I almost bought this system but I opted for the Antarctic sleeping bag, Arctic mat, fleece liner and a SF Bivvy. If I have to carry two separate bags I would rather start with the most extreme cold weather sleeping bag as one of those bags and the other bag is the fleece liner. Canada.

Same here. These set ups seem a lot of hassle.

Go with Carinthia Defence 6 instead. Way better zippers that wont snag on you and also can be ripped open if you need to get out of the sleepingbag fast.

@@Jakelol1980 YKK zippers and center zip on the snugpak. I checked both these sleeping bags before I bought the snugpak because I didn't like the hood closing on the defense 6. Otherwise, both sleeping bags have the same rating and are designed the same.

Only the SF2 bag has a neck baffle. That means if you connect it the way it is demonstrated in the video you can't use the neck battle.

A great tip for any sleeping bag...
Simply run your finger in front of the zip when closing your sleeping bag & this pushes the baffle or access material away from the zip path ;)

Be aware the zips changed at some point from YKK to plain. I think pre 2016 was YKK. Make sure your zippers on both bags are plain or the baffle won't fit as the zip coils are different lengths. I found this out today as I was sold by a UK dealer (not sSugpak) a pre 2016 model SF2 bag that should obviously be post 2016 as its 2022. it won't fit the baffle and SF1 bag. Currently waiting to hear back from Snugpak for some advice.

I'm seriously considering buying the set to replace my Carinthia Sleeping Bag System - so I hope the quality is just as high!

I’ve never handled a carinthia, although I hear great things from those who have, but I CAN speak to the level of quality with the SF bags. They are very well constructed with attention to detail and well thought out in the engineering. It’s hard to describe but they feel very “delicate”, light and soft, but I can tell you the material is durable. It’s a weird paradox but believe it. I came from the USGI MSS which is bomb proof, but also feels like it’s bomb proof and is as heavy as it feels durable. My only complaint with both systems is the noisy (and heavy for the MSS) metal zipper pulls. I cut them off both systems and replaced with gutted paracord pulls. Hope that helps. Cheers!

I guess they don’t come with the bivy bag anymore...

It’s rather strange to me as well the “complete set” doesn’t come with the bivy. Clearly this system is influenced by the USGI MSS which COMES WITH a bivy. At any rate I have the SF1 and SF bivy. I’m happy with them.

I have a question. Can I use a baffle to wide the sf1 and sf2 and then connect them, or shuold I just widen each one for it self, and put bags in one another?

Can you please explain me how to put it back into the transport bag ???

Is it possible to reconfigure with the Antarctica RE over the SF2 in place of the SF1? Our temps this week are in the -40C range, got me thinking. 🤷‍♂️

Will this combination of SF1 bag and SF2 bag fit in the SF Bivy bag? And is the Zipper system sold as a part of the two bags or is the baffle/zipper sold separately?

    • @LaconianConcepts
      @LaconianConcepts 3 роки тому

Yes they both fit the SF bivy bag. It’s very roomy and I have it plus the SF1 to confirm. The baffle is sold separately if you purchase the bags by themselves (like I’ve done), but if you buy the “complete system” it comes with the SF1, SF2, and the baffle. Strangely the complete doesn’t come with the bivy. The bivy is the best part IMO it’s super light, very waterproof, and it does breath. The bags are very will built as well. I really like mine.

Or you put the lighter one inside the thicker one and zip up the outer first and if you want to be even warmer than zip up the inner....like people have always done, and then you dont have to worry about being baffled.

    Not very lightweight.

Compared to the MSS it is. Down is really light and compressible, but it certain climate zones where it is very wet (like the UK where Matt Holland is from) or the western half of the PNW states) sometimes the pros of synthetic outweighs the cons. I only use down here in western WA when I’m in dry cold conditions. Otherwise the SF1/bivy and a liner will suit 90% of my needs. Hydrophobic down is really impressive for sure but I have a use for each tool.
