Excellent review as always and really love your channel. I was wondering what you thought about the pmauriat horns especially the system 76 dark lacquer alto?
I am the original owner of a 1984 purple logo YAS 62, I have always got compliments on my tone. I am messing with G1 neck and am enjoying that as a change. As I get older I am looking for a darker song.
Neck does make a big difference. I've been using a yas23 neck recently because I've an Otto with a narrow bore and I don't want to wreck my 62 neck. Defo not as responsive, particularly altisimo.
2015, I acquired a post-purple 62 from 88-89, not 100% certain of the year (need to check the serial). I was an education turned performance major at the time, and needed a better alto since tenor was my primary at the time. After searching for a couple of months, a 62 came up from Japan, and everything checked out in terms of description, photos with one piece guard, original case, original care kit. So I took a risk, and it’s the best eBay risk ever taken. Still playing on original pads, checked for leaks twice with no issues. I’m giving God all the glory because I don’t feel deserving. I’ll probably never sell it since it does everything I need out of an alto. My tenor is also a 62 from 1992, pretty sure it was a school horn before overhauled and sold to me due to delacquering and scratches all over. It too is a great horn, but I think I need a new neck since it’s seen better days and bent a couple of times. Would love to acquire a YSS-62 of similar era, and eBay seems to believe they’re more valuable than 62 altos and tenors of the time, but one day!
Tell me, is the yamaha 62 purple logo hard to blow? I've been playing on yamaha 62 iii for a long time and now I'm trying the purple logo and it's hard to blow out the sound. Thank you.
@@DeMariusJackson dude, you already had one, forego it's predecessor and try finding a Balanced Action! Or.... a Buffet S1? Better keywork than their Dynaction or SDA models, but all come with a darker sound than a VI or a VII; very very similar to BA or SBA sound but at about half the cost
Surprising tone difference between the 62 and the Eastman. I play a heavily modified 62 as my main alto. Quality horn - the rest just comes down to taste. I wouldn't buy the Eastman - I'd rather try to darken something bright than polish something dark.
Aw man I knew 2 people stationed in Okinawa but they just finished there term and made it back. I am looking to upgrade my horn and I'm thinking about getting the 62iii. Also, I noticed your hoodie! I went to CSU and WU was in our division I think 🤔
I also have the Vandoren V16 S+. It is solid however if you are looking for something brighter and you like Vandoren, I would suggest a Vandoren Jumbo Java. And by the way, I picked up a YAS 62 Purple Logo about a year ago in good condition for $895. I had it overhauled, completely taken apart and cleaned and re-padded for $500 by the best guy in nashville and now its playing very well. I recently picked up a YAS 61 Purple Logo with an high F# key. It plays and looks like new as well. 62 plays a lot better I guess from the improvements that were made.
Enjoyed the video thanks. The Yamaha is a great find, if you can afford it keep both horns it really helps to avoid second guessing yourself about your gear when your having a bad day you will be able to have another setup to go to, I think 2 quality mouthpieces is a good idea to. God bless. By the way I like the Eastman best lol
MR D that Yamaha sound bright and the Eastman sound more laid back much more of a smooth traditional jazz sound. The Ya for fusion pop will be OK.Try the yani (bronze Body)
I recently purchased one of these and I can only say I regret it so much. Since I received it I have been to 2 repairman and it is a nightmare in the lowest register. The last repair guy just basically told me that this horn will nickel band dime the shit out of me. Very disappointed I never thought Yamaha could mess something up this bad. I also got ripped off and sold cball vintage reborn tenor which just blew this horn away. Should have kept it
This is hilarious man I saw you post on reddit good grab!

Thats GREAT for you!! Congrats!!👍👍👍👍👍 It's gorgeous!! I'm a little jealous, lol! OMG it SOUNDS AMAZING!!!
Thank you so much!!

62 comes with a G1 neck
My 62 is from 1984. The original neck is very different in resistance and tone.
Mine's about the same age. G1 neck came as standard I believe.

@@marktyler3381 not back then. I know someone else with the same horn, same neck as mine. She is also the original owner.

Thanks for a great review, is there any difference between purple logo and without purple logo please
I have a purple logo. Great horn.😊

Awesome and inspiring!
Can you detail the core differences between the yas 82 z and this 62 purple logo? I was looking into buying a 82 and i never played a 62 pl
Congrats! I have a new 62iii great horns.
may i ask :what app you used for “play-along ?” in the vedio?thank you!
Couldn't agree more with the thought that the series ii and iii 62's have been cheapened up! Great find!!!
Should do a follow up after the repair.
Will do. It may be a while though 👀
Demarius, do the yas 62's ALL have a purple logo?? I'm looking atv1 supposed yas 62 but no purple logo. Thank you!!
No...the older models (80’s) have the purple logo...
Only mk 1 model. The most sought after 62. They are more refine and solid build
How often do you find uncommon instruments similar to it?
I really depends...but maybe every 2-3 months or so...
This dude has had the luck of the gods all year, I think great saxes literally fall into his lap from the sky, lol!
I’m still waiting for the Mark VI, 😂

wow they sound totally different! interesting A/B
What’s the mouthpiece setup? Last time I watched a video of yours, you where playing a drake or a Claude lakey.
This is a Vandoren V16 S+...I’m still exploring...I’m searching for a brighter sound!
@@DeMariusJackson i would reccomend what i play on alto, but its a florida slant signature otto link and probably not worth the price tag.

Marius If you want to have a sax that when you blow its sound comes directly to your heart You have to buy an Selmer SBA Alto

Agreed
My dream is to have a sax like this, this model is amazing.
By the way your 62 sounds better to me than the Eastman
That’s what I was thinking too!
Not "better," I'd say, but more complex. BTW, I'm a bit biased: I play a Yamaha 62 purple logo. Great horns, yes.
