Thank you so much. I was waiting for this video for a long time. But my two bands, where I want to know more about from a serious person, are Dolphin / Дельфин. At first, I had the impression, he / they are against Putin, but I saw, they played last September just in front of Kremlin. So I was really wondering. In every case, I don't understand well their Lyrics. Secondly I start to be a big fan of AIGEL / АИГЕЛ. She /they already played for Meduza, it seems, she's an environmental activist and they made their brutally sad song about the war "Gas", last November. I really like to know something more about them. but since the war, it's difficult for me to find interviews. btw, I'm so happy, that IC3PEAK will play in Georgia. I think, it's a great dedication also for you and all your friends, YT colleagues and good people from Russia in exile. Thank you for all your work and engagement.
finally I saw IC3PEAK last year in Paris, and as a sound technician, who mixed and saw more than 6000 bands in my life, it was one of the best concerts, I ever saw. 1h20 non-stop, amazing quality of sound and I had tears in my eyes after the intro, when the first song started.
Zack Thank you for all your hard work you put into this production, I appreciate it very much. I can't find the words to express how wrong this war is. Life is precious and the lost of human life is simply heartbreaking. I pray for peace and healing and a return to what was. God bless you and your people. Love from Texas USA
Thank you for your research efforts, dear Zack! Now I, as a German Russian (российский немец), know exactly to whose music I should continue to listen and to whose not. Btw, the group DDT (ДДТ) led by Yuri Shevchuk is also against the war.
Hi Zack. My whole life I've loved music. It's a wonderful form of expression. Although I feel it is unnatural for a musician to be apolitical, or to support war. I'm 65, and I know in my heart that war is evil, and wrong. I hate even talking about it. I enjoy the music you play during your streams. So Thanks! ✌️
Thank you, Zack, for your thorough work! I didn't know about Tatu and Nautilius's position. That's really upsetting, I liked their songs in my childhood. I know that B2 have recently performed in LA against the war.
Thank you for making this video! I listen to a lot of Russian, Belorussian, and Ukrainian music, and it's not always easy to tell who is against the war. I was surprised to see Пасош and Перемотка mentioned here. I didn’t think they were all that popular. You probably also know about the situation with the group Увула, but they are also against the war and were forced to leave Russia. The frontman Алексей Августовский was labeled an “opinion leader” by Роскомнадзор. I guess that means he was doing something right.
Boris Grebenschikov was more than just "pretty popular." He was as popular as Elvis and the Beatles and Vladimir Visotsky combined when I visited Leningrad in 1989. I went to his apartment building and the halls and stairways were 100% covered with graffiti expressing love for him.
Thanks for doing this. Just saw Molchat Doma here in USA last month. I too love slavic post punk, and you should check out the Belorussian band Stazhery (more like new sovietwave actually). They are my favorite that came out in 2021. What's some of your favorite bands?
About 2 years ago I started to listen to a lot of Soviet rock bands, it was really refreshing to hear music from a completely different culture / part of the world. Found a lot of great songs and bands, especially if you consider that being a rock band during the times of the Soviet Union was definitely not an easy task. Some of my favourite bands are KINO, Aquarium and Hugo-Ugo (Хуго-Уго).
Thanks a lot for the research Zack! I missed Alai Oli, Monetochka, Aigel, Grai and Otava Yo, but then - you can't possibly cover every russian band there is or was.
Oh my Zack you are looking crazy attractive and healthy today. Guess you are starting to get more peace of mind and better night rest. The stress was really showing just after the war when you just moved to georgia.
Another interesting one is Alika Milova, Estonian musician of Russian descent, who makes music in Estonian and English has spoken out heavily against the War, I don’t know if that counts or not.
Zack as always you give a lot of detailed information. This must be a difficult time for many Russian artists to decide how they want to represent their beliefs and values knowing they're watched. I've said it before I still think you'll be an excellent journalist...you already are actually.
