- The family is stressed out and Kate is nervous as she must continue to wait for news from the doctor on Monday, whether or not she has cancer. Buddy may lose her friend Laura (Kim Richards), whose family may have to move to Detroit.

Thank you for showing these shows with a warm-hearted family feeling. I love it. I watched as a teenager and eagerly waited a week for the next episode to come on. People then were more down to earth. This was a really good show about human relationships….

Wow, I love the original theme song they used at the beginning of the first few episodes of season one so much more than the one they ended up using for the rest of the series.
If this was today 2020, Buddy would of been dolled up to look way older. It is TV, but the concern is thoughtful for both Kate and Buddy. We can't forget each other!!

The📺🎭🎬📽️ ending was simply too precious, when the family gathered outside of the doctor's office. I wept 😿🤧😫😣😖😞😓😤😭throughout the entire episode as usual, thank you ❗❕

campus in Pasadena, on the San Pasqual Walk. The tall building in
the background is the Millikan Library, and the beige building behind
Doug and Willie is the Officers of the Faculty building. It is located next to
the Humanities Reading Room building.
...That's where Kate & Nancy attended classes too, only they called it Rutledge.👍🏽💯😊

After seeing this first episode and the first Nan cy, I'm glad they got Meredith Baxter Birney she looked more like a self-centered person that Nancy was, and a better actress too.

As I was 13 when this show was first around, circa 1976, I thought I was much too cool to watch such a dumb-ass and sappy show. Now here I am at 60 starting to cry when the mother doesn't have cancer. What's happening to me??

I think this when they were getting Meredith Burney for the role, but I could be wrong.
I haven’t seen these episodes in years.
Elayne Heilveil (the original Nancy) was in only 4 of the 6 episodes in Season 1. Meredith Baxter replaced her in Season 2. Meredith did not appear in all episodes in Seasons 2-5, as she was the mother of 3 young children at the time and didn't want to commit to appearing in every episode.
Nancy's part was always SR-recurring, even once Elayne Heilveil was replaced with Meredith Baxter-(Birney).

********** I wonder why tho they got rid of the original actress that played Nancy- did they like Baxter better? She sure did play it better, the original was wonderful but for a different part. Baxter is so good at playing the beautiful perfect annoying sometimes Nancy. When she was supposed to be a bit self centered and cold she did it so well, then when she’s humbled and vulnerable we love her then too.
