Got my 7 year old son started in karts about 8 months ago. I have way more fun watching him progress and making new friends at the track then i ever did racing dirt track. Ive had my fun the last 10+ years now its his turn.

Thomas, you come to Lawrenceburg on a Friday night and we have a UAS kart ,built 450 Honda fuel injection on a dirt round track we'll put you in the seat, just bring your brain bucket and let me know a day or 2 in advance!!
I went there right before their biggest race of the year and I was in a rental cart and the shifter carts were practicing. I was so scared because they passed me going so fast that I knew it was time for me to get out of their way. Spooky for me to see a similar go cart running so much faster than I was able to run in a cart with a governor on the engine.
I think this is the track that is close to Mark Dismore's Comet Kart that has been around for years. From 1988 to mid 90's I raced KT100 Yamaha class on dirt. Smart deal, they run the slower kart class getting to know the tack and surface then step into the Shifter! Thanks for all the camera / edit work, sad if you lost a gopro doing this for us.
I would be an interesting experience for you in a shifter kart, to broaden your setup and driving style. Both Indy and NASCAR have learned to be successful you need to turn left and right.
I don’t think you did them justice. That was bad ass…. When you get back to racing you should go try one of those out for fun and see what your missing
So the 208 class is more a crate class like 604 LM or the 305 in sprint cars, more affordable entry level but tight racing because you can’t get away from each other. Then the shifter kart is more like a super late model or 410 sprint car.
With age , get a cage. No flippin way I'd ever drive one of these things. I'd do a non winged sprint car before I EVER drove a NO cage go kart. To each his/her own.
Statistically speaking, a sprint car is way more dangerous. There are far more fatalities in open wheel sprint cars. Fatalities and even severe life threatening injuries are almost unheard of in sprint karting. And the last thing you want in a kart is to be trapped in it. You want to be separated from the kart in the event of an accident.

Track was big enough so the 125 shifter to stretch its legs a little. Thunderhill in NorCal my friends run them and Sonoma
