  • Sometimes you need a little darkness to embrace the Light.
This key was obtained from PRHound for review purposes.
Many games end up being compared to Dark Souls now a days for difficulty discussions, despite the fact that there's much better comparisons out there for them. Hunt The Night however does not fall into that category: whether it be within the narrative of this beaten down world, or the slow but methodical gameplay combat. Dragnix looks at a game that definitely has its strengths and weaknesses, and determines whether or not this game is a match for you.

Great review, I appreciate the level of detail you go into tbh. I'm a big fan of this type of game, I've played others such as Hyper Light Drifter, Unsighted and Death's Door but want to know of any others you would recommend. Thanks again for the review

Let me go through my library tomorrow and make some recommendations (just got back from a hockey game)

So, it really depends on the type of game you are looking for that's this game has elements of. There's elements of dark souls combat, adventure game, etc. First game that did come to mind was Unsighted, but as that's on your played list, let me throw a few other options out there.
DarkMaus was heavily overlooked at I though despite it's minimal art style, the combat options in the 2D plane were pretty excellent, and a great challenge. It's been a while on the exploration side in terms of me remembering all the game's details, but I do remember having fun trying to stay alive yet looking for the next area/etc.
One that I feel was overlooked was No Place for Bravery, which definitely has the deliberate combat element and I thought it did it well, although I will say that I seemingly was a lot higher on it then others in the review space. Some patches have fixed some of the elements that I had problems with though, so it's definitely a game I'd target to grab on given the games that you sighted. Of the ones that I've played recently, it's closest to anything on this list that I've played within the last year.
If you're leaning more into the deliberate combat thing, and willing to go more into a metroidvania style of things: I'd suggest Blasphemous. Dark, great animation/combat and felt like a challenge from the get go. Vernal Edge is another one more recent that mixes more DMC/Spectical Fighting in there.
I'll keep on trying to remember what games that come to mind in comparison to this one (way too many games I've played to remember)

@@Dragnix thanks so much for the recommendations, Metroidvanias are my favorite games so I appreciate those recommendations, Blasphemous was awesome and I was interested in Vernal Edge so I'll def check that out again. I was also interested in a new one called Elderand which seems to get positive reviews. So honestly I'm keen on anything combat and exploration focused in a 2D environment, some of my all time favorites are Hollow Knight, The Messenger, Deaths Gambit, Astalon Tears of the Earth, HLD, Unsighted and Ender Lillies

Hunt The Night is definitely my kinda game🙂
I love pixel art, old school, gothic, top down, atmospheric and challenging games.
One game I absolutely loved was There Is No Light, I'd score that 9.5 out of 10.
Before I watch this what would you score this?
Is Hunt The Night worth full price?

    • @Dragnix
      @Dragnix  Рік тому

I mean, I do score it in the video, and my scoring system is a buyability rating with enhancers. The main score that I had was an 84, which means it's a solid buy (worth a buy at full price, but if you're hurting for cash then you can wait on it). Enhancers/Dehancers would change depending on what type of player you are. Not an "absolutely must buy this right now" game, but the next tier under it. But yes, I would say it's worth the full price.

      @@Dragnix kk thanks.
It's like $26.99 cdn for me, I'll definitely pay that 3 other games I'm waiting for are the full version of Black Skylands Gestalt Steam and Cinder and Hammerwatch 2.

3:20 enjoying the word, "viable" are you? or was that an editing mistake?

    • @Dragnix

That definitely was an editing mistake. Must have cut the file and then stretched one side to repeat the other.

So you're saying I should go into this game blind. But honestly yeah the excessive backtracking seems like it might get to me more than anything here, doing the same thing over and over just to get back to the actual part you're still trying to beat is one of my biggest pet peeves.
