i recorded this when i watched on bbc 1 in 98 and played along on guitar when i was 13 doing all nicks parts, 10 years later i moved 300miles to london to become a musician..amazing performance
I agree with a previous comment. This live version gives me the chills everytime I watch it. I absolutely love The Verve. One of the most underrated bands.
Sends tingles down the spine and hairs stand on end! So glad I was there! Walked home to Coppull after the gig with friends and we couldn't believe how lucky we were to experience such a wonderfull performance. Crowd were amazing!xxx
I wish I was born 10 years younger, this performance and the gig as a whole is probably best i've ever seen at a Verve gig. Being held in wigan helps :D, but seriously amazing performance on this and all the other songs, crowd look right up for it aswell, like it should be at all Verve gigs. One of the best bands ever.
I lived about 3 miles from haigh hall at the time of the gig, it took us ages to get there.. it was an amazing day... and I was treated to an extra does when I got home the gig was on bbc2 (i think it was on around 11pm that night). I still have this on VHS somewhere.... amazin thanks for the memories
It's a shame I was too young. One of many things that make me proud to be from Wigan. It's shame they have split again,I would love to see them play here or at the stadium.
@MacGrurry Guitarist and keyboard player in The Verve from 1996-1998. Played a lot of the guitar on Urban Hymns. He is a childhood friend of the band from school and was initially a replacement for McCabe. But McCabe rejoined and the band became a 5 piece. Tong wasn't asked back for the 2007 reunion as he wasn't in the original Verve line up. He's also played live for Blur and Gorillaz and was in the bands The Shining; The Good, The Bad & The Queen; Erland And The Carnival amongst others.
Great comment! When I listen to bands like Sigur Ros, Th Music, and a lot of the new experimental stuff that is out there right now, I know that at the core of it all is Nick McCabe, the man is a genius.
I fucking love this song and video. So powerful and building! Almost makes an American want to be a bloke eh? 3-8-2018 UPDATE! I decided to make sing an acapella cover of Lucky Man! Check it out! ua-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=a6wleO2Gq3k

Certainly one of the best songs ever written. Ever.
Might as well have knocked down Wigan after this gig, the town peaked. Great to have been there (and walked home afterwards!)
