn’t get a ticket this year and it was pretty much the only doll that I knew for sure I was going to get. I felt like I wasted my money. I’m big in restyling using different pieces IT provides. so we I get a whole doll with everything is totally useless in my opinion I feel hosed 🤣🤣 even though I wasn’t a fan I didn’t make a big stink about her. But I was disappointed. I agree with you all.. use your daring moment on a different event bc we weren’t too excited for this one lol. I will admit that some people have totally elevated her look. I enjoyed the video keep them coming..
Wow chic review congratulations on the purchase of Poppy Parker dolls my favorite collections they are chic beautiful. You are the best collectorsVanessa Perine she is the most beautiful gorgeous doll
Another great review vid! I agree on a lot of your opinions. I have so much to say, I won’t bore anyone with my opinions, but I thank you for yours! French is hard for us anglophones to say, but “homme” is pronounced like “home” without the H sound. Max is saying it like it rhymes with “mom” 😂 With so many Hommes coming up this year, you gotta say it right! Also, I love the framed art behind you guys! Got lost in it a few times!
Thank you! And - like home? With an ohh-sound? 🤔 I thought it’s more similar to hum than home haha but it’s possible I mispronounced in the moment - it was a lot of filming! 😅 The art behind us is Eyvind Earle - it’s lovely isn’t it? 😄 Thanks for watching! -Max
36:02 I noticed also that the high heeled feet don't properly fit the platforms. Your mind will be blown; believe it or not, the flat feet are a better fit for the pink platforms (Pink Vamp), blue platforms (Accessory A) and gold platform Mary Janes (French Disco). Gasp! I know right! First time, I went to reach for my flat feet - Hahaha! 🤣
Sorry to bother you but you made a mistake on the Dominique dolls montage, for the 2018 Counter-Culture collection, you put Annick's picture ... For some characters I try to have only one doll and I already had My Essence that I love ... so I really didn't need AR and unlike the year before I kept Ayumi's outfit, I really didn't like Dominique's, I tend to hate fluo colours ... but I got lucky and was able to sell her without loosing too much money ... On the contrary, I love Rayna's look and pre ordered her ... Regarding Elyse, I loved everything about her and was crushed when I saw how she was in hand, so I sold her nude and kept all the rest ... the pink dress is quite cute, even if it isn't perfect ... love all the accessories ...
Ack, you’re right - thank you for the correction, & sorry about that! AR Dom is beautiful in her own right for sure. I think the fashion choice in particular just polarized a lot of folks. It’s really a bummer what happened to Elyse. Not sure if it was a manufacturing error or what. It definitely seems like something went wrong, none of the dolls we’ve seen photographed by collectors match the promos. Thanks for watching & sharing your thoughts! 💕 -Max
As a black person and a black collector what I really noticed about the tone of comments the forum and instagram took with Dominique is that her lack of any sort of eurocentric beauty standards is what REALLY pushed certain people over the edge. When you look at even the comments for this year's upgrades there were tons of people lamenting about there not being 'any pretty pale dolls' and that was with them using some of the most popular sculpts and dressing them pretty typical for their personalities/style. With Dominique a very nasty side of collectors came out that I truly don't think would have surfaced if she, say, came with a long high ponytail instead or was a shade or two lighter or had a 'sweeter' face. The boldness of the make-up is something that was loved on Poppy Parker and the sporty/sleek looks have been popular on other dolls before so why would it be different otherwise? Since then she's been getting a little more acceptance and appreciation but the disgust people spewed in her direction felt not just pointed but veiled. All the girls were sporty for NuFace - and why not? Do young models not like sports? Are sports somehow unfeminine or not something that can be fashion? - but Dominiques comments were on a different level and I won't soon forget it. ironically enough Mugler just released an image very much in keeping with Dominique's vibe - instagram.com/p/CdWHVqFN73i/ so clearly Jessy was on the right track with her IMO. NuFace in general is about the bold bravado of youth and while I would definitely edit a few things here or there with their showing I appreciate the continued commitment to that. As far as the rest - I really waffled on how much I like Vanessa but definitely would keep one of my own if I could, the Elyse was just 'ok' to me with lovely accessories, and all things Poppy were well done. If I was there for an in person con experience I would've definitely walked away with something from style lab but without that atmosphere in the air I think they were all easier to resist LOL! I definitely hope the boys are back for style labs in general because we've been sorely lacking them in general so bring them back integrity!! As an outsider yet again for the online con it overall felt like a very experimental year and while there were some definite things favored more over others I still can applaud them swinging for the fences.