Hi Zack. You presented a comprehensive list of musicians and interesting getting to know more about Russia and thier stance on the war. With regards to your looks, it is good to change things now and then. What is the white shirt you are wearing in the thumbnail an advert for? The mustache is better than the neckbeard in my humble opinion
About Serebro: The main person is actually the manager and producer Maxim Fadeev. The singers are often replaced, so the group is more a project or a company managed by Fadeev. And unfortunately he is Z. He has been a strong supporter of Putin, and he has filmed music videos in occupied Crimea. He is also blacklisted by the SBU.
Thank you for the video! I've been listening to Kino and many modern post-punk bands for many years, long before the war started. It's reassuring to know that many are against what's going on. Considering that one of Kino's songs was horrendously covered at the one-year anniversary concert in February (I think it was Gruppa Krovi), I wasn't sure about the band's position, so I guess the quote at 30:16 is true. What a shame, considering how contradictory it is to use an beautiful anti-war song and basically turn it into an SS marching song.
You forgot to mention Pussy Riot! Most people overseas know them for their feminism but less about their LGBTQ rights activism and broader political works. Sometimes peoples politics doesnt come in neat package. For example Lena Katina from Tatu is pro-LGBT but Z (I expected better from her. I already knew Yulia is nuts and always has been) Anyway theyre some of the most outspoken anti-Z and anti-Putin famous Russians right now. Their latest song calls for Putin to be tried, they even say Slava Ukraini and that the west needs to go harder on Putin. They also call Putins regime a "terrorist regime." Pretty badass considering the pressure on modern day Russians to stay quiet and especially because they have already been imprisoned for their activism before.
Hi Zack it's Pete from South wales UK ,good to hear you again there is an old saying " everything comes to he who waits " I belive that Putins life will come to an end very soon , my country like most of the world is helping the Ukrainian people as much as we can ,I am glad you are out of Russia and hope any of your family are safe. Your friend Pete.
Zakhar, your hairstyle of today is really very creative! Love from Austria (country where Profil is situated which made an interview you last year) and much success for the community college!
Hello Zack!!! Super super interesting!!! Thank you! Do you know how about Nyusha (pop) and Oligarkh (electronic music)? It would be great to know. Thank you for your great work!
Music is a way of expressing emotions and feelings towards situations. The first type of people the Kremlin would have targeted to go Z Plus would be all people who can impress on the people. This means artists first. The kids and teenagers are the future so programming them now with Z music serves the Kremlin.
Very informative. There would be two other artists that I would be curious about. The first, although I believe he passed over last Autumn is Boris Moiseev. The second is Dimash Kudaibergenov.
I don't know the other artist but I can tell about Dimash Qudaibergen. He is not Russian but a Kazakh artist, who just performed in Russia at times. (He performs all around the world.) When the war started, Dimash was going to premiere his new song in Moscow with Igor Krutoy (the composer, born in Ukraine). Well... They turned down the whole event (didn't go there at all), and haven't performed in Russia (and Belarus) ever since. Dimash has spoken against the war many times, in all his concerts as well as interviews. Besides, peace is one of Dimash's main topics which he promotes always and everywhere. I recommend to see his mv, released last fall, 'The Story of One Sky'. It's an anti-war song & mv. Dimash composed the music himself and sung the song, scripted mv for it and acted the main role. I see there a lot of references to this war, but also others (like WWII). A great work, even brutal.
Hi Zack! I loved this video. I would love to hear more music from the non- z groups. I am editing this as I just watched Putin singing Blueberry Hill. I didn't know he was a singer! He had the charisma of a cockroach - exactly as he does everything - like a cockroach!
Great video, and your position is much more conscious than of the vast majority of Russians. I did not understand though, why would you call a Belarusian band Molchat Doma a Russian band. Even in their video you've attached right after saying this, the solist says they are Belarusian band from Minsk.
Its a real shame to see how these people that I've grown up listening to turn out to be such spineless and untrustworthy people. I honestly know half of Nautilius' songs by heart and I remember when I play Sergey Lazarev on replay every day. Real shame.
