I added the Clifford Performance dual header to my 65 i6 Mustang. I can't say what if any HP/torque increases there were but it sure did sound better. A short time later I added the Australian (ozzy) head. That head, a few tweeks to the valves, and an Isky cam provided a noticable boost to HP/torque. Hope to see some more videos as time allows.
I added the header to my 65 mustang and used the gasket that came with it. That was three years ago and I have had no problems with loose bolts or exhaust leaks. I would recommend a heat blanket of some sort for the starter. The header is close enough to cause heat soak to the starter causing it to fail after about a year. I wrapped my new starter with the fiberglass header wrap and so far so good. Nice job on the video.
Great work...I have the same set up in my 65. Thanks for all the part numbers etc.
I’m a little late to the game here. Great video! And very helpful for my project
Thanks for this segment dude, helped me get a better idea of what I am getting into while contemplating a stock manifold to header swap on my 68’ Falcon. Subscribed!
If I’m not mistaken the inline 6 with 3 freeze plugs is a 170 ci. And the 200 ci has5.
Thanks a lot! Very cool video and a great help!
Great vid! I’ve toyed with the idea of putting headers on our 65 six!
good video man, and thanks for sharing part numbers, and difficulties etc
Nice job young man. Now look for a head off a 1980 Granada 250 inline 6. Larger valves, larger log type intake manifold. I had mine machined for a Autolite 2 barrel too. Man the power difference.
Yeah i got that on my to do list thanks for the tip
As always, great video for us DIYers. Can’t wait to see how you run the exhaust and see/hear it when you are done. I planned on keeping my 67 stock, but now you’ve got me thinking... :-). Keep up the great work!
Thanks glad others enjoying it I’m hoping have the exhaust done this weekend
Good job Sir !
This is cool man. I was thinking of doing this with my 64 comet.
I like a lot your job.... I dont know how many HP you add to the engine but the sound is Awesome....!!
Great video! I was thinking of doing the same to my 65. I was talked out of doing it (for compression issues) I shouldn't have listened. Instead went with the Scot Drake single chrome header. Keep up the videos and thank you
I’ll be finish with the exhaust this weekend so after I put some miles on it I’ll post my opinion but I think it should be fine and definitely would recommend getting headers
I have the Scott Drake dual outlets for my inline 6 too. How did installation go? Did u run into any problems with the starter hitting them? I've had no luck locating a mini starter.
Nope got plenty of clearance from the starter
@@bayareakat66 No problem with the starter same problem as AutoRay with the linkage blockage. BUT i only used the single exhaust outlet Scott Drake
@@seanotoole8029 i went with the scott drake single outlet and i am struggling as well did the install but the problem i have now is the throttle linkage now sits on top of the headers, as a result is causing my engine to rev all the time can someone please assist me with this problem.
I installed my 200 six eBay header without a gasket. I used orange high temp silicone. The header bolts don't seam to loosen when there is no gasket. The bolts stay tight. I have zero exhaust leaks.
I have a Clifford Performance 200 sitting in my shed. That engine has a port divider installed in the head for the #3 port. Stock 3&4 is just one large combined port. Wondering now if those dividers are necessary since you or anyone in comments didn't mention them.
I got my divider and should get my headers today. Suppose to add sound and HP to the 3/4 being equally split
Umm yeah it’s better to put that in exactly where you said 3 &4 it makes the flow better with the headers if you look at the original manifold you’ll see 3&4 are one big port
I had Clifford headers on mine too
Dang that sounds like my engine that thing disappeared mysteriously 😮😂
I'm going to go buy my 1966 in a week!
that awesome good luck on your build
Nice video, you are a great man
I appreciate that a lot
check with vintage inlines all they do is parts for inline motors
Hey great video and thank you for sharing the part numbers. If you've got the time to answer a quick question. I'm doing the exact same setup on my 67 mustang 200 inline 6 cylinder. I want to buy the universal exhaust kit on Amazon, but I don't know if I should buy the 3 inch or what you have, which is 2 or 2.5 inch pipes. Also does it matter the size of the exhaust pipes when it comes to fitting the 40 series flowmasters?
Thank you 👍
Jeff C.
Bro love your videos , doing this to my 66 but using flowmaster 10s instead of 44 and I’ll let you kno how it sounds.
I did this same modification to my 67 6 inline 1bbl carb but I put an Sig Ersiin mid range cam and had rebuilt the whole engine bored .020 over Man I got to tell ya this thing sounded just like a V-8 I also had a 4spd top loader tranny and it ran well but the only drawback was you couldn’t really improve the carburetor because the intake manifold was integral with the head that was my only disappointment
*Did anyone have to deal with that adapter this fits in the head between the 3 rd and 4th cyl make sure to put it in and weld it the car will breath better if you don’t weld it in place it’s going to rattle
Great job. I just wanted to ask, we're all those bolts the same length? My header needed 2 longer bolts to install it. In the OEM manifold bolt kit, it came with the 2 longer bolts as well, so I ended going with the original ramp lock bolts
I have been thinking about doing this upgrade to my 67 Stang with an inline 6. it will have to be after I get my Holley Sniper Autolite 1100 EFI upgrade complete. Sadly that is still on backorder. I have heard these headers get in the way if you have AC. I also hope to add AC to my car at some point. Good work sir.
