A blind Doctor could be a first for Who, I can't recall it happening before and it could make for a very interesting episode. Of course, they'll fix it pretty sharpish, probably by the end of that episode but it's still a neat thing to do.
There have been 2 cases of blindness in DW before. In classic who, one of the companions went blind for only a few minutes due to trauma of some sort but was quickly rectified... Then there was that one from the Crimson Horror episode.... As far as I know, that's it!! I'm honestly so excited!! (I'm visually impaired and feel like it was done really well, a rarity in mainstream TV)
+pianobooks42 Aah yes, I'd forgotten that bit in The Crimson Horror, although it was also sorted out fairly quickly whereas this time it's crossing episodes. I was only really referring to the Doctors as a first, not the companions, but here's hoping they give us something on a par with Vincent An The Doctor, but for visual impairment. Is the next one Mark Gatiss's episode?
+Carenxe AStromas Cheers. I don't usually find out who wrote an episode until I see it in the intro credits. I'd heard Gatiss was writing one this season so I wondered if it was him as he did such a wonderful job on Vincent. Didn't know it was a 3-parter either.
Loved how vulnerable the doctor feels in this episode, he has the screwdriver broken early on, gets blinded and his companion dies (almost) lead to a real feeling of tension during the conclusion.
headbite alien He was weakened arbitrarily at the start. The suits inexplicably developed magnet hands that have no reason to exist on a mining station, the doctors screwdriver takes way longer than normal to stunt down the suit and bill being resurrected was just stupid. Then the doctor was blinded which I am fine with, but instead of instantly curing it by going to new New York he chooses to just roll with it.
DBGNIHD I think he'd be far better than Chibnall. I've adored 3/4 of Mathieson's episodes bit I only like 42 of what Chibnall's done I do have hope though
The doctor is blind? He should have come to Mondas for conversion If the Doctor can't fix this himself which is aimed at that he will, we may be able to arrange something. Any humans who would like to be converted can come to Mondas. You shall be like us.
Perhaps his sonic glasses project a sonic impulse to his brain enabling him to see what the glasses do. Or maybe because he is the Doctor he can walk around just fine without seeing through his eyes. Maybe he can see some other way?
Short and easy premise with amazing twists but I think the stakes are still rising by each episode and this is a great addition to series 10 like the previous episodes. Looking forward to the next episode!
Omg when the Doctor said "I'm still blind" I literally freaked out. I can't wait until the next episode - can't wait to see Missy!! I hope the Doctor doesn't stay blind though
i think doctor who should turn from a kids show to a more teenage, young adult show with less limitations on violence and gore and languade. I know torchwood is an option but i would like it to be the main show.
if The Doctor going blind wasn't a sign he's gonna regenerate at the end of the season, idk what is. what a breath taking ending, wasn't expecting that AT ALL. I hope becoming blind won't take from The Doctor's humor & make him darker & more sad. this episode was really brave for The Doctor & Bill, I cried my eyes out as she found out he went blind for her. I am still letting it all in. definitely an unexpected turning point. HOPEFULLY we will get some Missy next week. got stuff coming up. 10/10
Firstly I like the image of suits walking around with there now dead occupants along for the ride. Very creepy! However there is a throwaway line as one of the sections starts to decompress, I was never entirely certain whether an occupant of the decompressing section is blown or sucked into space(and yes I know the space suits have magnetic boots)
GUYS THE DOCTOR & BILL GOT SUCH SPECIAL CONNECTION AND IF THIS EPISODE WASN'T A PROOF FOR THAT IDK WHAT IS THE DOCTOR REALLY LOVES BILL AS MUCH AS SHE LOVES HIM I AM SO DAMN GLAD PEARL WAS CHOSEN AS A COMPANION
My Review On Oxygen (Spoilers) Great Episode! It had me on the edge of my seat most of the time. Also quite scary, not really scary. But scary. The story kind of felt like Smile in the way that the enemies kill people. They really opened it up for the next episode at the end. 'I can't see, I'm still blind'. Very interesting story, at the end where The Doctor brought back Bill but nobody else felt a bit unfair. I mean, they didn't need much oxygen, they could have made it. But that's just my opinion. Very good story, very similar to Smile tho, but at the same time very different! Can't wait for the next episode. Rating: G23 8.3/10
UNKNOWNCURSE He only 'brought back' Bill because she wasn't dead like the others, her suit didn't have enough power to kill her, just render her immobile - the others were dead, he couldn't save them.
