Very Nice Davie. Thankyou 4 this Salmon Fly Tying demonstration.
You Take Care..🌴🏄♂️🎣Aloha🤙🏼
Delighted you tied the good old Garry Dog. A lovely old Tweed pattern and my favourite.
Very nice tie, thanks Davie.
The Garry, Stinchar stoat and Thunder and lightning were all I ever fished in the 70’s.
The Stinchar Stoat is a great pattern
I still use the garry dog probally as my go to flie
Stinchar stoat
Thoroughly enjoyed this tying Davie. One of my favourites.
Thanks Big Davie. Stay safe.
Great pattern and excellent job
Beautifully tied Davie. Thanks for the tips 🎣
Excellent tye as usual Davie. I am a ghillie on the Sprouston beat where this fly came from. Infact on the outside wall of the Sprouston Manse House there is a plaque in memory of garry the dog, whom all salmon fishers are in debt inscribed on it.
Hi Billy,
I've fished Sprouston many years ago, a lovely piece of water, I got a lovely sea trout...Hopefully I'll get a chance to visit it again someday and thanks for the info on the Garry Dog..
All the very best Davie..
Very nice looking fly Davie. Nicely tied and well explained. Many thanks for sharing.
One of my favourite flies
Nice fly there Davie. As I’ve said before, I only have singles so single it will be! lol. Thank you for another one dude.
Very nice patterns 👍👍🎣
Very nice! I love to watch the master at work! Thanks for sharing your talent!.KANSAS USA
A great classic!
Really nice Davie
Found one in box couple seasons ago when fishing easkey river and guess what worked just fine☘🎣🐳
Superb tying as always. Well done Davie
I don’t have any double hooks available in the NW of America. I’m going to order some, because I just love the look of these things!
Well done!
Great! thanks Davie.
Nice info on the 5 turns , makes sense.
I thought it was because back in the day a body hackle used to follow the rib, and five turns gave a nice density of hackle. But I wouldn’t argue with the man!
Hi Callum,
I would say both five turns of rib as well as hackle, the reason being that not all flies have a body hackle though so to me this makes sense but this is my view..Thanks for the reply Callum..
All the very best Davie
Davie thanks for doing my sugestion i would usally do orange and yellow calf tail with no hackles .another good one to tie is a bann special
As always a great ty 😊
Gorgeous..
Só coisas lindas show Maravilha Mestre gênio parabéns
Nice 👍
Great tying ás always Davie, thank you for all the time effort you put into your videos. I was wondering if you might have the dressing for Duncan Egans flaming pig? It was published in trout and salmon many years ago but I've lost it?
Cheers JP
Great fly Mr. McPhail. I have started fly tying during the first lockdown and enjoy your video's very much. May I ask what type / brand of hackles you use / prefer / recommend? I have Veniard cock hackles, but they break quickly when turning around the hook.
Hi chantalhaak,
I have attached some links to some of the capes I would recommend from one of the sites that mainly sell salmon fly tying material,. I hope this is of some help to you, I also use a lot of materials from Veniards and the cape I used in the video came from them...I'm glad you liked the fly..

What colour veniard dye tube would you use to get the red buck tail. They don`t have just plain red. Dark Claret, light claret, crimson, magenta, Flou Red & scarlet bright red are the choices available to me. Do you dye your own buck tail & deer. Love your videos & especially how informative you make them.
Hi CrawlChopper,
I have attached a link to the colours that Veniards use and I would use Scarlet Red normally though Crimson is a good colour as well..I don't dye bucktails as I would rather buy them if I am honest though I have dyed them in the past when I need a certain colour..I'm glad you enjoyed the video..
All the very best Davie..
Nice
Another deadly fly. Davie if you had to pick 5 small salmon tube flies around 3/4 inch for coloured/dirty water what would be your pick?
Lovely tie. I've also heard this fly referred to as the Parsons dog. Is that true?
Hi Chuck,
I think that is right and I'm sure I read this myself..
All the very best Davie
👍
👍🤝
I have to ask if there are any fly patterns for ice fishing?
Hi Mark,
There is patterns out there for ice fishing though I've no videos on them..
All the very best Davie
Does the tail have to be golden pheasant crest on salmon flies
Hi Joseph,
No you can leave it out if you want as the fly will still work well or just use hair, hackle fibre or even a floss if you still want a tail..
All the very best Davie
How come you did not tie in the tip of The hackle as you usually do
