*Always annoyed with our cat and **Trainr.pet** this got me fed up on kicking it out. But what saved it from that was when my mom told us what to do with this program when she brought it up. I must say, they are the coolest ever!*
I’m going hiking for a week this summer with an elderly cat who isn’t used to hiking and a lab puppy. It’ll be a challenge, and that’s why I’m looking into things this early. I really hope it works out, or I’ll have to leave my little Harry at home which I hope it doesn’t come to, since he gets very lonely and is very attached to his family. Will have to look into rucksacks in case he gets tired, as well as something for the puppy. Labs have very sensitive hips, so I don’t want the little guy to walk too much!
I'm hoping to get my little girl out on the trail this summer also. Her regular backpack is rather large, so I'm not sure that I'll be able to take that with me along with my backpack full of our stuff for travel (food, litter box, kitty dishes, litter scoop, etc). Hopefully the smaller one that I used for her when she was tiny will do the trick... she does get into it at home once in a while to doze, so I'm hoping she'll be ok to ride in it when she either needs a break or when something scares her and I need to keep her secure.
I think I might have accidentally trained her to balance on my back 😹 she loves being carried over the shoulder everywhere and she'll just stand on my shoulder whenever she wants to jump off (even if I'm standing straight!)
My little girl got into hanging out on my shoulder when she was a kitten, and just kept doing it as she grew up. Fortunately she's still quite petite, but unfortunately her claws seem to be even sharper now than when she was growing up.
I'm wanting to take my cat on the appalachian trail. She is harness trained, she just lays down if she feels a tug on the leash. I wear her in a baby carrier. But the added weight of taking a cat and their gear and food... my cat was declawed by a previous owner so the backpacking cat isn't going to work with my cat. She can't use claws to balance so she rarely climbs on anything. She is super attached to me so I gotta bring her. Can't leave her behind. She would be traumatized.
I worry about her need for a litterbox. If I lock her in a tent with me at night so she doesn't run off, she needs a box. The other alternative I've actually seen people letting their cat roam free outside at night but I can't put her at risk like that. So I gotta figure out a litterbox option.
Mines super mellow and does it OFF LEASH. I have a cat backpack and he has a harness and Tractive LTE gps tracker on his harness. The leash just got super annoying and he never runs away his safe space is in his backpack!!! He’s good in hotel rooms and long car rides (we live in northern British Columbia 😙) I used a leash for his kitten hood but he’s a big flame point Siamese boy now and hated the leash

My cat legit fights so much. He’s a sweetheart but he really like to have control of his body. Had him for almost 2 years now and he’s never liked to be held more than 5 seconds lol. Having trouble with the harness as well.
When you get aah sorry.. When a cat gets you the first thing you should do is get them used to a harness. SUPER EASY when they are kittens and they will grow up thinking it's normal. Avoids the high percentage of cats instantly falling onto their sides and turning into ankors. Also you should give them baths or rather in between baths get them used to playing in a few inches of water with toys or actual fish to play with. Just remember when they start knocking glasses of water over you technically trained them to do that........ If you have a fish tank make sure the top is on tight because see previous statement..... Train them to stop walking by commands as well as return to you. Might as well get a subscription for Temptation treats (kitty crack) It helps IMMENSELY speed up the training. Just don't give them too many all the time. Oh. And store the container in another container then lock it in a safe. THEY WILL find the box and utterly destroy it to get the treats.. If not you will come home one day and find a torn up plastic tub of Temptations and a cat laying on it's side next to the empty tub with a look on their face like when you woke up the next day after a serious party of beer pong, shots and (error 404 file not found) no memory of what you did but you moaned never again.. Never ever again.. Oh my head... Guess how I know what happens....... No idea how she at all the treats with a volume bigger then her whole body. Teaching a cat to walk on a leash and play in water is so worth the first time you take them to the beach. Well once you deal with the whole I know it looks the same only way bigger but the beach is NOT your dream litter box........... Be ready for a long and VERY slow walk as just about every girl on the beach will walk up OHHH that's so cute!!!! It once took me 3 hours to wall half a mile.. Walk 20 feet Ohh that's so cute.. stop.. Walk Ohh that's so cute.. stop.. Start walking again. Stop. OHHH that's so cute! A retractable leash is a must have. Aside from letting the cat explore a bit on a longer line you can fish with your cat Cast your cat out with a whoosh then reel em back in click click click click.. Caught yet another bikinus hotis species......
Your cat might be too overstimulated or might not be cut out for walks. You should watch Jackson Galaxy's video on walking your cat because he talks about how not every cat is suited to go out.
when i got my kitten i started with a collar, and i put sweaters( literally just a fuzzy sock i cut) on him to get him used to having that feeling on his body. but i took it off when he started grooming and was trying to lick where the sqeater was. doing this process many times a week.