I am personally much more invested in watching this fan show, when the episodes are as good as this one. As in, I've watched this three times already, while I've yet to finish last week's one.
In Smile they get killed because the machines believe sadness is a disease In Oxygen the company wants to kill the people because Oxygen is too expensive for them. Seems quite different
In smile the robots were to blame due to the fact that as you said they though sadness was a disease and so dealt with it accordingly by eliminating the people who experienced grief. Here, the spacesuits were programmed 'to save the oxygen that they were wasting' by the company. Although not the same concept, its a similar thing.
Yeah the miniature creatures from smile in Knock Knock were very similar of a concept, as they both were in the environment of the structure of the building.I think they seem to be adding on extra stuff to the same foundations of a concept and make it a new episode. Seems to be some sort of pattern between each 'villain'.
I think its Jon simms Master in the Vault, as it looks like Time lord writing all over the vault and also the Knocking from the vault went up to 4 in the other episode, 4 knocks was his thing,,so think its him.
Say I take 20 breaths per minute and 12 per minute whilst sleeping i sleep for 8 hours per 24 hours this is 42 hours per week, which is 2520 minutes. That is 30125 breaths 16 hours of non sleep per day, which is 112 hours per week, which is 6720 minutes. That is 134400 breaths The episode starts a 10 minutes later than this episode. That is 40 breaths per minute due to anticipation. which is 400 breaths, All together that is 164925 breaths until the start of oxygen to the start of extremis. :D
It's good that they were as accurate as possible with the science behind being exposed to space. however got to ask is it being sucked into space, all being blown into space?
I noticed, however if you are in a station that is contained in a vacuum. Is the air and anything else not secured sucked into the vacuum, or blown into space. There is an episode of Star Trek the next generation that one of the characters stipulate the point I am simply opening this up to the hive mind
No!! The doctor cannot simply be blind!!! Never again he will see all of time and space. Never again will he see so many people that he will care about, love and miss. 😓😓😓
The episode was a devastating critique of capitalism; I will now be sure to vote for Corbyn and his Stalinist mates! Just kidding, but seriously it was a great episode, way above my expectations. This, and e01, are my two faves of the series so far.
Corbyn's far from a Stalinist...Stalin never offered free hospital car parking for a start! Most of the Socialists I've talked to say he isn't Left-wing enough. Definitely more of a critique of Theresa May's philosophy than an appraisal of Corbyn's. Anyway I really wasn't keen on The Pilot although I liked the setup Moffat's weak writing just puts me off. Smile and Thin Ice were my favourites although I thought they both had flaws. Not sure where I'd rank this one, needs a bit more time.
Flatline, Mummy on the Orient Express and now Oxygen. I think Moffat should rethink about the next showrunner. Not meaning that Chris Chibnall is a bad writer, but Jamie Mathieson has written brilliant episodes!
What you guys think? I think the doctor could be blind until he regenerates but I'm not sure. It could make for a very interesting season considering where not even half way through it yet!
UNKNOWNCURSE, if he does he wont STAY blind because he can just regenerate. I mean we know he has a new regeneration cycle so why cant he do what the 10th doctor did in his first episode and grow a new pair of eyes? edit: actually but at the same time he may be permanently blind, because if he can use regeneration energy to fix his eyes, why hasn't he done already?
+All Things Paper If you referring to when the 10th Doctor lost his hand in the sword fight and regrew a new one, then he could only do that because the regen was still fresh and active so it simply continued to fix him. That's not true of the 12th Doctor and the new regen cycle won't help because he'd have to go through a full regeneration to get new eyes (I assume). The only other time he's used regen energy to heal was on River (not himself) and that's when he knew that he had no more regens left, so using up leftover energy wouldn't make any difference. I'm sure they'll find another way around it next episode, they just want to play a little bit with a blind Doctor and have some fun with it. It might be a first for Who but i could be wrong.
