    Nuclear energy creates an uneasy feeling of danger for many people: ancient and dangerous minerals are concentrated to awaken seemingly unnatural powers, creating toxic elements that, if they escape, can and have killed people in horrible ways. How many people has nuclear energy killed and how?

      There have been around 20 trillion trillion (trillion 2 times is not a typo) sentient life forms, including trillions of mammals and 10s of billions of humans, that have been tortured and violated and raped and molested and degraded and murdered by nature. it's been happening for 100s of millions of years, on a global scale without even 1 second of pause in the action .~
      ~
      Life is without question the worst function in the known universe. But DNA psychology seems to have a literally undying dedication to ignoring this. Perhaps it all seems "deep and spiritual and beautiful" when you're whitewashing 540 million years worth of collateral damage. So what's the rest of the pricetag looking like? Why is this happening? And what exactly goes through someone's head, when they conduct a life experiment with a DNA code that literally invented torture, and yet they have the nerve to act surprised when things go wrong? ~
      ~
      Because DNA evolution is just an error code, it is literally mutants and mutation, not even mutating on purpose, and the entire mutant code was strung together by chaotic incident of physics. It does not know what it's doing, or that you even exist - neither DNA nor the universe has anyone's back.
      ~
      That also means this much harm is being caused for no sane purpose. You've probably seen people acknowledge life has no purpose, but The DNA Delusion creeps back in like a virus, "Life has no purpose... so you make up your own." That means senseless torture is being caused for a made-up purpose.~
      ~
      Even supposed intellectual, rational, secular thinkers can't seem to let this notion go: "The universe created life so that it could..." - just keeps missing the point - not only of this philosophy but of evolution's truth entirely. It didn't do anything so anything.~
      ~
      And this is precisely the knowledge that the philosophies of ‘Efilism’ and ‘Antinatalism’ are trying to spread to make the madness stop.

    There is also another factor to this than the pure numbers: Deaths related to nuclear, and renewable energy sources are nearly exclusively related to accidents, while the deaths related to fossil fuels are overwhelmingly a result of regular operation. Accidents can never be eliminated completely, but they can be reduced in frequency and severtiy by good preventative measures. So the potential death numbers of these energy sources are even lower, while fossil fuels will just keep on killing until they are phased out.

      It's still very dangerous, an accident can leave an area uninhabitable for generations. We really need to PERFECT nuclear energy before we completely phase out fossil fuels. Trust me, I really want nuclear energy to phase it out, but we need to improve the technology and perhaps find better alternatives before we do. Solar energy is something we could definitely use and could be utilized better. One thing really holding us back though, is greedy companies that profit from fossil fuels and buy political power

    I can partially understand the fear from some people regarding nuclear reactions. However, I feel that many disregard the fact that it is virtually impossible for another nuclear accident to occur in power plants that utilize modern technology.
    In a modern day nuclear plant, there are a high number of fail-safes to ensure that no meltdown occurs. There are also plants that utilize much safer energy sources to ensure that rogue reactions (which aren’t common to begin with) or problems with materials don’t occur- for example, Thorium is extremely safe compared to Uranium (look up Sam Onella’s video regarding Thorium for more information in a similar vain to Kurzgesagt).
    One other problem that many people have is the radiation involved with nuclear reactions. While it is true that this is an issue that can’t be absolutely prevented- protective barriers, suits, and other measures are taken but are not absolute- this video really hit the nail saying that it is significantly less likely for people to suffer side effects or death in comparison to all other forms of energy. The numbers just don’t lie.
    Nuclear waste is an issue that’s also difficult to combat, but it’s leaps and bounds easier than trying to revert all the damage that the atmosphere and environment have taken through the use of fossil fuels. Worst comes to worse it is theoretically possible that we could launch all nuclear waste into space (just my own speculation), but I’d much rather deal with getting rid of nuclear waste later than trying to deal with an exponentially growing problem that jeopardizes all life on the planet in the form of air pollution and global warming.
    With the modern measures taken to ensure that accidents are a near impossibility and how efficient they are, I really think that the fear of such powerful technology needs to be trusted more as the processes get even safer.

      The main problem we face is making sure we properly dispose of the waste; we have so much of if stored above ground near major water sources in the U.S. that millions could be exposed to radiation poisoning if we don't do something about it in the near future. But yeah, in the long run, I'll take nuclear plants over fossil fuels any day: at least we can deal with nuclear waste!