I don’t know about aftermarket AC unit but I seen these headers on cars with factory AC. I plan to go Holley EFI in a year or so i don’t know if I’ll add AC yet
I moved my alternator to the driver side . To get it away from the heat. I found your video bc I'm thinking of going with one of these cheap headers . Wish I could show u a pic of the set up I have now with the alternator moved . . Chevy did the same thing by putting it by the hottest part of the motor 🤦🏾
You think with all that room in the engine bay they would have put it on the opposite side away from all extra heat
@@autoraysgarage8938 exactly! Almost makes me think it was for a hidden reason ... 🤔 I mean put anything around high heat Long enough it won't last long compared to less heat . Maybe engineers just wasn't on point that day idk lol
@@pipelinecowboy I've always wondered what Ford engineers put in their Kool-Aid.
Hello, about the header locking fasteners. They are all 1 inch? The headers / manifold for the 170 / 200 inline 6 cylinder motor takes 2 longer bolts. I'm looking at my exhaust manifold on my 67 200 inline 6 cylinder motor right now and it definitely need the 2 longer bolts. How did you install the headers with all short bolts?
Thank you
That muffler shop said it would cost almost a grand !! That 2015 camaro is more of a pain to put exhaust under than a 50 year old car all day !
Yeah the shop definitely didn’t want to do that job I’m sure if I shopped around more I could maybe found a shop who would have done it
@@autoraysgarage8938 absolutely but we live and learn to over come ! 🤘🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Well wouldn’t have to bend it if u had the original throttle Linkage parts
Well hopefully next 50+ year old car I buy have original parts
Hello, what size exhaust pipe did you end up going with? The headers have a 2 inch outlet. What size 40 series flow masters did you buy? I really need this info. If you could let me know, just post a reply I guess. Hopefully you get this comment.
I would really appreciate any help / hints you can give me, as I'm doing the exact same thing as you right now.
Thank you
Jeff C.
where did you move your starter to?
Sad thing is, from my experience, once you install headers, in order to remove your starter, you have to completely remove the headers at the manifold first. Bummer!
You have part number on the headers. The link appears to be broken
Anybody know a website I can still order headers for that price I need them to be able to attach to flow master american thunder dual outlet "H" pipe
Planning on doing this exact project this weekend, do you think it was necessary to remove the starter?
Can I use my stock manifold on my straight 6?
I have a 64.5 and I’m just trying to learn lol
Me to I’m learning as I go so enjoy the videos
Hi there. Great videos. Do you have the header part number? And any updates in the custom exhaust work
www.ebay.com/itm/153373858273
i finish the exhaust last weekend i just need to edit the footage so i should have the video up this weekend
Hey Ray where can I get those headers on Amazon ?
What is the part number for the headers it doesn't come out anymore? Please.
If you search “ford inline 6 200 headers” on eBay it will pop up
Did is all you can do to fix the throttle issue? I’m in the process of dual headers but I have the rod and I want to clear it as well
I bent the throttle arm just slightly giving it an arched so it will clear the headers and still function properly
@@autoraysgarage8938 and the spring? I’m just trying to knock out all the details before the actual headers get here. Mine is non-AC too but I want dual headers
@@chrismejia5235 the spring will be fine don’t need to do anything to it
@@autoraysgarage8938 how did you hook it up? Lip is lower now so it can’t connect
What's the name of the welder you bought for this project and where did you buy it? I might as well do it myself as well too for my 65 Mustang. I want to use the Outlaw mufflers.
It’s from harbor freight flux core 125 welder
@@autoraysgarage8938 Thanks! Did you find it easy to pickup and work with? Would you recommend it for my diy exhaust work too?
Yeah I never welded before so just practice with some extra piping and adjusted the setting to what works best and I was good to go
I have a 64 1/2 would everything be pretty much the same?
pretty much the same but if your 64 1/2 still has the original inline 6 then it is a 170 not a 200 like mines so double check the parts i post to make sure they fit the 170 motor
@@autoraysgarage8938 thank you!!
How about a 65
What's the part number for the mufflers
Flowmaster 43041
@@autoraysgarage8938 thank you for the fast response how about the item number for the exhaust tubing kit
Can you link the alternator bracket please?
www.ebay.com/itm/114732058898
@@autoraysgarage8938 Thank you! Do the headers have the port for the auto choke tube?
No the eBay headers do not
@@autoraysgarage8938 Thanks for the response. I figured they wouldn’t. I’ve still ordered and plan on installing them. Just wondering if the tube is necessary or not.
Did you use those washers for the bolts on the headers
Yeah after I did a test run I installed the locks on the header bolts
