When I listen to Helen's words about how she describes and feels music - I am confident to state that she has reached/achieved a highest level of "enlightenment" for a musician of her kind- which is reflected in her thoughts, her actions, her persona & what she stands for. What an extraordinary human being to be inspired by & to learn from...
I have just completed the reading of Helene Grimaud's 3rd book, "Retour à Salem", after I was so lucky to watch and listen to her playing Brahm's piano 1st Concerto recently: such a Personality is exceptional because of her both commitments to the Ecology - especially the Animal Rights and the Music, of course. She contributes to stimulate our need to live as "Human BEINGS and not Human-doings" as she said. She is authentic, admirable and... long life to her!
Helene's analysis of the non tangible aspects of Brahms music is profound. Being invigorated by the performance of the Concertos seems a necessity due to the energy needed to adequately perform them. Her explanation of overcoming the distance she at first experienced in performing the 2nd concerto resonates with my personal evolution in performing certain pieces. She bridges the gap between cultures in accomplishing the transcendent nature of Brahms' work. Ditto the social and environmental goals. A new friend and ally.
had the privilege of seeing her up close tonight with the Detroit orchestra playing brahms 2. the grace and charm she emanates is incredible. it was like being in the presence of a queen. her playing was transcendent. an absolute stunning beauty
Such an elegant and sophisticated artist. Love the Brahms recordings, Grimaud manages to bring out the many nuances in the music that many musicians miss in the sheer enormity of these works.
I also heard her playing both Brahms concerti with Slatkin in Detroit. What they did with the 3rd movement of the 2nd concerto was profoundly moving. An exquisite interpretation and performance. What a gift to see and hear it live.
A wonderful recording that stands alone but is given even more substance by Helene's intelligent and articulate exposition. And what a generous - and fully deserved - compliment she pays to Andris Nelsons.
Good interview. I thought at the beginning the interviewer would be somewhat inept. I enjoyed many of her questions and her progressions. It was easy to link in to the discussion without being a total afficianado, yet there was scope for lots of novel insights.
The 2nd concerto is brutally difficult. Fierce virtuosic elements throughout the entire piece.eg. Arpeggio scales in the right and left hands in the First movement and double note thirds scales 7 against 6 cross rhythms in the Finale and double note third scales in the right and left hands playing parallel at breakneck tempo.
Chère Hélène, aide-moi s'il te plaît à monter sur scène. Je ne veux pas être le deuxième film "The Pianist". Mais ça va cette route. Je vous souhaite bonne chance tous les soirs!
She is the youngest composer on Earth. She wrote also pieces for symphony when she was age 5. At age 6 she got 3 Awards for composing, her piano play and her talent. Watch her and you will amazed. ua-cam.com/video/Y-xbPlBqoOg/v-deo.html

That's right! I love her version of Brahms concerts 1+2. It increases the natural force of everyone listening to.

A true, serious, intelligent, genuine and very talented artist.

Enthralling conversation I could listen to Helen talking about music for considerably longer
than I could imagine.
I really appreciate her interpretations.

Hélène Grimaud, such a great pianist!

An intelligent, articulate woman w/ an engaging personality. There is so much more to Helene than merely being a pianist. 06/21/2014
Thank you Helene❤🎉
Thank you, very much indeed for this inspirational interview! Awe and reverence!
So articulate, smart, profound and of course magnificently talented and beautiful ❤️❤️
Who would down-vote this? Why? There's nothing negative about this interview at all!

Brilliant.
Helene I love you. You are beautiful. Your mind is beautiful. Your hands are beautiful. Your music is beautiful.
+Smilthy so true...she is so genuine!
I saw her first.
I wish I was a wolf...so she'd like me!
I still saw her first. ( Btw, I noticed recently that she dated Liam Neeson at one point. )
What a female musician. She is the best musician I know who can express her art and emotion in such an organized way.
Have you ever seen Emily Bear?

Why be so punitive? The second remark of the two was pretty apt, do you agree?
What a fascinating girl. Enlightened pianist
Grimaud takes simple questions and weaves profound answers.
Perhaps an angel

Wow! I have found someone else who loves Brahms's 3rd, and that person is HG.
Very clever.

Really interesting interview. I am curious how people with synesthesia experience Captain Beefheart's music.
TODO UN PLACER HELENE BUENOS DIAS
