Fantastic clear tutorial. Tried to do this without any knowledge and it was a mess. Will try again now. Your method is so clean and neat! Thank you very much.

Your tutorial is the most articulate one I’ve watched on UA-cam so far. I haven’t heard of tapestry crochet before and wrapping. Thank you for an awesome tutorial!
This is so cool!! It looks a lot easier and tidier than the other methods I’m trying and less confusing!😅 Thank you for teaching us! That blue yarn is so pretty too 🤗😍
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my tutorial, it is super important for me to know you found it clear. I also love these yarns, have a wonderful day! 💐🧶🤗

I loved the idea of tapestry crochet but didn't like the stitches on the back, thank you for this tutorial: the neat back to this makes me want to try it now! :)
Yes, this technique makes the wrong side of the work very clean, and it also creates a stronger weaving for more resistant pieces, I'm so glad you found the video useful Izzie, best wishes!! :)
+lazol93 Thanks so much for writing, it's so motivating for me that you found the tutorial clear and useful. Muchas gracias y un abrazo grande hasta Nicaragua! :)
Happy you find them useful, you can also check this tutorial ua-cam.com/video/VabpsoL0pdM/v-deo.html to practice tapestry with back loop single crochet 😌
Thank you for posting this video. I have wanted to learn this for some time but always had another project that needed finishing first. You have made this look so easy as well. I don't know where you are from but your English is good. Crochet is pronounced "crochey" here. The "t" is silent.
Hi Mary, I'm happy to know this tutorial motivated you to try tapestry crochet, it's a very fun and interesting technique. Thanks for your comment about my pronunciation, I'm glad it's clear enough. And yes, you're right, it should sound like "crochey", in Spanish we are so used to pronouncing every letter... Have a very lovely day!! :)
Thank you so much for your reply. I now know a little about the Spanish language. I am planning on starting with a simple two color pattern and slowly adding an extra color until I have enough to begin beautiful patterns. I think this is something my granddaughters will like. God bless you for sharing your talent with the rest of us.
Yes Mary, I'm sure your granddaughters will really appreciate something made by you and hopefully someday they will also crochet because you showed them about this beautiful craft. Many blessings for you too, warm regards!! :)
Thanks for your video, I´m doing a cosmetic pouch with tapestry crochet but I´m having problems with vertical lines. They tend to lean to the right. I would galdly accept any advise!!
Hi, thanks for writing. There are different ways of working tapestry crochet, the variation I'm showing in this clip, is in the round, in a spiral way, and taking both loops of each stitch. To get straighter lines, you can work in the round, in closed rounds (this is making a slip stitch to close each round) and just taking the back loop of each stitch. Hope you can give it a try with these changes and see if it works for you, have a great day!! :)
Thanks for the GREAT tutorial. I loved it. I was just wondering, though, a few things. First, is the spiral effect created by not using a single crochet before beginning each next round? Second, is it possible to make it look okay by using the single crochet for each next round, so as to not give it that step-up look? Third, I noticed you were twisting your yarns as you began each new color. Does that, in any way, affect the way it turns out so tightly stitched, or can you still get that nice tightly-stitched-together look by not twisting the yarns over one another as you start each new color?
Hi Sharon, about your questions: the spiral effect is created because of two main things, I'm crocheting by taking the two loops of each stitch and by the end of each round, I don't close with slip stitch but continue immediately with the first stitch of next round. If you don't like the diagonal effect of stitches, you can try working tapestry with back loop single crochet, I also have a tutorial that explains this variant. The twisting of yarns is so that the skeins don't get all tangled up, doesn't affect the stitch work, you can also avoid making these twists before each color change by using yarn bowls to keep each color separate for the whole project. Thank you for visiting and glad you like the instructions, have a very nice day :)
I have a really hard time keeping the carried yarn from showing, particularly with worsted weight yarns. I'm working on a project now with two different fiber yarns. The background is cotton but the foreground is worsted acrylic. There was almost no way to avoid the acrylic showing inbetween the cotton stitches. Hiding my ends is quite a chore, lol.
Thanks so much for following the tutorial and sharing your experience. You can try using a smaller hook and see if this helps, I would also suggest using the same fiber for the yarns you use. You will always be able to see a little of the underlying color as crochet stitches are not completely closed. With practice, you will also get the hang of it, have a great day!! :D
Love this tutorial and thank you for posting in English! Can you tell what weight of yarn you are using and size of hook? What yarns do you suggest at the best for this kind of work.
Hi Lindie, this is sport weight cotton yarn and a 3.5 mm crochet hook. I think the best yarns for tapestry crochet are those who aren't very hairy or fuzzy, such as cotton and fine wool. It's my pleasure sharing in the two languages, so I can reach people like you, thanks so much!! :)
Very well explained... Thank you for the tutorial! Can you please tell which yarn you ve used in this video?? Which yarn works best for tapestry crochet??
Thanks so much Sana, it's great to know that instructions are clear to follow. I used sport weight 100% cotton yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook. I think many yarns could be suitable for tapestry crochet, I personally like cotton because texture is very clean as it's not furry, so shapes look sharper. But you could also use acrylic or wool. Have a lovely day!
Glad you found my video useful, sometimes when crocheting with such contrasting colors, like black and white, color going underneath, may peak through a bit more. It's not wrong but many don't enjoy how it looks. Thanks so much for visiting 💐💐☺

Thank you so much, hook brand is JMRA, it is a really basic hook but they are good to work with 😊💐

Maravilhosa, lindíssima.
Gracias de nuevo, un abrazo!! :)
thanks
You're welcome Samitha, have a beautiful day!! :)
What type of yarn do you use?
Sorry for the late reply, somehow I wasn't notified about your comment.. it's sport weight cotton yarn
Hi, I am familiar with crochet, but I am just getting started with tapestry. I have a Question: Should tapestry be done only in rounds or can I make a rectangular piece of it?
HI Sudha, thanks for writing. There are many ways of working tapestry crochet technique, this tutorial shows how to work it in the round with single crochets, in a spiral. You can also make rectangular or flat pieces by working tapestry crochet back and forth. Have a great day!! :)
May I ask where you got your stitch marker please
Hi Barbara, I found them in a local yarn store. I'm pretty sure you can find them in any yarn store near you, maybe not exactly the ones I'm using, they can have a circular shape instead or a padlock or paperclip kind of shape but they are still stitch markers and have the same purpose. Thanks for watching, have a nice day!! :)
what kind of hook are you using?
Thanks for writing Amy, it's a regular 3.5 mm crochet hook
+Chabepatterns Is it plastic, ceramic or what?
+Chabepatterns If I want make a larger change purse, how would I increase the beginning chain.
It's an aluminum hook, you can just make more chains to begin, if you want to keep the same color sequence of this video then it should be a number of chains that is multiple of 5
I'm doing the ny Yankees but the white is showing through the navy blue
Yes, that can happen with light colors underneath darker as shades. You could try a smaller hook and see if it improves 😌
Very clear tutorial what type of yarn did you used in this pattern, thank you 😊
Sorry for the late reply, somehow I wasn't notified about your comment...this is sport weight cotton yarn
I have trouble with the carried yarn showing.
You can try a smaller hook and see if it works, carried yarn will always be a bit visible but sometimes number of hook can be adapted to reduce this effect. Also, when carrying a lighter color behind dark colors, this can make it pop more because of contrast ☺
Is this tapestry crochet called instasia because the colours are hidden in each colour?
I only know it as tapestry crochet, some may call it intarsia as well, but I think intarsia refers more to crochet color work where additional colors are not carried or wrapped in between the stitches, hope this helps :)
Me gustaría la explicación en español
