She was my "soul sister"...we spent some quality time together some 6 months before she left us for good....just chattind and reminiscing about the old times (we were the same age) and about all the good stuff that came along at the time when Jazz was king. NO ONE DOES BALLAD SINGING BETTER THAT THIS LADY!!!!!....NO ONE!!!!!!
I envy you Sir. I am Rahn Coleman I can be found on Wickipedia. If I had EVER MET OR BEEN AROUND HER. . . at any point in my life. . .I probably would have never left her side. She is the most beautiful musical message ever.
I love Shirley Horn....why have I waited all my life to hear her...I listened to all the jazz greats: Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughan and missed Shirley Horn...I'm so happy to have discovered her.
Juanita, you're not alone -- I'm a musician and I did not hear Shirley until much later in my life -- she's gone, sadly, but her music lives on in our hearts and minds! I will, thanks to those who upload these lovely songs, continue to listen to her for the rest of my life. I'll make up for what I missed earlier. She soothes my soul.
You ask YOUR self "why?" I was a musician my whole life, (first classical piano then later instruments, both pop and classical and vocal) and I did NOT know about the fabulous Shirley Horn until the last several years, and I'm OLD! I like a number of vocal artists, about 5 very top singers that I really admire and like, and now, Shirley is right up there with them at the top, and her talent exceeds most of them because she is both a great jazz pianist and vocalist. Brava, Shirley and thank you for what you gave us!

I hope life could be kinder to her towards the end, as she deserved. Such talent, a brief passing angel, lived just long enough to show us all what love and tenderness are all about !! RIP.
I also knew Shirley Horn late, through her 1991 top jazz album You Won't Forget Me, then the next year Here's to Life. Blown away, and had been collecting her cds. Love her phrasing, so emotive. Best piano playing singer.
It doesn't get any better than this. This is one of my favorite songs and it has been covered by many wonderful people. Patti LaBelle's knocks it out of the park with this song. And of course Miss Edith Piaf. Even the Valentines with their doo-wop sound of this song is amazing This version is just amazing!
Majestic grace and artistry. Shirley Horn; I was blessed to hear you live at the Village Vanguard one night. Your beauty and majestic wonder was a gift to all of us that night. Pure harmonics and such a regal woman. Victory to both my soul and spirit.
As a lover of beautiful vocals I'm a wee sad that I hadn't been that familiar with Ms Shirley until recently. I don't know how I missed it but now I'm here. And blessed.
never say people are gone. that is what memory is for and about. we all leave that. there are some whose memory is a shooting star that goes on forever. that is what ms. horn has become and so she is and always will be with us.
I am officially going to fuss at all of my old fam & friends... HOW ON EARTH, am I JUST hearing her smooth as silk, gentle soulful voice IN 2019 & I LOVE jazz music?!?!? Wow just WOW!!!!!!! New STAN!!!!💯❤❤❤❤
Thank you, Shirley is my absolute favorite singer and I've heard most of them. She was also a perfect pianist for her style - nobody could do a better job accompanying her and most would just spoil it.
Sheer perfection. Music of this magnitude and quality is scarce to non existing during this day. Shirley encompasses class, quality and unmatched brilliance. Time and time again, she has reiterated her relevance in the jazz world.
So correct, never in the world can you hear something out of today's musical field like this -- unless maybe it's a classical number, but NOT ballads like this, they just don't write like this anymore, and certainly no one today sings like the very talented Shirley Horn!
I absolutely love Shirley Horn’s rendition of this song...it made me cry thinking of my ex-husband leaving...ten years ago when I first heard it...now I’m over him....today, these are tears of joy.
I feel the same as well. I still think about my ex-husband occasionally and never understood why he abandon me and my daughter, but it wasn't meant to be. All is forgiven and I realized that it was a life lesson and if I ever get married again, it will be so much better because I'm much wiser now. I hope you found true Love.
What a beautiful and fabulous voice; and what amazing feeling of such beautiful words. What ever happened to love like this? Thank you Shirley, for reminding us of what it really could be like. May heaven be enjoying your every word.
Shirley Horn - No One - NO ONE - Can so incontrovertibly make Every Time grace the ear as though it were the First Time - The Very First Time. Mint a Coin - A Stamp - A Statue in her honor - She is warmth and musical abundance - John Winter
What a heartfelt rendition, and I’ve heard many.

Muchas gracias por tus palabras, sí! Es wonderful
👍💯💕
She was the best the best the best
The very definition of sophistication. This is what you get when a culture values class.
Listening to this on a gloomy Sunday evening in Florida. Tears, tears, tears. Such a tender and moving rendition.😭😭😭
I love Shirley Horn....why have I waited all my life to hear her...I listened to all the jazz greats: Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughan and missed Shirley Horn...I'm so happy to have discovered her.
Me too! I'm not sure why I never heard her before, but I'm making up for it now.

US TOO! She was mostly an East-Coaster, and the world. I think we got cheated out here on the west coast! But NOW we are truly loving Shirley Horn!

You and me both! I don't know why I didn't know of her earlier than I did, but I'm making up for it now, she's just fabulous!
Why am I crying? For me? Because of her? This is so powerful. Thank everyone. Thank the universe. Thank GOD!
Me to and don't know why

Shirley Horn 😊❤
It was midnight and she shared eternity with my simple and lonely soul.. thank God for her existence
The reason there are hardly any comments is because we're all speechless.
She stops time when she sings
yep
@@pawdaw That's for sure!
You should live forever speechless or not,, Thank you for a wonderful comment!
Seriously one of the greatest. Lucky to see her at the Vanguard. Just magic.
A unique artist that didn't want to go on the road. She preferred to stay in Washington, D.C. and raise her child and have a family life. I love her.
May all your storms be weathered, and all that’s good get better 🤎🖤🤎🖤
Her voice goes deep inside me. I feel every note. The phrasing. The entire interpretation.
I hope life could be kinder to her towards the end, as she deserved. Such talent, a brief passing angel, lived just long enough to show us all what love and tenderness are all about !! RIP.
So Beautiful , it brought tear’s

So sincere. This is classical jazz. There are elements of Broadway and classical music in all her music.
Happy birthday Shirley. You left us with so much great music.

What a tight rope walk, playing with a full orchestra and trio. Captivating!
Thank you Wes Bowen from KUER radio many years ago for playing music by Shirley Horn. Both gone ,but her music and your words live on.
