I never knew she was a child star. Old school Hollywood managed to make teenagers look like 30 year old adults. When I found out Linda Darnell was 15 in her first movie with Tyrone Power, I was shocked. She looked like she was 20.

I didn't live her life, but looking at it from the outside, it sounds like child abuse. And probably common during that time for children with stage parents.

Definitely was! Her mother saw her as a cash cow. Unfortunately so did some of her husbands. That’s why she remarried so many times.

Yesss! Unfortunately it is still happening in families! The pretty oldest daughter who is ambitious still has to look after her worthless younger siblings! The are lazy, selfish spoiled and needy today as adults! Sometimes it isn't worth it to be the good daughter! I helped raise them but managed to graduate from the university in my town and today at 69 yrs old l am working pastime in a a jcpenny salon! I am proud of my achievements and that l didn't trow away my dreams doing for others! My mother had the last 2 children late and life ,she needed help! My oldest sister moved out after high school, ran away from us! She is still irresponsible at age 74 yrs old My dad passed away at 93, a kind intelligent man who worked hard for his family his whole life. If it wasn't for Daddy l never could have survived in that extreme ly difficult family! He always told me Lucindy you can do it! I know u can! At least he had faith in me. Daddy and l believe d in God! The rest of the family only cared about themselves, food and money, other people's money! How to get it! I still pray for them,my parents are long gone now 🎉🎉

Fascinating, especially since the pandemic there has been an INCREASE in women (black women in particular) practicing certain spiritual rituals. Your cover of Jane is so very beautiful and glamorous. Jane was a top talent and draw at MGM during the 40's and 50's, providing much enjoyment to movie-goers with her sweet face, her classical singing and dancing. She also sang popular ballads. While she could excel in very high notes in her songs, she could also modulate her voice for a number like Judaline from A date with Judy. She was such a humongous star that she received top billing over Elizabeth Taylor in the aforementioned film. But music and dance changed over the years and MGM too ceased making the type of musicals they made back in the old days. Sadly, Ms. Powell's movie career too came to an end.

It’s inspiring as well as intimidating, how talented everyone was back then. I can only imagine how they’d view people nowadays. I envy the people who were raised in a time, where everyone wanted to dance like Fred Astaire, be as well dressed as Grace Kelly and Scarlett O’Hara, or as poised as Elizabeth Taylor. Back when you had to have killer talent just to get in through the door, because they didn’t have filters or airbrushing like they do today. We have a few amazingly talented gems today, but there is no denying how back then, they could truly be classified as human,”stars.”

Ohhhh, I absolutely adore Jane Powell. She radiated beauty and light ✨!!! I believed she was as sweet as pie in real life, and I was right... As someone who has an incredibly controlling mother with mental health issues, her story resonates with me. It's heartbreaking 💔, but I had to completely walk away for my own well-being. Who doesn't want a Mom??? I have no regrets because staying is a source of misery!!!
I also cried and cried, and ask God to take this life from me (due to the pain from my Mom) as a child. You'd never know it, because I'm bubbly and have a big smile (like Jane). Jane was a talented and beautiful queen 👸🏽. She deserves her flowers 💐. I love you, Jane! Thanks for talking about her life, Karine darling ❤! It's therapeutic for me, and I feel more connected to her. I literally just bought her book 📖!!!

Jane Powell has always been one of my favorites ❤ Love her in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers! Such a beautiful, bird like voice! I would love to see you do a breakdown of Deanna Durbin. Similar to Jane Powell but an even better voice in my opinion. Was Judy Garland's competition for getting into MGM. Studio execs put them both in a movie short called Every Sunday, to test their on screen presence and to choose between them. I love this golden age of Hollywood stars! Thank you for your quality content!

Jane Powell was a sweet cutie all her life , even at the end . I saw other vids where she said she was friendly with Liz Taylor in her early years , but Taylor was not the type of personality you could stay mad at as evidence from other ladies such as Debbie Reynolds and Shirley MacLaine , Liz Taylor was just being Liz Taylor never malicious . Seven Brides was her best film but with the end of old time musical she worked manly stage concerts and TV . Jane Powell 's dyed blond hair really set off her looks .
