Assuming that a lot of those who frequent these videos are guitar-types, this argument may be invalid. However, in synthesis for the grittier genres of electronic music as well as the blend between it and rock, ring modulation can create the most powerful of timbres. Combining it with a dynamic instrument like a guitar and including automatic pitch tracking opens a world of possibility.
Very, very cool - I must pick one up soon. Reminds me of my youth, stopping by EHX on 23rd St in NYC. Mike always had all his latest gadets on display - I loved the 48th St store, walk in off the street & try out everything in sight. Gotta love EHX!
This seems like perhaps the most well-thought out Ring Mod
I have seen yet. Certainly you would not use this on every song.... but what is cool is to combine some OD/ Distortion w/ the the RM - then you get into some really out-there sounds- kinda surprised EH didn't include that in this pedal- tho they do give you the pitch-shift thing- that is nice. Gotta hand it to EH- they never take the predictable approach!!
It is utterly fantastic. You can spice up your sound so much, make it interesting and more alive. I have owned it for two months or so, every time I discover new sounds. The preset feature is one you can't miss. They change every week... lately I hooked up a Line6 FM4 to it, the modulator makes it very, very fat...!! With delay, chorus or a Q filter it will just blow your mind. BUY IT!!!
groovin on the blues through the ring mod...brilliance at its most brilliant
My favourite EHX pedal 🤙
This thing + delay = tripping balls
This is a jazz players golden egg right here!! I'm also considering trying to use it for working SSB ham radio satellites; as a portable SSB transceiver is extremely expensive.
It's a late '70s Strat body and pickups with a custom four-bolt neck, Kahler trem and a refinish by C. Mirabella.
I am a big fan of EHX pedals, so innovative and affordable. Just bought quite a few of them last month. Should have watched this before buying the POG2 (which is a great pedal itself). Thanks EHX!
I like how he plays the theme song to Doug for the ring mod demo.
...except that he doesn't...go listen to the Doug theme again...sure, they're both major pentatonic, but that's just five notes...
I ordered this last week. With any luck I might be able to try it tomorrow. Easily the most exciting pedal by EHX at the moment (being a sucker for Ring Modulation), and that is not to say little since I definitely would consider buying most of them.
Hopefully I'll get to making a video and posting it soon.
I alsa bought the White Finger compressor with should be a nice complement.
Always the best!
Bravo EH! I was wondering when we would see the rebirth of the Freq Analyizer.
Although I'd sugguest making a shorter version of this video.
Coming to think of it, Squarepusher uses a ring mod quite a lot on his bass, and he's got it to do some really crazy awesome stuff. Proof that you make great music with a ring mod. You never know, he'd probably like this :)
holy shit at the LFO control....i need this now.
Nice demo - thanks. This one seems more versatile than most but I've yet to find a worthwhile way of using mine (GX700) except slow trem.
nice strat, l noticed the Kahler ;)
i have a
Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy Analog Delay on my wish list from amazon... i really like the sound effects!!
Weird. I like it.
ah ya...play dem blues with the ring thing as if you were on the jetsons
Its an 80's or 90's strat with a Kahler tremolo. They used to have a setup where the lock nut went behind the regular nut for better intonation and to make it easier to match the fretboard radius.
Lurve EHX pedals!
Yo. I've owned 4 and about to purchase another 2.
Just thought everyone here should know that.
love it at 5:30, makes me want to get it, sounds sort of like watching sattelites, if that makes any sense
Dear EHX, your creativity and innovation is unparalleled. And for the guitarist you make everything,"Thanks for that" I was wondering since every product you introduce is absolutely outstanding, have you consider making a Theremin? I truly believe if you produced it, it would be unlike any other ever made, probably have an expansion pedal output on it. just wondering.Your biggest fan Steve!!!
Thank you Steve! Sorry no plans right now for a Theremin.
I would immediately buy a EXH Theremin
I woiuld buy it too
Cool effect- I would like to hear this behind a Deluxe Big Muff.
Hi ! The pitch effects sound really good ! Could you explain what are the differences in this area between the micro pog and the ring thing ?
How would you say the octave up and down setting compares to the POG 2?
In terms of tone, tracking, attack etc?
The Ring Thing is in production and should ship out any day.FULL LIST PRICE is $ 279 but shop around for best deal
I bought it. Seem to buy all the ones with Bill Rupert demos. Bought to do some gigs with some surf based sounds so this Thing has the Baritone guitar and vibe/tremolo/etc... ALSO WONDERING: what's the deal with that pickup height? Bridge so high it could be pulling on the strings. Other two must be fairly quiet. What's up with that? THX/PLZ great vid -P
That's what I thought...until I bought one (for the polyphonic pitch shifting) and played around with it for a couple hours. Oh, and I'd actually be pretty stoked if I won a gold medal at the Paralympics.
what's that little bit you played at about 4:40 ? it sounded really nice.
freeeeeeeeeakyyyyy
@CaptainErn what is this trails function you speak of?
@TAXavier well that's a question of the guitarist, not the pedals. Personally i prefer a large pedal board that has each effect carefully tweaked to my own settings, while most effects processors only have so much control over the effects themselves. That said, there's nothing wrong with enjoying having the effects you want at your feet without having to worry about specifics. Sometimes someone knows what they want as opposed to someone who likes to play with whatever they can get.
@UmaInProgress just got mine and it sounds sick with my bass. its very musical compared to others I've tried, but you can set it to sound as tripped out as you want. with an ehx bass microsynth running with it you can make some crazy funky music
5:06 that's from malcolm in the middle awesome
that tremolo sounds kind of univibish... cool...
Can you set it so it's -2 octave only? If so this is definitely going to replace my POG 2.
At 5:05 I really dig that weird short guitar piece! That would go great with a original song I'm writing...weird badass jam..no lol here.. who's the guy that did it?
@h879xx
diamond memory lane 2.
i was so pumped for the deluxe memory boy, and then i found out it didn't have a trails function... sad...
Thank You EHX. i can haz tuner ???
how does this work with a bass?
Anyone heard of the swiss LotR parody called the "Ring Thing"? Hoped so much there would be a reference...
The sound kinda reminds me of Henry Kaiser
Hard to imagine a guitar player getting alot of use out of this but loving it on my keyboard.
Use this with a load of other effects and you can make insane noise
That was both
Is it me or the first lick sounds like the theme from doug?
I wanna hear a drum machine break beat ring'd up.
It has presets so I consider this over the moog....
Is that Larry Demarco playing guitar?
The ring mod looks interesting. But I already have 2 other pedals that do pitch shifting and whammy fx. Too much overlap with these kinds of pedals these days IMO. I don't like buying the same function over and over. Come out with a ring mod for
@monochromeEARTH I get what you're saying. It's kind of Pink Floydish.
5:02!!!
VERY NICE! how much?
I wanna hear a drum machine break beat ring'd up.
I like my Dr Q. This is a little too 'out there' for my taste.
Single sideband modulator = frequency shifter, yes?
yes
Where are the rock star demos???
I'll sell my whammy if this tracks like the pog?
Why don't I already own this?
Ring mod without an expression pedal is like wah without an expression pedal. Why kid yourself?
playing false notes... WTF
Cool, but not very practical for most applications
NO! Check out what it can do in this video. Very practical.
