@@biggrime I have the Taiga - VL2 just sounds much the same but no USB midi so Cubase can't see it to send or receive midi - not even a clock so it will not integrate into my studio. It's basically a stand alone instrument. If you're happy with that go for it.
I like the layout, I like the 3 sequencers, but the sound doesn't grab me, needs a few pedals for sure. I'd get a little pissed off with the cables obscuring my sequencers. I'd get PTSD from wire management and throw them out the window. Great vid Starsk, cheers.
Great demo! May i ask - how did you record / arrange? Did you already have a song progression mapped out and you played along or other way round - live recording then added drums !?!?
I generally build a patch and play around with it while adding patches or changing tones etc to find some sweet spots. Then for these demos I’ll try to stitch a few of those sweet spots together, then a few more to keep constant little tricks in the demo. I then normally build from simple to complex. Practise a few times then record, adding the beat later. I may have found the beat already and play along, then arrange some fills etc.
It’s got some similarities but it’s new. The oscillators are unique - one has a warp and the other reflection functions. You have the function generators like the taiga and 2 LPG rather than a single LPG and a filter. Theres also an additional flanger/chorus… but if you’ve used the taiga you’ll find this feels familiar from a UI perspective
Looks beautiful, love the form factor and reasonable price but honestly it does sounds pretty average to me compared to something like a Make Noise Shared System. Even the mighty Hainbach struggled to get anything remotely interesting out of this one beyond thin buzzy timbres that somehow never quite sound in tune. Just my humble opinion of course and subject to change as more diverse demos appear
the MN's discontinued SS is a MUCH larger, much more expensive, fully modular system. this one competes in a league or two below. also, imo, Hainbach did manage to make it sound nice enough. but having said that, I think you're right, and the Labs' raw sound might lack something. but wait for more demos, and appreciate the interface - the controller part is done great, and it means a lot with (semi-)modulars
@@yurijogurtsov8710 Make Noise 0-coast, Strega and 0-ctrl combo would be an comparable instrument, maybe? I've always been very hesitant to jump into modular but these complete systems are quite tempting. Btw, Do you know of any good eurorack solutions for multitrack modulation recording, that would work kind of like recording live automation in a DAW for 8-16 bars or more? I've seen things like this in VCV but I'm almost entirely unfamiliar with the hardware modular world.
It depends on how much of a newbie you are. If completely green then this would be a steep learning curve, but if you're a quick learner or like experimenting nothing is that difficult. You can go as simple or as creative as you like. I'll make some simple patches when I reared my demo so you can see for yourself.
What a great demo - I've listened to it a few times now! My VL2 is coming next week!
How u like so far?
@@biggrime haha sent it back
@@awpMusic1 nooo what happened? I got the Taiga. Really been thinking about getting this

My favorite demo of this instrument so far! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
In a world of behringer clones, this is refreshing

Birds nest keeps me at a distance from modular 😂
Yeah this thing really needs low-profile cables of some sort.
Short or right angle ones may help some.
TBH, I start with Nazca's shortest cables and work my way up from there. I like keeping clutter to a minimum.
@@edmc2 Yep Finally have my studio nice and tidy and easy access to everything.
All those dam modular spaghetti cables! I just can't do it man..🤣
GREAT demo!
HEAVY sound! On my list

@StarskyCarr many thanks for detailed answer. Long story short - a decent effort behind the scenes!
Still thinking about getting one, but the Taiga hasn't worn out its welcome yet
Great demo! And I love the drum sounds in "bit of a banger" - where did they come from?
I can't watch gear demos unless the synthesist has an ear for musicality. And you've got that, in spades.
Cool stuff Starsky!
4:04 oh snap Starsky got a camera slider!
Starsky’s been using one for about 5 years 😂
Bet you creamed your pants when that arrived in the post. Lovely work on the patches. Can't wait for the full review
Not a fan of where the patch points are but looks cool and sounds ok. Love the tracks
can't understand people complaints about the patchpoints. what's wrong with them? looks like the best placement possible to avoid the spaghetti
that's bad ass Mr Starsky. I'm selling some stuff to get that.
So is the top part basically a Taiga, or something new?

killer
not really sold on the sound of the Pittsburg modular synths I've heard so far.
moog spectravox and labyrinth are top of my list.
Big night for new type synths … this and the moog
Yeah… could be a big few days tbh!

Polybrute 12, murmux.. tracker 2, etc.. many new stuffs.. I'm liking this though . Not sure I can wait for a used one.. I hate to overpay..

Would you talk a newbie out of buying this?
That depends if you want to make music or just fuck around 😂

maybe the taiga or even west pest is a better starting point.