Thank you for this. It is hard to always know where some artists stand and I am grateful for those who have senses and / or the integrity to stand by what is right. I'm glad some of my favourites I can still listen to. 🫶 And thank you for supporting Ukraine. You are of the brothers and sisters that remain. When we rid Ukraine of russian invasion, I hope to see russia liberated of tyranny, too. I still have a friend stuck in russia and we hope some day this will end and we can enjoy music together in better times. Дякую 💙💛 Слава Україні
Love your mustache! Thanks for the informative video! By the way, Zack (or anyone in the comment), is there any way you can find out if a band called Amatory is Z or not? They're my favorite Russian heavy-metal band, but everything about them online is in Russian.
The only band I know of are Tatu and Nautilius because I watched Brat. Also Zack, in yiur video on Prigozhin, at 5:20 you showed a picture of Narendra Modi with Putin in his restaurant. I wonder what year that was.
I'm learning classical music so I can say that classical russian music is part of modern culture. Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Litvinovsky are all a big W. Tbh I don't know about modern russian musicians a lot
This is a great overview, Zack. I think Monetochka deserves a mention for being a very outspoken foreign agent, as I understand it she toured with Noize MC to raise money for the benefit of Ukrainian refugees. I believe Mumiy Troll has also opposed the war.
Zack I can guess there is lots and lots of research behind this video. Hopefully you get lots of likes! Thank you very much for assembling this information, especially for the none Russian speaking YT watchers. I belong to the few people who don’t bother much about music but you made me curious now to look up a few videos you mentioned. Thank you also for the introduction of your friends channel. I will look it up, I have a feeling that she posts content that interest me. Pity you don’t have super-thanks button here. I would gladly donnate spontaneously when I have money in the uncomplicated way. PS. If a voting is going on regarding yr moustache: my vote is 👎👎😉😊 It spoils yr good looks imho 😀
Thank you, Zack, for introducing Shortparis! I've now listened to them on YT and I think they have a very interesting sound and way of performing. One thing puzzles me though, how come, if they're not Z supporters, they are able to work and go on tour in Russia right now? I would so appreciate your take on this, Zahar. Spasibo.✌🤍💙🤍 🇺🇦🇸🇪
I usually listen to metal and listen to the band IMPERIAL AGE, a Russian band which performs in English. They denounced the war and several of them fled Russia. I also stumbled over the big Z - SHAMAN. Maybe you have some insight to this: While SHAMAN promotes himself as Mr. Russian and Shaman is a word English took from Russian, he spells it with the Latin alphabet. Is this because when he started, the western alphabet would stand out and look more western? It appears several artists have done this. Now the case of the use of Z, a Latin alphabet is a bit different. I'm just surprised at the hyper Russian events, he is using the Latin spelling of it. It just appeared culturally out of sync. It makes me think of Serbo-Croat - one spoken language, but if you are Catholic (Croat) you use the Latin alphabet and if you are Eastern Orthodox (Serb) you use the Cyrillic alphabet. The two groups are defined by their alphabet.
Zack, you got a stache!!! You turned me on to Ice Peak and I have been listening to them ever since. I sadly missed them last year when they did a concert in LA last year. But I did get to see Pussy Riot perform in my town for Pride 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
seeing Polina Gagarina at the concert "Z for the world (or peace?) without nazism" I wonder what do Russian and especially those Z-Russians define as nazism? Is it a cussword? Is it a political ideology or political spectrum? Does it refers to Nazi Germany? Is it connected to extreme nationalism and rassism? But extreme nationalism, rassism or neonazis also exist within Russia - why is this never a topic with Russian politicians (if they want to fight it...) - why is nazism always external, outside of Russia?
Adding Yuri Shevchuk of DDT into the anti-war category, definitely recommend him, Springsteen-like sound and brilliant poetic lyrics worth looking up if you're not a Russian speaker.
one of my favorite bands is Murakami/Мураками, i've listened to their music since 2015 but i've had trouble gauging their stance on the war. They put out a нет войне post on instagram not long after the war started, but deleted it at some point afterwards and haven't brought up anything referencing the war since. IIRC they have also held concerts in sevastopol post-2014. does anyone know more about them? their lead vocalist is Диляра Вагапова if it helps
What about Пикник / Piknik ? For what I know, they have performed in Crimea after 2014, and expressed surprise at this being not well perceived in Ukraine. But what of their position after 2022 ?
