The waist length jackets were form fitting. That was on purpose so that it could be worn under the wool overcoat. For warmer weather they had the HBT fatigues, which you see a lot of troops wearing in D Day because it was June, and while France doesn’t get as hot as American summers it probably got warm with all the equipment they had to carry. Layering was the key and very innovative at the time.

so i'm guessing the tankers jacket came before the flight jacket ? they look almost the same.

To be honest I’m not as well versed with flight jackets, but they were developed independently to my knowledge

I was wondering about The US. Infantry uniform jackets after seeing Many different variants in The video game Enlisted! I really do like The combination of darker green Pants, gaitors And light Brown M41 jacket. Theres so much information about wehrmacht And us. paratrooper uniforms, i havent found out so much about normal us. infantry stuff.
A question: did units go into normandy in pretty much mismatched uniforms or did The units Wear strictly similiar uniforms? As an ex infantry NCO myself i know every unit should Have a strictly same uniforms but i also know that isnt really a reality. I wonder If The allies armies saw much effort into it or not?

Great question! Majority of guys coming ashore on D-Day would have either been wearing the wool uniform and M41 jacket or the HBT uniform. There actually was mismatching from time to time, especially since HBT were designed to be worn over the wools, so guys would just take off the jacket and have HBT tops with wool trousers. Most of the time though you see them sticking with one uniform or the other, especially when landing on the beaches.
I play Enlisted too, so I know what you’re talking about. Interestingly enough they included the frogskin camo uniform as a customization option in the Normandy campaign, which I liked since I wear that uniform as part of my Armored Recon impression.

It’s very interesting that why the woman’s jacket buttons up is reversed. The buttons are on the left side while the buttonholes are on the right. That’s a European thing. Americans clothing normally always has the buttonholes on the left side. I wonder what the reason behind that.

It moved to American women's clothing, too. Supposedly it came from the old European aristocracy who would have servants, usually male, button their clothing for them. To make this easier, clothiers would switch which side the buttons were on. This eventually became a status symbol that somebody who owned it was wealthy enough that they paid somebody else to button their clothing for them. Not sure how valid this is but it's the tale I knew

Unfortunately I don’t have one of them at the moment, but I’ll keep that in mind for the future
