Taking off the lab coat for experiments with the Pittsburgh Modular Voltage Lab2.. putting bleeps and bloops to one side and headed for muy fuerte banging electronica.
the voltage lab2 is 'officially' the top half, the lower section is the touch controller 2 - which is a sequencer with a few tricks up its sleeve. Just 16 steps but so many ways to manipulate and modulate you can go well deep! (that's as deep as a well)
walkthrough and explanation coming soon.

0:00 Ring Mod for the win
2:13 Same track but clevererer
3:06 Bit of a BANGER
5:59 OK some bleeps
7:44 Track 1 naked - raw wav
10:00 Track 3 bare bones - raw wav
In a world of behringer clones, this is refreshing
My favorite demo of this instrument so far! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
GREAT demo!
Great demo! And I love the drum sounds in "bit of a banger" - where did they come from?
I like the layout, I like the 3 sequencers, but the sound doesn't grab me, needs a few pedals for sure.
I'd get a little pissed off with the cables obscuring my sequencers. I'd get PTSD from wire management and throw them out the window.
Great vid Starsk, cheers.
Birds nest keeps me at a distance from modular 😂
Yeah this thing really needs low-profile cables of some sort.
Short or right angle ones may help some.
TBH, I start with Nazca's shortest cables and work my way up from there. I like keeping clutter to a minimum.
@@edmc2 Yep Finally have my studio nice and tidy and easy access to everything.
All those dam modular spaghetti cables! I just can't do it man..🤣
Cool stuff Starsky!
that's bad ass Mr Starsky. I'm selling some stuff to get that.
Bet you creamed your pants when that arrived in the post. Lovely work on the patches. Can't wait for the full review
4:04 oh snap Starsky got a camera slider!
Starsky’s been using one for about 5 years 😂
killer
So is the top part basically a Taiga, or something new?
It’s got some similarities but it’s new. The oscillators are unique - one has a warp and the other reflection functions. You have the function generators like the taiga and 2 LPG rather than a single LPG and a filter. Theres also an additional flanger/chorus… but if you’ve used the taiga you’ll find this feels familiar from a UI perspective
Would you talk a newbie out of buying this?
That depends if you want to make music or just fuck around 😂
It depends on how much of a newbie you are. If completely green then this would be a steep learning curve, but if you're a quick learner or like experimenting nothing is that difficult. You can go as simple or as creative as you like. I'll make some simple patches when I reared my demo so you can see for yourself.
Not a fan of where the patch points are but looks cool and sounds ok. Love the tracks
can't understand people complaints about the patchpoints. what's wrong with them? looks like the best placement possible to avoid the spaghetti
Looks beautiful, love the form factor and reasonable price but honestly it does sounds pretty average to me compared to something like a Make Noise Shared System. Even the mighty Hainbach struggled to get anything remotely interesting out of this one beyond thin buzzy timbres that somehow never quite sound in tune. Just my humble opinion of course and subject to change as more diverse demos appear
the MN's discontinued SS is a MUCH larger, much more expensive, fully modular system. this one competes in a league or two below. also, imo, Hainbach did manage to make it sound nice enough. but having said that, I think you're right, and the Labs' raw sound might lack something. but wait for more demos, and appreciate the interface - the controller part is done great, and it means a lot with (semi-)modulars
Big night for new type synths … this and the moog
Yeah… could be a big few days tbh!
@@StarskyCarr 🤔🤔🤔
Polybrute 12, murmux.. tracker 2, etc.. many new stuffs.. I'm liking this though . Not sure I can wait for a used one.. I hate to overpay..
@@wurlinnawurl absolutely 💯👌
not really sold on the sound of the Pittsburg modular synths I've heard so far.
moog spectravox and labyrinth are top of my list.
