If you tee into the other vent line, moisture will also travel to the other fan. Venting into the attic is bad news, mold etc., each one needs it's own external vent.
I totally agree. I would also use insulated exhaust fan tubing, preferably rigid. And also get the other piece of that roof vent.
A back draft damper in line would probably also work but agree with the insulated ducting and correct mounting
Dnt feel bad Chet my stepfather was hanging from our attic half body in the attic half body in our dining room we told him to put some plywood on the floor for the same reason that he was going to end up falling through but didn't listen, also we have back draft blockers and have not had any issues with moisture or mold build up in our washrooms exhaust fans
I didn’t think you were sposed to put the vent directly above the shower but I dunno
Put it on a GFCI circuit
You know what Chet DIY home remodel has its ups and downs, crap happens you live and learn. Don't let it get to you too much.
Chet, you need to get each of those exhaust pipes routed to an external vent. Note I wrote each. Do not use a Tee, as the air will backflow to whichever one is not running, thus putting the moist air back into the other bathroom. That needs to be done ASAP! That moisture in the attic is BAD.
As for a misstep onto the ceiling, as an electrician in an earlier life, I did several of those... Nothing that can't be fixed. And always remember, anyone who never made a mistake never did ANYTHING.
Or add a second fan after the Tee, to suck the air from both bathrooms.
The power is at the switch for the light. Enlarge the switch opening to accommodate a two gang electrical box. Remove the single gang box. Install a 4" x 4" electrical remodel box in the opening. Run the fan wire to the the two gang. Connect the fan to the circuit, then connect that wire to the new switch for the fan. Now secure the two switches to the 4 x 4 box. Presto Chango...done.
The vent should discharge in the soffit.
DUDE YOUR JUST TRYING TO MAKE HIM CLIMB BACK INTO THAT MISERABLE ATTICE, STOP IT
@@zerodarkthirty180 But extra visits to the attic mean extra video's.
Duplex switch. Two switches, one box.
You are assuming the neutral is in the original sw. box. It may not be.
One day you will have a beautiful home by the lake
Do not panic.
The only people that don’t make mistakes are those that don’t do anything.
👍👍👍
Ya know... I think you did a great job... I grew up on a Ranch. Learned how to run a tractor and drive a Semi @ 8. @ 9 sink electric poles and run telephone and 12.5 Kv electric lines. Built my first house @ 12. Ya know... You're not doing it right if you don't drop parts and screws. The higher you are on a ladder, depends on how important the screws and parts you drop. I've seen men who have built over 200 homes go right through a ceiling. Again, you were awesome... Thank you for being secure enough to show your viewers all the real challenges and how human we all are when doing a DIY project.
Hey Chet,
I did not see any blood. You did not have to go to the emergency room. I would say you had a good day.😊
That is your attic vent fan that should be run off of a thermostat in that box that it is connected to so it should be automatic. It is for in the summer to vent the heat out of your attic to help reduce cooling costs and keep the heat down in your attic.
Also clean the build up off the motor housing!
My brother and I were insulating and he went through the kitchen ceiling. LOL
Hi Chet, this is Rosemary. I used to work at a Papermill and do insulation all the time. I just wanted to give you a little tip of information anytime you’re doing insulation take baby powder and put it on your bare skin anyplace and then the fiberglass will not go into your pores bounces right off
Great tip!
Thanks I did not know that
Wow thanks!! I never heard of that solution that’s a game changer!!! That’s such a great idea thanks again.
Be grateful that you didn't fall thru the ceiling and it's just a little repair. Nice job well done
The gray box next to the attic ventilation fan is a thermostat. The black screw adjusts the temperature it comes on at. There may be a breaker for it in the main panel or a switch somewhere. The vents on the motor for it need cleaning.
😲😲a DYI gone wrong? As a newly wed Couple you "survived" and worked this out. BRAVO! This is a testament as to how future "projects" will turn out. 👍👍😎😎✝✝
We Learn More from our Mistakes! Power On Farmer's! IN OUR DNA 😂❤😂
Chet needs a hug!😊
If you’re already going to be fishing a wire up why don’t you just go over and fish a wire down to where the switch is now take the cover off enlarge the hole put a double switch box and pull power from one line to the second switch pull a wire up and over ….you’re pulling wires anyway.
Never vent to attic! moisture breeds mold!
It's not a true project unless at least 3 trips to the hardware store are completed. You are doing well. Keep you chin up and keep going! You are making memories building a home! You will not remember what went right but you will always remember what went wrong! No one was hurt and it can be repaired. Great work!
