Time for a change of setup. After many years with the old setup, it's time for a change. This time I'm going with a roof top tent. Check out the video of my build.
Nicely done .the most satisfying thing is when someone asks you what brand is it you can say built it myself. And probably didnt cost that much .im going to convert my box trailer to a camper i found a second hand camper trailer tent. Im going to make it quick removable so i can still have a box trailer when needed.i cringe when i hear the price of some camper trailers. Well done on the build looks really good and surprisingly light 👍
Thank you, Yes i know what you mean, there are some very expensive trailers about. My trailer is a bit rough but the places i take it im sure not to worry about a few dings etc. You have a good idea with your project. Good luck with it cheers Tim
Great video mate. Just subbed too. Getting my camper trailer build done at the moment too with the kings rooftop on the top also thanks for all the tips
Cheers, thank you. Can't go past the kings for the price, and the bonus of being able to leave all your gear inside is a big win. Would like to see a pic of your build when your finished if possible 👍
Thank you, I don't really have any concerns with the rivets, i used the longest ones i could find. Its also just a basic trailer. It has only got leaf springs (eye to eye ) From Huntsman trailers in victoria. under neath it. I think it is a 7 leaf pack. I did remove the smallest leaf not long ago just to soften it up a bit, The axle is a square 45mm rated to 1400kg so nice and solid. 🤙
Great job buddy. I see you have a rooftop tent with its own awning, however you would still get ran landing on top of the trailer and in between the 270 awning, don’t that get everything wet, or do you just close up shop and ride the rain out in bed?
To be honest i haven't been out in a really bad down pour yet. The roof top awning is fairly big and hangs out over the 270 awning below, I think the problem will be when the rain runs down the back of the roof top tent at the back. I was thinking about how to over come that and maybe a flexible gutter of some sort would work. 👍
Hi Pete, The awning is out to the side on some adjustable (slide up, so i can adjust for the height ) bars at each end of the trailer. The rod for the roof top tent side flap or cover , what ever you want to call it , goes into a little plate with a hole in it to hold the rod. I took that off and attached it to the back of the awning channel. Hope that makes sense, cheers Tim
Thanks David. The sizes are a bit odd as i got the trailer a long time ago and has seen a few changes along the way, Anyway it is now 3.3mtr in total length, the tub/box is 130x170 cm and draw bar is 200cm. Total width from mud guard to mud guard is 180 cm wide. Cheers 🤙
Hi Jared , surprisingly better than i thought, I put some of that stick on foam edging stuff around each door and it has been great. Its been in the rain and even when i have pressure washed it at home they have been dry. I did think about putting a bit of a lip or small edge over the top but i have not needed it yet.🤙
Nicely done. Simple, effective and above all bloody light!
Thanks Ben🤙
Thanks for the vid, working on one and it was great seeing how you put the bones together
Thank you, It was a bit of fun working it all out. Good luck with your build 👍👍
Not bad at all.
What an awesome build 😍🏕️ 👍🏽
Cheers, buddy, Bit rough and ready but perfect for where we take it,
Unreal mate. Very talented. Great work
Thank you, I'm happy with how it turned out🤙
Well done mate. Looks great. I like watching DIY projects, you always pick up some good ideas from the builder.
Hi Malcolm , thanks, i do the same thing, always good to get as many idea's as you can , Cheers
Camping isn't supposed to be easy. 🙂 great video. I'm starting my build this summer.
Good luck with your build 🤙
Nice job!
Looks awesome! You could also flip the owning in towards the tent if you’re in tight bush. Might keep it from getting chewed up by branches

Howdy. Looks great, man. Well done. Any concerns with the pop rivets coming loose from vibration? What type suspension have you got under it?

Good on you man, looks very well built! Are able to tell me what the advantages and disadvantages are between the MK3 and MK2 ? Apart from price.
Thanks mate, I think the mk3 looks better and has a better looking shape, you can only buy the mk2 second hand now.🤙

Hey mate how did you attach your 270 awning and still be able to use the awning pole for your roof top tent??😊