In general I think there’s a big issue with diverse / unique dolls steering communities into problematic conversations that parallel real-world topics of race, gender identity / expression or beyond. If a doll doesn’t suit someone’s personal tastes, that’s of course perfectly fine and they can voice their opinion in the “quietest” but most effective way with their dollar. The (reasonable) issue I think with this bold, thematic Dominique is that collectors didn’t have the option to skip purchase because they committed to essentially a blind box-modeled event. Which is sure to yield the most polarizing results, should the company decide to take bigger risks with their designs. Personally I think Dominique is beautiful on her own, I think the flocked hair is very cute, and I love to see skin tone variety (we don’t see enough Nubian dolls at convention)! And I’ve seen some seriously stunning photoshoots, restyles and redressing of her. The issue for me was really with the heavily thematic, very sporty, neon-colored fashions and accessories (+ dramatic makeup) that did not clearly fit the con’s theme, on top of the fact that there was already an excess of dolls dressed in this very unexpected sports theme. As you well know (lol!) I definitely have a personal bias when it comes to sportswear on dolls - be they male or female. This is in part because, aside from just not digging the overall aesthetic, athletic wear by its nature leans simpler in design because it’s designed for comfort and functionality, not stylishness (usually). There’s less fabric, less detail and less bang for your buck (to me). I generally can’t get excited over beachwear dolls for similar reasons (but I’m also a guy who obsesses over more luxe looks, so there’s that too 😂). I do support sporty dolls *existing* - I just don’t think they fall into the category of universally popular doll themes, so they probably shouldn’t make the cut for (expensive!) repeated convention themes or blind box-style releases from a brand like IT. If they do…tell us beforehand please, IT (“this con’s theme: ‘Athleisure on the Runway” lol)! Now one thing I’d hope we could ALL agree on is that negative doll commentary based on real world tired stereotypes, racism and/or gender biases…miss me with that. No one had any right to steer the conversation in that direction, it’s just gross. And side note yes I totally see Dom in that Mugler image!! Lol. I think it would be super fun to see that look in full irl. I think I’d appreciate it more than in doll form. 😆 All in all, I will still always support IT in continued efforts to take chances and fun new risks - sometimes it really pays off! I hope in person events return eventually. And yes…more boys are a MUST!!! 😤 Thanks for watching and the thoughtful commentary buddy! ❤️ -Max
Hello im very new to the club, do you f33l there are a good amount of black dolls offered. I really only collect black dolls, do you happen to know if they just s3ll the outfits that dont come on the dolls you prefer. Thanks for any insite
Loved the video. On Dominique, I was disappointed. I didn't make a fuss, but did get rid of her at a loss. I liked nothing about her and it sucked. I wish they should have at least made her a replica of the nubian Annik that had curly hair. As the only thing I had access to it was very disappointing.
I was also disappointed. Frustrated that I had to pay to shipping for something I was not interested in. Had she been cheaper, I might have let IT keep her. I do realize that is the risk we take with convention dolls though.
@@stefanieizumizaki2191 yes! I totally agree. To have to pay shipping and import fees in my case since I'm in Mexico. That is why I sold her at a loss, since she was not worth all the extra money to get her to me. Very sour taste. I agree it was a risk, that is why I just quietly got rid of her and didn't voice my complaints. Since the last few years when I did voice my disappointment I got very bad backlash even though my complaints were respectful.
Do you think Poppy Parker needs a mature version ??? Does she need a thin face , high cheek bones, a narrow forehead ??? I want old rounder sculpt they used until few years ago. new poppys are like completly different dolls than old poppys
Last 2 conventions have been "polarizing." Looks like the dolls are looking cheaper and more plain yet the prices are higher than justified by inflation. My poor style lab Poppy I was so excited about her. Mine looks even rougher than yours. I usually like Jessi's designs. Hugs
Not a fan of Elyse Jolie in that skin tone 🤷♀️ her facial features are smaller and completely disappear on darker skin. Everything kinda blends together. Ginger is gorgeous 😍👍

All the girls are very pretty. The clothes and shoes are always amazing. How they make those tiny things.
It’s pretty wild what IT can do with all these tiny details! Thanks for watching! -Max

I think if you get to scale motorbike and pose her with it , her look and fashion would really go well just my opinion anyway.
Thanks for the video ❤