ALBATROSS (was?) another band from Karelia worth to mention. Their song 'Magic of xui' (in runglish) Phrase from the lyrics "xuilo, ask the Ukranians, who is it?" (prewar) Or their musicvideo, colab with 'Birchpunk' 'Serdtse' A masterpiece (according to me))
Hello, Zack. I will look into Shortparis, thank you for the introduction. Goodnight and good luck. To add a few names... From 1980s, long disbanded or inactive, Форум/Forum and Альянс/Alyans. Viktor Saltikov, Forum's singer, might still be around. Oleg Parastaev, founder of Alyans, died in 2020. --- Two great composers that are known outside Russia primarily for their work in films of Andrey Tarkovski, Vyacheslav Ovchinnikov (1936-2019) and Eduard Artemyev (1937-2022). Not that it would change my admiration for their work, but I don't know about their view on current authoritarian regime. --- Remembering the late great Dmitri Shostakovich, who has suffered under the Stalin regime but did not give in. As regards the essence of the problem... The attributes of the apparent aggressor in this case are obvious. However, opposing aggression is not equal to virtue by default. In other words, opposing is necessary but not sufficient. There is not a single government or nation in the world that could rightly claim moral high ground. Hypocrisy, confusion and idiocy are and will be the common legacy of humanity. _Just saying._
Musicians I haven't mentioned:
1) 5sta family - Z (visited Crimea after 2014, prohibited to visit Ukraine since 2021)
2) Звери/Zveri - against the war and never visited Crimea after 2014
3) Dabro - most likely against the war. Originally from Donbas. 2 days before the war planned a tour in Ukraine.
4) Инна Вальтер / Inna Valter - apolitical.
5) POLNALYUBVI - against the war.
6) Три Дня Дождя / Tri dnya dozhdya - Z
7) DORA - against the war.
8) Loquimen - against the war.
9) Электрофорез / Electroforez - against the war.
10) WIldays - against the war
11) Kostromin - apolitical.
12) источник / istochnik - against the war.
13) Увула/Uvula - against the war.
14) Cладкий Cон / Sladkiy Son - apolitical.
15) Второй этаж поражает - against the war
Thank you so much. I was waiting for this video for a long time.

Husky? Sorry if this is a dumb question :p
What about: Zivert, NILETTO, Klava Koka, Mari Kraimbrery? I assume many of them have no public view or silent on the matter.
Any word on Tractor Bowling/Louna or Slot?
Zack
Thank you for all your hard work you put into this production, I appreciate it very much.
I can't find the words to express how wrong this war is. Life is precious and the lost of human life is simply heartbreaking. I pray for peace and healing and a return to what was.
God bless you and your people. Love from Texas USA
Hello Zack, it pains me to see how much more sad you look in comparison to a year ago. You are a wonderful human being. Wish you all the best !
He doesn't look sad at all! What are you talking about?? Put some glasses on!
@@chevychase Maybe he’s just tired. I think a lot of people are not getting enough sleep. Please try to not be so negative. 🙏🏽🌻
I also thought he looked sad. It was my first impression.
Maybe the mustache makes him look sad?
Thank you for your research efforts, dear Zack! Now I, as a German Russian (российский немец), know exactly to whose music I should continue to listen and to whose not. Btw, the group DDT (ДДТ) led by Yuri Shevchuk is also against the war.

Still one of my favorite channels. You always teach us new things. Hope to see you attending college soon.
It was very interesting... we are with you! God bless Ukraine and you, too. Thank you! Best wishes, from Hungary.