    • @TheExplodingCore
      @TheExplodingCore Рік тому +7

      If you think about it nuclear waste is the only waste that is being contained. Launching into space is not practical. Too heavy and there's a chance of launch failure/explosion.
      Burying underground is the best way. Remember that nuclear fuel is diluted with solids and molten glass to a point where it's radiating much less which means it's decaying slower which is the reasons it radiates for such a long time in the first place. It can not leak, it doesn't crack and release fumes, it's pretty much inert and just radiates a little bit. It's really not that bad.
      Combine that with the massive energy density..

    • @TheExplodingCore
      @TheExplodingCore Рік тому +6

      @@TheBestAround131 You could place a nuclear waste castor in your garden and it wouldn't be bad. Chernobyl is really a double-edged sword for Nuclear as an option.
      On the one hand, the screwup there made sure everyone became much more aware of the risks and determined to make sure it never happens again.
      But on the other hand, it’s also the example everyone uses as to why Nuclear is dangerous. That, and the fact that Chernobyl itself won’t be safe for about 20,000 years, which sounds so much worse than greenhouse gases and heavy metals.

  • @leem057

    I know this is an old video but I feel the need to comment. I have worked in nuclear power my entire adult life, and it is far safer than almost everything else. I feel like the major issue is that the general public is extraordinarily uninformed about nuclear power, and how it actually works. It seems like the majority of uneasiness about it is that the vast majority of people know next to nothing about it. They also know next to nothing about fossil fuels, and as such form an uneducated opinion based of 2-3 accidents that occurred decades ago. They have no idea the number of deaths that occur annually with traditional fuels vs nuclear, which is in the thousands for coal and basically 0 for nuclear. There is a lot of doom saying about nuclear, but as a short term option, it's as good as it's going to get.

    The thing to remember is that most of the exceedingly deadly isotopes created by nuclear disasters tend to have very low half lives.
    A site can remain radioactive for years, but a good amount of the isotopes causing extreme levels of radioactivity will likely burn themselves away in decay within the first few months after the disaster.
    Naturally this is ignoring some of the social effects of such a disaster....
    Anyway...when isotope half lives are thrown about I like to compare it to a bomb and a candle. The bomb is deadly as it releases a ton of energy all at once. A candle can be made to release the same amount of energy, but since it takes hours instead of milliseconds. It isn't exactly deadly...

    You failed to mention what is considered the third worst (and by some estimates the worst) nuclear disaster in history that had far greater impact than even the Chernobyl meltdown. On September 29, 1957, the Russian ‘restricted’, unmapped town of Chelyabinsk-40, where the Russian government had secretly decided to build an atomic bomb, experienced a reactor meltdown that produced an explosion of 300 cubic meters (10,600 cubic feet) of 70-80 tons of highly radioactive waste. In comparison, during the Chernobyl incident there was primarily a release of iodine-131, which has a half-life of just 8 days, while the Chelyabinsk-40 explosion released strontium-90 (with a half-life of 28.8 years) and cesium-137 (which has a half-life of 30.2 years). The Chelyabinsk-40 explosion had affected 270,000 people living in the region, and the present generation sees an unusually high levels of various types of cancer illness to this day. The Russian government tried to hide the true extent of this incident from the public for decades.

BUT nuclear deaths happen every 14+ years and I'm reality the the most worrisome nuclear disasters are even more rare. The number replaced is such that the annual death toll of smoking is the same as reality. The same number of people are dying, but the outcry in this scenario would be enormous. The deaths are shocking, obvious, and not concentrated on the elderly (who's deaths are viewed as more acceptable, since old people die anyway, nihilistic I know, but that's how human psychology works).

      Well the bible says no man is good, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So how do we get to heaven? Answer: By believing on Jesus Christ who took the punishment for our sin on the cross. There are no amount of good works we can do to achieve salvation because salvation is a free gift of God. We need to humble ourselves, realize we are sinners and that we need a savior.

      I think it's a bad decision as well, but that is being said with the knowledge about nuclear energy we have today. Don't forget how close Germany is to the Ukraine, the radiation spread to Germany, radioactive clouds were raining radioactive water for a while, people were afraid to go outside. And fear is the most powerful weapon when it comes to controlling people. The German "government" is just a bunch of lobby puppet masters, the coal lobby saw their chance and took it. The only thing I don't quite understand is how of all things the green party led the fight against nuclear power. I mean they were supposed to not be affected by the lobbies, but this just goes to show that money is more important than upholding your own values.