I'm so happy! It just finished premiering here in the US a half hour ago, and I'm still crying happy tears! My main question.. can't he just use his.. Y'know.. regeneration energy to heal his wounds? Still, this is the reason Series 10 has been so good.. they are hiring writers and not Steven ;w; thank god
Thank you! So glad I watched it and last Saturday's episode, not sure which one I prefer though ;-) Just kidding! I loved Oxygen, the episodes get better and better!
Something like this could easily happen if socialism ran rampant where the government rationed breathable air, and you had to buy it from the government to just breath.
I would love to have been one of the dead zombies. I played on in a local theater and they said I was the only one who did not break character. lol Did I say I would have done it for free? lol
Y-17 trauma harnesses. totally. i guess these dudes don't play a lot of video games, and if they did i guess they skipped fallout new vegas and the dlc for old world blues. Hell even if they did know super cross over, to toss that type of thing into this story. *** also his hair is like sophie's hair in howl's moving castle. it is like starlight and it is beautiful.
Yea because when no one can see them they aren't stone. If you look back in Series 3 'Blink' the Doctor says "Its the curse of the angles" and in the end of the episode they make all the angles face each other so they are all looking at each other not being able to move and become unstone.
So.... the Doctor takes down Capitalism and the air is shared around for the greater good?...... This ladies blokes & non binary folks is what we call TIMING!!!!! :D
THE LAST TIMELORD it doesn't make I bad if Daleks aren't in. There's no more Daleks this season, and I think it's good that there not being used as much
Hopefully Jamie Mathieson will run the show one day. One day.
I think the actors did such a great job and that twist at the end! it was amazing!!! I love it!!! I soooooooo can't wait until next week!
Fire1411 Same! I can't believe he's blind!

Then the doctor was blinded which I am fine with, but instead of instantly curing it by going to new New York he chooses to just roll with it.
OMG keep Jamie making more Doctor Who episodes!!! Nothing bad about this episode! Right up there with favourite episodes!!!!
Also love the actors in the episode and in real life. I could listen to Jamie all day! And Cristal makes me laugh all day!
This episode was Mind blowing :O so excited for the next one dammmm :O
At the end , i was really "Out of the breath" badum tss
Jamie Mathieson for showrunner after Chibnall!
DBGNIHD I think he'd be far better than Chibnall. I've adored 3/4 of Mathieson's episodes bit I only like 42 of what Chibnall's done I do have hope though
Oxygen was AMAZING. I truly believe it is by far the best episode in series 10 so far.
The Doctor Same!
The Doctor I agree
Well if you say so, it simply must be true ;)
The Doctor The doctor has a time machine and new earth has the cure for everything. There is no reason for the doctor to stay blind.
Manly Man Emperor Of Mankind yeah but it's doing new stuff taking the character to new places which Moffat rarely does
brilliant fan show interview, as always.
Chancellor Zimolo Yup!
Thank you Chancellor Zimolo! 🙈
Why Thank You Too! You've just made my day! 😄
Just got done on that episode! Amazing!
I really LOVE your Fan Show!
the blindness is such a good plot twist, such an interesting turn of events. Blindness is one of my biggest fears
The doctor being blind reminded me of 42 when the 10th doctor technically got blinded by the sun.
Idea stolen from Star Trek TNG?
Paul Charles Morris I do not understand what the meaning of this statement is
This episode reminded me of 'The Mummy on the Orient Express' episode due to the ending where the Doctor stops everything at the very last second.
I can see a very emotional scene with The Doctor confessing his permanent lost of sight to Bill next week.
"I'm still blind" - The Doctor
This was a really good episode!
Will the Doctor's sonic sunglasses provide a sort of bat-like echolocation?
I like how they use a fan made trailer made by VG934 at the end.
Peter is the best freaking Doctor to date. FIGHT ME.
Short and easy premise with amazing twists but I think the stakes are still rising by each episode and this is a great addition to series 10 like the previous episodes. Looking forward to the next episode!

