Is there a trick on how you bend your tape measure into a corner to measure crown and get accurate lengths and are able to cut once without having to trim the boards?
I just push the tape in hard. I go through about a tape a month cause I’m pretty rough on them. Another way would be measure an inch from the corner and make a mark, then measure from the other direction to your mark and add an inch. I’ve been doing this as a career for so long, like 16 years, so I’m pretty good at measuring, writing it down and cutting it right. But even if I mess up, which I do sometimes, you aren’t gonna see it on camera 😉 edit that terrible cut out lol
Nope. Just wood glue and super tight joints. Nothing against putty or bondo before sanding though, just made sure it was tiiiiight for the camera 😂 But I prefer regular bondo for bad joints on mdf.
Hey I want to ask you the Crown moldi that you used what place did you get it from like home ? Depot lowe's and how many feet is the each 8 pieces that you had. And is it wood or pvc because i've seen it kind of flexing.
It’s a 5 inch cove crown 16ft long made of MDF. We get it at a local lumberyard called Henley Supply. Lowe’s and Home Depot down usually carry this kind of crown. Check lumberyards. Maybe there’s an 84 Lumber near you.
@TMPK It actually is 84 lumber like fifteen minutes from me. When I actually called, they didn't know too much what I was looking for. I'm going today to show them the video maybe that will help. And thanks so much for getting back to me 👍🏾
I have an odd double L with alcove ceiling. I wish I knew how to layout. I built a template out of cardboard. The off shoots of the ceiling would end up with squares not the same dimensions as the main squares. Hard. Mr. Turner I need superman or Merlin for the layout help! Lol Also, the ends of the ribs at the wall, sometimes they just point into the wall at the end of the rib. Sometimes the room has ribs all around the ceiling where the ceiling meets the wall. This outer frame can see full width frame and sometimes that is half width. PS. Why do my tape measure cuts don’t turn out like yours lol. I can be plus or minus 1/8”Well, sometimes even more ((embarrassed))
I think the outside corners just look better 45ed and the inside are easier to get flush and nail if they’re square. I’ve done it both ways and I guess it’s fine either way 🤷♂️

@@TMPK haha nice thanks for the reply man! Love your videos !
If I missed or may be a stupid question. Did you used mdf joint compound before sanding?
Nope. Just wood glue and super tight joints. Nothing against putty or bondo before sanding though, just made sure it was tiiiiight for the camera 😂
But I prefer regular bondo for bad joints on mdf.
Will this work on an 8 foot ceiling?
Lol
Also, the ends of the ribs at the wall, sometimes they just point into the wall at the end of the rib.
Is there a reason why you 45 the outside corners and not inside ones? On the center box. Just curious🛠🇺🇸🛠
I think the outside corners just look better 45ed and the inside are easier to get flush and nail if they’re square. I’ve done it both ways and I guess it’s fine either way 🤷♂️
Amazing! Do you remember the size of this room in square footage?
@@Caro_bh probably around 180
@@TMPK thank you!!
Trying to use low cost materials for cofferd ceiling to make it more affordable, any thoughts on using white foam beam coffered ceiling? Is it effective and actually cheaper as well?
Unfortunately I don’t know anything about foam beams, but with a little research they seem pretty expensive. 😳
@@TMPK you're are giving us the confidence to do this on our own as well, literally on us *OWN* Thank You 🙏🏻 (are you by any chance in Ontario, Canada just in case we mess up 😅)
Fully finished with paint for 12 in and 8ft long is about 126$, according to them it will be cut to exact measurements and all I have to do is glue and stick it on the ceiling
@@KURUPT_KANATA that sounds like a pretty good deal! Where’s that company and what kind of beams?
@@TMPK the company is called mouldex moulding. The got some youtube videos. With these you might not need the tape measure ever again 😁
What type of material is the trim ?
It’s all mdf. “Medium density fiberboard”
1x6 mdf
1x8 mdf
5 1/4 cove mdf crown
Is the finished boards MDF
Yes. Primed MDF
Nice.... nail overkill ya think...
How many points did you score? Awesome trimwork and video work
Haha yeah a ton of nails! I didn’t keep score but it had to be at least 20 something points lol 😂
Hey man just wanted to say love your videos.
Just had a question. During the finishing process do you caulk the edges/joints before painting Thanks!
Thanks! Personally I don’t caulk anything. But yes, the painters come in after me and do all the caulking and filling nail holes.
This is the type of coffering I’m doing on my 6 by7 foot ceiling above my stairs. YAY
😅 above the stairs sounds like a challenge! Make good decisions with ladders and/ or scaffolding!
Ok funny part : “ Not that hard you can do it”. Oh man I would love to see a DIY’er do that! Now not getting ahead of myself here some good at a vision and hv mastery over a tape measure and understanding crown ok? But the guy who say is a ? Whatever and just bought a miter saw?
Heck I been a finish contractor 14 yrs and I just discovered the miter saw lays over?
Amazing skills you got there and i am very grateful for all your efforts you putting in but one question though how much do you charge for this particular job ? You can answer back if you feel like it otherwise i will still be your fan of your skills regardless.
Thanks! Well, I only charge for labor. The material is on the job site when I arrive, and painters take care of everything else after I leave. But for my labor, this coffered ceiling can go anywhere from $500 to $1500 depending on ceiling height and room size
where do you get the mask?
Amazon
Why did you recommend 21 degree nailer not other like 28, 30 or 34?
Not really recommending it, it’s just the one I bought. I didn’t do any research, I just bought a framing gun cause I needed one. Use whatever kind you want 🤷♂️
@@TMPK I’m doing my coffered this week. I had to buy a framing nailer. Angle choices of nailer at hardware stores were making me confused. Thanks for your quick response.
@@asimmahmood397 no problem! Add some screws after nailing to make sure it’s up there forever
What is the name of the application that you are working with?
Which application?
Guy! So Good🤙
😎 thanks!
The flat is nice but in love with the squared coiffered ceiling. Maybe it’s the other ceiling the squares or I call them Tik tak toe lol🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻
Still trying to figure out if this guy is a better carpenter or video editor
Or rapper 🤔 😆 just kidding, rapper is at least 3rd lol
@@TMPK I was waiting for you to start rapping actually. Request next time you snap a chalk line can you make it blow up in a blazing inferno that would be fire or lit 😅😉
@@judahryan haha I’ll try to remember that for next time. I didn’t rap this time cause on the barn door I got a copyright flag on that song because apparently when I purchased the royalty free music I didn’t purchase the right to own it. Still confused about that 🤷♂️
BOTH!! It’s art.
@@blueberrymum thanks!
who sings the last song?
I’m not sure which one is the last but they’re all written in the description.
I’ve done 4 coffered ceiling’s, and I can NEVER get cats to show up in the centerpiece. I’m such a failure!!!
If you build it they will come! Just takes time my friend😂
love the videos keep it up! how long did it take for you to make the coffered ceiling ?
About 6 hours with the camera on 🥴
I’ve gotten that coffered ceiling down to about 3 hours to 3 1/2 without moving the camera 1000 times
