  • The school streets movement is taking the globe in general, and the Paris area in particular, by storm, making the streets near schools free from motor vehicle traffic, sometimes for limited hours and sometimes permanently 24-7. This video highlights what a Paris school street is like on a random mid-June Saturday afternoon.

Hi Everyone! My name is John Simmerman, and I’m a health promotion and public health professional with over 30 years of experience. Over the years, my area of concentration has evolved into a specialization in how the built environment influences human behavior related to active living and especially active mobility.
Since 2010, I've been exploring, documenting, and profiling established, emerging, and aspiring Active Towns wherever they might be while striving to produce high-quality multimedia content to help inspire the creation of more safe and inviting, environments that promote a "Culture of Activity" for "All Ages & Abilities."
The Active Towns Channel features my original video content and reflections, including a selection of podcast episodes and short films profiling the positive and inspiring efforts happening around the world as I am able to experience and document them.

    Yeah! My home city.
The "rues aux écoles" (literally "streets of schools" that can be understood a bit like a revolutionary slogan "streets for the schools!", like belonging to the schools) are a great measure.
Children attending schools are a lot more protected when they hang around near the entrance, and the street becomes like a secondary playground that is open 7 days a week.

@@ActiveTowns I did not yet received my new PRM friendly e-tricycle, but next time, I'll be happy to guide you around Paris and demonstrate how a walkable and cyclable city is much better for everyone having mobility issues.
Hope that you enjoyed your stay.