Yep been there done that. Found the same thing in my attic fan install. Your doing fine. Projects never go as planned😅
Three trips in the SAME DAY, if you are ME !!! LOL
Nice job, however, the bath fan should be GFI protected.
GFCI breaker needs to be installed if there is not one there already. Your doing great there are 100s of ways to complete a job. But always remember safety is number 1. Wearing you mask is very important glad you did that. I often fail in that department. 😢Thanks for being a good example for all of us.
Thank you Chet. I miss this kind of content since Nicole. Thanks again
Love it, two videos in 1 day
Was just about to comment this
When Jean asked if this was a joke. I lost it! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
She’s funnier than she thinks she is😂
It will give you something to talk about in the future. You are not the only one with things like that, that's life.
Happens to the best of us man.
If you are going to be in the house for a while, buy a 4x8 sheet of osb, cut it into 4 sections 2x4 ft. Stick the sections up in the attic, use it to build moveable wailkways and work platforms. Really cutes down on falling thru the ceiling. Admire the try
My brother in law fell through the ceiling during our kitchen remodel. No big deal, crap happens. Thanks for the video.
Like to see the Big Swede get into the attic, great job. Love your go to attitude. People that don’t make mistakes don’t do anything.
Great attitude, Chet! Love the remodel video…the Larsons crew’s attitude is what keeps me coming back.
Not to bring up a sad subject but it's a good memory.
I remember when we watched, loved and laughted at your first remodel videos with Nikki. That was a big job but the rooms turned out really nice.
That bead stuff could be asbestos, be careful.
Good luck Chet, you have more
balls than I got 😆
That old DIY is such fun! Great job and video.
I think you done an awesome job considering ALL the things that could have went wrong! You could have fallen all the way through the ceiling but you didn’t do it so Yay that is a
WIN! You may not have successfully been able to rig your light together but you did yay! That is a win! Not many people could survive small places, insulation and fishing wires out! That is a WIN!! It’s all about perspective!! Everything that happens in our lives that we think is so awful usually pails into comparison to other people problems which have much worse. So we all have days that overwhelm us but if we make it through them to live another day than we are a winner and thank you Lord because we are way ahead of the game! Y’all got this! Hang on!!
Need a Clark W Griswold shirt. The one where he steps through the attic to the bunk bed. 😂😂
You have an attic fan. Pretty common item. The box you were pointing to is the thermostat that runs that fan. It probably kicks in when the attic temperature hits about 110 degrees. It blows the hot air out so your air conditioner doesnt have to work so much in the summer time. The only problem with not having the vents go directly outside is condensation in the winter.
You Duggo and the big Swede need to have more videos like this of the other things that happen in your life.
Also you need to group the videos of each of you together into different playlists
Don’t sweat it Chet! Poop happens.
For your vent tubes, it’s preferable to use insulated tubing in an attic (in northern climates) since the humidity will condense and freeze on the inside of the pipe and next shower the warm air will melt the ice in the vent pipe and rain cold water on you. Ask me how I know. 😂
Love the home Reno videos. Jean is a hoot too - “can I get my mom to do this?”
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
That's the joys of home remodeling. Struggle bus is real.
Good on you for doing it!! You saved yourself so much money and you learnt something new. Never give a man heck who tries!
VERY, VERY difficult remodel project that you made look so much easier than it was. WELL DONE young man !
Thanks for showing your human side. Better luck next time! House looks remodeled great!👍👍👍
Great video Chet
you should really use the insulated vent pipe for the outlet, in the winter with warm moist air in the pipe, and freezing outside the pipe, condensation will form and make it's way back into the fan
I can't count the number of times I've laid in itchy blown-in fiberglass insulation! Many electric additions and upgrades! Security camera system install. Chasing a raccoon out of my attic! And all in HOT Houston. It's no fun! But so rewarding when it's done!
Probably my favorite electrical addition is the photocell attached to the front porch light. Night time comes, and the light automatically turns on. Sunrise, and it turns off. No more forgetting and leaving it on all day!
Good job on the bathroom remodel. Don’t sweat the mistakes. My old boss, Bill Carlson back in the 70s said if you don’t make a mistake once in a while you’re not doing enough work! I told him I must be the hardest working SOB that he’s ever known then with all the mistakes that I made.
Good luck! Hang in there. Thank you for sharing.
I did the same thing when i was about 25 or 30. Hang in there buddy. The fan looks great. good job
It’s these little opps that makes you appreciate the smooth days😂
Chet you can put 2 switches in a single box like you have there one for light one for fan, the only difference is they toggle side ways rather than up and down works awesome for refits
I just love you guys and its nice you let us follow along
Good video brings back memories. I must of been 12 helping my dad string wire in an attic, slipped and fell in between the rafters to the floor below. Now I’m extra cautious when working in attic.
