Can You Still Hoop in “The Kobe”?? Adidas Crazy 1 “Metallic Silver” (2022)

More than 20 years after its original release, is “The Kobe” still a viable option on the basketball court today compared to the modern performance shoes? In this video we talk about the Adidas Crazy 1 “Metallic Silver”, aka the Adidas Kobe 1:
This is the shoe that Kobe wore to win his first NBA championship back in 2000. In 2022, Adidas decided to retro this sneaker along with a few other models that Kobe wore before he became a sneaker free agent and eventually signed with Nike.
Performance wise, they basically feel like some chunky bricks on feet. Unfortunately the cushioning setup and comfort level won’t be able to compare against many of the newer releases. It does have solid traction but flexibility is terrible. Going down a half size is what I would recommend.
Let me know your thoughts on the Adidas Crazy 1 in the comments. Is this one of the most iconic non-Nike Kobe shoes?

@@vinzmarvir2139 it’s not money. Well, it kind of is. They can’t make money off things they don’t make and sell. They could stuff the shelves with Kobe’s and they’d still sell out. It’s desirability. Making them so hard to get; makes people want them even more. It keeps Nike Relevant. Same way Adidas had Ye. Yeezy’s were desired. Still are. Now that Ye is gone. What’s Adidas going to sell as a hot product? No one Cares for NMDs anymore, ultra boosts are meh, and superstars aren’t in. And with that, Adidas will be a less desired brand shoe wise. Imo.

Kobe actually wore these for all three titles of the 00-02 three-peat. He broke them out early in the second round in 2000 vs PHX, of course he wore them for the entite 00-01 season when they were released, and then he went back to them from the KOBETWO for the 2002 playoffs.

I remember seeing Kobe wearing the matte black ones during the 2K Finals and thinking to myself “What are those?! I gotta get me a pair!” They weren’t released for another 4-6 months. They were so different and cutting edge compared to everything else in the late 90’s. These were on the forefront of the early 2K’s pseudo-futuristic styling including the Nike Alpha Project. PS - I’m old. 😂

I had the original back in the days. Had the best practice of my high school career. Tried to sneak my pair into the game the next day but coach caught it and ordered me to switch.
This is a shoe that requires some breaking in. Can't remember how long it took but i think it was within a week. After that it was pretty playable. For many obvious reasons this is my favorite Kobe sneaker. And IIRC Kob wore this in all of his playoff runs during the 1st 3 peat.

LOVED this growing up but never could afford it when I was younger. Last release (2013 or 2016 something like that), I FINALLY picked up the Sunshine model. Was a big moment for me. One of my fav shoes of all time (personal reasons/nostalgic reasons also contributes to why I love this shoe. It was also the first pair of shoes that I really wanted when younger, along with the Jordan 13 and my love for it just grew from then on). Got the 2s also lol. Definitely going to pick up a pair during this current release run.

You youngsters don’t understand what a break in period is.. shoes today come out of the box ready to go - but the trade off is that they won’t last as long due to lighter flimsy materials. Shoes from the 90s/00s like this will last much much longer, they just take a few wears to break in and mold to your feet.. but once they do they are actually amazing.. it looks like you wore them for 15 minutes and decided they were no good 😂

Yeah if you wear a size 12 in Nike sneakers, I’d recommend going down a half size to 11.5, which is what I do with most Adidas hoop shoes.
