I started surfing in the mid 60s. This is the most accurate depiction of that time. I lived this. The friends I made during this time have stayed with me. Some have passed on and they will remain with me. This film brings back laughs and tears of the "good times".
The most stunning score you can imagine. It shifts from epic to mundane, from powerful to gentle. What a beautiful film about friendship, loyalty and growing up.
We were not surfers, but we grew up at the beach, Stoney Pointe beach, had great memories growing up there, friends pass on, but the memories stay a life time. RIP my good friend Clark greene who wrote a great book about growing up at the beach.
I grew up watching this moving with my dad and his mates! I remember being so young and it got me so hyped to surf. My favourite movie to this day, never gets old
Best movie and soundtack match ever. I surfed in the 70s and this movie is my all time favorite. I feel blessed to have had this lifestyle and it continues today
I grew up thinking this movie was a big cult movie in the US and in the whole world, only to gradually discover it was a finacial bomb and a niche gem known by very few people. But at least it is a cult movie in Italy.
This is the type of music that makes you want to climb mountains "and do the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard" I always get goosebumps listening to this music, its real hero stuff!
Great musical score.... Totally fitting. The music is only partly about the water, Ladislav. This was not a documentary about surfing. This movie is more the lives of people, the friendship,..and the drama of those lives set against the backdrop of surfing....
....6.26. Love this music. Fabulous moment in the movie. Jack Barlow (William Katt) has a final surf at the point before being drafted to Vietnam. Peter Townsend is the actual surfer portraying Katt. He was noted for a move known as the "soul arch" which is shown to perfection in the movie itself. Unforgettable stuff.
Doesn't really get much better ;) Seminal soundtrack.. Basil x Respect to all surfers riding those big waves x Keep it up guys. Bravery is nuts. Grew up in Cornwall. Porthleven. . Savage waves
It really wasn’t a movie about surfing. It was about mythical warriors conquering a dragon. They conquered a dragon when they were young and then reunited to conquer a dragon when they were older. At the end he passed his sword(or surfboard) off the the younger warrior( younger generation).
+JBuddis Amazing job. Really, really amazing. I am a true fan of the movie since I saw it in 1979 in my country when I was 18 y.o. Your editing is simply fantastic. I play it driving and time seem to vanish. Compliments.

The most beautiful music ever composed.......
ジョン・ミリアスが長年温めていた話をビッグ・ウェンズデーというサーファーの間で語り続けられていた伝説とを結びつけこの映画は伝説になった

And that's what makes it great.

Thanks for your comment!
It is an incredibly moving scene. He surfs and must confront his fears on his own. An allegory of life.

"That is the hottest ride I've ever seen."
7:19 sounds so majestic!
Not many people know that Matt's dog was actually Jan Michael Vincent's dog in real life.
I can't find the ""Surfaria" suite listed on BW soundtrack cd (Amazon related page). Odd.
Love this extended version, it's magic and moving.
+TekMaramao Simple answer: I edited it together myself from the available material on the CD. ;)

Oh the book was called Dog is GOD Spelled Backwards by Clark Malcolm Greene
Surfers RuLe . . .
Dal minuto 8:02 ha una fase romantica e triste bellissima❤
Sup Iwan ;D
I hope that there is a great opinionated reason for " Five Dislikes " of this bless ....
I had precisely the same thought
WHO THE HECHK PUT THE THUMBS DOWN?
PATHETIC MUSIC FOR A SURF MOVIE....COMMON....WHERE'S THE SWELL....THE CRASH....THIS IS LIKE SURFING IN LAKE CHAMPLAIN.
Just Go Away.... No offence.
Did u actually see this film. Surfing is only part of what this is. Mind blowing people don't get this score.
Look at your ###### name that answers your stupid opinion