Keep up the great work Chet and more house videos please
Nice job Chet looks great.
Nice seeing your remodeling projects. Great seeing your beautiful wife helping out too.
Seeing your attic just made me feel at home. Been an electrician for years. Spent a lot of time in attics.
Talking from experience, the toughest test on any marriage - home renovations.
Especially ones that you do yourself.
Chet you are learning so many things to avoid when you guys finally built your dream home on your new property. Wish you the best.
Maybe he will move to the farm and take over Merlin's house once grandma and grandpa are gone.
Welcome to life this is all the things we have all come across ! I have 110 year old house ! Live in it for 45 years ! We have and old saying home moaner ! Keep up the faith !😊
You did a good job doing that bathroom vent even though you had a little accident. Almost falling through the ceiling but you know what everybody makes mistakes and it's a little accident. No harm, no fall. Good job❤
You are really a trooper, Chet! You persevered until you got it done, even after having to improvise for missing parts. At least you didn't fall all the way through the ceiling! It's fixable & you didn't get hurt, except your pride.😉 The house we bought & lived in for over 47 years was built in 1955 & went until 2021 before it had an exhaust fan in the bathroom. Never had any problems with moisture or mold. Good job!
House is looking nice!👍
You got it. Chet. Adapt and over come. When all parts not included. Love your content. God Bless
Installing bathroom fans into older homes that never had them is a serious pain in the ass.. I did two of them and I pray they never quit because I am not going back into the attic to change them if they do. Good job and glad you found that other vent not connected to the outside.
Chet, the tee in the duct will not work without flapper check valves tightly sealed. The air will blow through the path of least resistance so it.will blow from one.bathroom to the other. If both fan seals are tight then only one at a time can be used as the fan will not have enough force.to lift seal against oncoming air. They also make remote Bluetooth fans that require no wiring.
Chet, you are amazing
You are a much better carpenter than I am. Keep at it, things will get done. 😀
Chet looks Beautiful good job
One thing to remember, we have all been there. Oops is going to happen. Smile & keep going
Good luck to you & your wife during your reno, you will be very proud when done
Thanks for not cutting that out of your film. You’re awesome.
You are teaching as you go. Thank you!
Chet, don't sweat it man. When you said Big Swede I literally started laughing thinking of him in that attic. He'd have been sprawled on the floor. As for the brother in law, let's just say we would've respected him cause he's your brother in law. Well that's gone now, hope we never meet him.
You can cut that tar paper away from the holes from the underside. If that flapper isn't leaking just put up a square hole to round tubing adapter on the underside. Use liquid nails instead of nailing or screwing upward through the roof boards. You did great brother, take care.
Be sure to let that fan run at least 20 min after you shower until you can replace the exhaust hose with insulated hose. Sorry
about the hall ceiling, happens to the best of us. Fan and light combo looks great!
Love the remodel vidios!
Thanks for the videos!
Love the Larson DIY home projects, such drama!
Love the videos
Great content!
You the Man !!
The struggle is real! It happens to all of us! 😂😀🍻
Digging the remodel videos. Was helping my cousin put ply wood in his attic for access to his air handler and he fell completely thru the ceiling into his son’s crib. No one was hurt. After words I laughed so hard. Crap happens tho.
By the way, your personal comments are classic. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
Good work Chet!
Love the video
Nice Job Chet!
If you don't try, you don't make mistakes. Pretty decent problem solving, all things considered.
Great work young man
Bless you Chet
Another great video!
GOOD JOB CHET!!
You guys are awesome,,I love watching you take care of business. Keep your tech inthe wind.
thanks for the video
Good job!!
great video
Chet you work hard and save a lot of money doing things yourself. Glad you didn't get hurt. The exhaust fan turned out really nice.
really enjoy your videos chet.
Thank you Chet for the video!
Nice humbling job !
Thank you Chet for sharing, love watching the renovations well done.
Been There, Did That. My condolences to your ceiling, and sorry for the plone's Autocorrect (or Autocorrupt) 😊
Chet your doing a great job
Always entertaining whether it be farming or home projects.
There are two types of home DIYers. Those who have gone through the celling, and those who will. I missed the step coming out of the attic when I had a live squirrel in a trap in my hand. That was a fun one!
Love the remodel.videos. Jean is a sweetheart. House looks amazing. The pups look pretty spoiled too. :)
Good job Chet!! No worries, a year from now both of you will chuckle about the great bathroom fan installation!!!