Your channel has been my go to for Eastern European music for a while, so this was hugely helpful.
wow this summary is massive!! Thanks Zack
Thank you, Zack, for your thorough work! I didn't know about Tatu and Nautilius's position. That's really upsetting, I liked their songs in my childhood. I know that B2 have recently performed in LA against the war.
Zack, you put a lot of work into this very informative video. I can't imagine how you came up with all this information. Good job!
Instant upvote for the thumbnail

Of course all the postpunk bands are against the war. That band "Shortparis" is amazing, I'll listen to them more.
That Shortparis song is intense 😭
Best wishes from Germany
Good Morning Zack. It's always good to see you my friend. ❤❤❤
Aww alla Pugachova I grew up in a communistic Poland I remember her ! Btw loved the special effects 😂😂 love your humour
Damn Zack your channel is getting better and better, i absolute love everything you do 👌👌👌
Thoroughly enjoyed this video!

Big W?
Be careful u don't get yo nuts crack'd! ;D
This is a great overview, Zack. I think Monetochka deserves a mention for being a very outspoken foreign agent, as I understand it she toured with Noize MC to raise money for the benefit of Ukrainian refugees. I believe Mumiy Troll has also opposed the war.
moustache wow , glad your still doing good
Zack I can guess there is lots and lots of research behind this video.
01:00 -she sang in Eurovision
Love your mustache
Hi again Zack. I noticed in the comments, Jen petzold said IC3PEAK is playing a concert in Georgia. I hope you can go. I would for sure.✌️
hey,
yeah I know they coming, but I won't go, the tickets are pricey
maybe next time
Thank you, Zack, for introducing Shortparis!
Not a musican, but an Idol for me: Dmitry Gluchowski. So glad he directly judged the russian war of agression.
Yep, an excellent writer, his Metro trilogy is amazing (and the games were made by a Ukrainian developer).
@@rafaelkesic Yes, in Kyiv! I also absolutely love these games!
Vote No to the moustache !
Ah thumbs up...
Zack, you got a stache!!! You turned me on to Ice Peak and I have been listening to them ever since. I sadly missed them last year when they did a concert in LA last year.
But I did get to see Pussy Riot perform in my town for Pride 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Is there any "Pride" in Russia? Ukraine? Seems like Russia doesn't like gay people.
I wasn't expecting to see Zack the Russian with a mustache...
I think this moustache deserves a proper trial. Can we please get a poll? Babyface or Mario.
Yah👍👍👍
Being an old metal fan, I wonder where Август and Круиз stand when it comes to the war. If the musicians are still alive anyway.
lol Zack singing is so cute
seeing Polina Gagarina at the concert "Z for the world (or peace?) without nazism" I wonder what do Russian and especially those Z-Russians define as nazism? Is it a cussword? Is it a political ideology or political spectrum? Does it refers to Nazi Germany? Is it connected to extreme nationalism and rassism? But extreme nationalism, rassism or neonazis also exist within Russia - why is this never a topic with Russian politicians (if they want to fight it...) - why is nazism always external, outside of Russia?
I was beyond horrified to see Polina there.
Zack, Nady, Aliena are the future and I like that look.
Adding Yuri Shevchuk of DDT into the anti-war category, definitely recommend him, Springsteen-like sound and brilliant poetic lyrics worth looking up if you're not a Russian speaker.
Привет и спасибо
Wasn't she the original singer of Lulluby. Aida Nikolaychuk won Ukraine's Got Talent singing her song.
one of my favorite bands is Murakami/Мураками, i've listened to their music since 2015 but i've had trouble gauging their stance on the war.
Zack for president!!!!
ALBATROSS (was?) another band from Karelia worth to mention.
Their song 'Magic of xui' (in runglish)
Phrase from the lyrics "xuilo, ask the Ukranians, who is it?" (prewar)
Or their musicvideo, colab with 'Birchpunk' 'Serdtse'
A masterpiece (according to me))
Like the hair 👍
There's two russian groups that I know that were not mentioned, now I wonder if my music taste is too obscure...
And what about PLOHO and MOTORAMA concert in Crimea??