This was honestly one of the greatest episodes of new who in my opinion. The ending blew me away, 9.5/10 from me.
It was a fantastic episode! I cannot wait for the next one
The end blew a massive black hole in my head.

OMG OMG OMG OMG WAS THAT THE MASTER AT THEN END OF THE NEXT TIME TRAILER!?!?!?!?!
Benjamin Wilson-Donnelly nope, missy
yes, that was...
:D :D :D :D
One of the best episode of 10 season.
Go Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 and South Africa 🇿🇦 Yay Mimi !!!

in the witch's familiar the doctor is able to summon regeneration energy for davros so why can't he do it for his eyes? am I missing something?
THIS EPISODE WAS WAY TOO GOOD, I DON'T WANT THE DOCTOR TO GO!
best episode since heaven sent easily.
and that twist at the end though!
move over moffat...
No one's talking about the breaths until next episode just about the last few second of this episode.
THIS EPISODE WAS FANTASTIC WHAT ABOUT YOU
LETS GET SOME LIKES
THE LAST TIMELORD I loved it too!
THE LAST TIMELORD He's still blind! :O

I loved this ep It's going to be interesting to see the doctor blind for awhile
this Episode was brilliant and fantastic I really enjoyed it
The reason for the deaths was so similar of a concept from Smile I thought.
In Smile they get killed because the machines believe sadness is a disease
In Oxygen the company wants to kill the people because Oxygen is too expensive for them.
How? In Smile they were skeletonized due to misunderstanding. In Oxygen they get their nerves turned off because of capitalism.
Yeah the miniature creatures from smile in Knock Knock were very similar of a concept, as they both were in the environment of the structure of the building.I think they seem to be adding on extra stuff to the same foundations of a concept and make it a new episode. 7:00 It's got that Alien vibe to it ;)
The ending really hit me hard 0_0
I think its Jon simms Master in the Vault, as it looks like Time lord writing all over the vault and also the Knocking from the vault went up to 4 in the other episode, 4 knocks was his thing,,so think its him.
Not saying it is, but he could be helping Simm acclimatize to his body after Super Speedy Master from End of Time.
I AM NOT BREATHING BETWEEN EPISODES! DOCTOR WHO I AM TOO SHOOK! Thank you I win goodbye
My favourite episode of the revived series post 2005
Wow, this episode showed me how much I care about the doctor, tears wanted to come out when seeing him dealing with being blind
Say I take 20 breaths per minute and 12 per minute whilst sleeping
i sleep for 8 hours per 24 hours
this is 42 hours per week, which is 2520 minutes. That is 30125 breaths
16 hours of non sleep per day,
which is 112 hours per week, which is 6720 minutes. That is 134400 breaths
The episode starts a 10 minutes later than this episode. That is 40 breaths per minute due to anticipation. which is 400 breaths,
All together that is 164925 breaths until the start of oxygen to the start of extremis.
:D
the episode was great - the doctors blind cant get over it
What is the significance of River Song's diary being shown in the preview of next weeks show?
Easter Egg! Like every other nod to previous adventures, they are a distraction from the poor scripts!
Anyone else think of the Vashta Nerada in this ep?
so protect the vault could mean one of two things. protect earth from what's in the vault, or protect whatever is in the vault from earth. thoughts?
between 160320 to 161280 breaths @DoctorWhoFanShow
I can't believe he's blind!! 😱
Can't wait for Extermis. I feel like that episode is, somehow, gonna top Oxygen.

It's good that they were as accurate as possible with the science behind being exposed to space. however got to ask is it being sucked into space, all being blown into space?
allistair61 Their boots lit up, implying they were magnetic so they didn't get sucked out.
Flatline, Mummy on the Orient Express and now Oxygen. I think Moffat should rethink about the next showrunner. Not meaning that Chris Chibnall is a bad writer, but Jamie Mathieson has written brilliant episodes!
Did anyone else notice how we saw the same blue alien species on PLATFORM ONE 😱😱 CALLBACK TO SERIES 1 AHHH 💙💙💙
XDspacemanJD Oh yeah. There were two.
