    In case this happens to anyone watching, know this:
    -Do *NOT* put water on a grease fire. You will make it worse
    - *DO* cover the pan with a lid or damp towel and take it off the heat. Remember to stay calm and stay safe!
    Edit: to address some of the replies:
    -Absolutely do *NOT* put flour on a fire of any kind. It is quite flammable
    -Baking soda will work for smaller fires, so keep that in mind.
    -Salt _will_ work. It smothers the fire out. I’d still recommend a lid, but if it works, it works.
    -You could also use a fire blanket.
    -just for clarification, be sure you wring out the wet towel, it needs to be damp, not dripping wet. It will essentially work as a knockoff fire blanket.

    • @p_rry
      @p_rry 3 місяці тому +112

      Baking soda works for small grease fires by smothering the fire with carbon dioxide, but it shouldn’t be used for large fires. Typically you should just put a lid on and turn off the heat, but if you plan on cooking a lot, you should do your own research and get a dry powder fire extinguisher / special blanket for these types of fires just in case.
      Never use water for a grease fire. Fires / combustion reactions are sustained by three things: fuel, oxygen, and heat. If you block a fire’s access to at least one of these things, it will be extinguished. Water works to extinguish NORMAL fires by cooling the fire (water absorbs heat very well) and depriving it of oxygen. However, this doesn’t work in grease fires because oil (hydrophobic) does not mix with water (hydrophilic) and so the oil will rise to the top, creating a fireball. Instead, putting the lid on deprives the fire of oxygen, thus extinguishing it.

      @@jonbird6566I was lucky. I was diagnosed with it at 4 yrs of age and was helped with it throughout my early years. Some of the drugs they put on me were great after trial and error and others were just ass and didn't help me at all. Some of the teachers were great and understanding and wanted me to succeed and others weren't. I was on an IEP until 8th grade where I was mostly mainstreamed and I had learned coping mechanisms. Now as an adult in my mid 30s I still have it and it pops out sporadically. It affects a lot of my life. And I find a lot of my coping skills from then don't work as well now. And people are a lot less understanding of my quirks