He should have been the showrunner for season 11
NO OH MY GOD I AM SHOCKED. AND TERRIFIED. Is it just me or is everyone hyperaware of every breath you're taking?
i am so excited for moffat and Michelle next week, i feel like its gonna be sassy!!
What you guys think?
I think the doctor could be blind until he regenerates but I'm not sure. It could make for a very interesting season considering where not even half way through it yet!
I can't believe the doctor is blind 😱😱😱😱😱
so, the doctor is blind, what do we think?
goofy toast omg, I hope he doesn't stay blind!
UNKNOWNCURSE, if he does he wont STAY blind because he can just regenerate. I mean we know he has a new regeneration cycle so why cant he do what the 10th doctor did in his first episode and grow a new pair of eyes?

I'm so happy! It just finished premiering here in the US a half hour ago, and I'm still crying happy tears! I'm visually impaired, and I realize many people won't like this turn of events, but personally I feel so honored! And it was done so well under the circumstances! Of course, I could nitpick little details, but the biggest thing we've been fighting for for YEARS is that we want characters who struggle with disability but whose disability doesn't define them. And this episode showed that SO WELL. Even if they "fix" it next episode, I'll be a bit sad, but mostly so happy that this happened at all. I've been begging for a disabled doctor for years, and you have no idea how much it means to me (and so many others) that this has happened -even if only for a short time!
What happened to the rest of the crew who weren't in the tardis at the end?
Xxxmayhem Xxx They sacrificed their oxygen tanks, remember?
UNKNOWNCURSE yeah well I thought since they saved Bill why couldn't they save the crew as well
nah, bill wasn't dead
EvilSludge the others weren't dead were they? I mean they all got zapped so why couldn't they be saved
Bill's suit didn't have enough power to kill her when she got zapped, the other crew's suits did so they died
Last time i was this early this joke was still funny
do you know when the series will coming in France ?
Phineus Mikey yes. But in France now the new series came very fast
I already know how many breaths. 0. I'm already there.
What a brilliant episode, who agrees?
Me. It my me cry😢
well if the thing in the vault is so bad why does he go eat with it?
ZeroVsGames Yeah! I wonder what it is?
it can be missy, she is bad to the world but good to the doctor because missy's master remembers their childhood memories.
what ever is in there must be the minister of war (i hope)
All Things Paper or john sim ya know cause he was the master and he was shown to be in this series next to a piano and there was a piano in the vault
I wonder how the episodes will work with a blind Doctor?
19:18 Getting enough oxygen to stay alive? XD
I think about 3...
No, 4 breaths
Or maybe 5
I give up
Michelle Gomez isn't the queen of evil she's the high mistress of all evil... or possibly the chief mistress. I'm not sure
Again a very *CREEPY*, but *FANTASTIC* Episode!!!!
My main question.. can't he just use his.. Y'know.. regeneration energy to heal his wounds? Still, this is the reason Series 10 has been so good.. they are hiring writers and not Steven ;w; thank god
Has everyone forgotten that the fifth Doctor suffered no ill effects at all from mucking about in space without a suit?
Four to Doomsday? He had a helmet on! A special helmet!
how did they get the tardis out at the end and if he could of saved bill why didn't he save the others
Olivia Considine he could only save bill because she wasn't in that condition for long, the others were
Oh ok. thank you for telling me
Olivia Considine np
im am still in shock the doc is blind :'(
THAT AWFUL MOMENT WHEN YOU REALIZE WE GOT A WHOLE WEEK AHEAD TILL NEXT EPISODE
Anyone know where to find the video by bg934?

who calls their plant bob -.- thats obiously a "groot"
what a mess! Why can't the Doctor use regeneration energy to repair his eyes when he used it to heal River broken wrist?
Paul Charles Morris Because plot device
Just like Davros, he chooses not to use them!
Explained in the next episode
@@has199 Remind me.
lol if the next episode was the Weeping Angles the Doctor would be dead XDDD
I'm not so sure, because if your eyes are open I don't know they could tell the difference.
