It’s just like freestyle when you know you’re about to inhale water just exhale through your nose and breath in through your mouth when you need to breath, you don’t need to be literally breathing the whole time just being consistent breathing in and out
Were the backstroke start rules different back then? My children, who do USA swimming, are required to have their entire foot, including toes, submerged before the start. This becomes annoying at times when 9-10 year olds are trying to pull down the wedge, but don't get it down quite low enough for the entire foot to be submerged. All the other swimmers are holding onto the blocks for what seems like forever. Anyway, very different than what is shown here with only part of Ryan's heel submerged. The rules are constantly changing!
I am currently swimming in high school but I think it’s just different rules for different ages. I remember starting swim when I was eleven and the rules are very different in how they are enforced as well as how they set up the pools. I wasn’t even taught how to use a wedge and my brother was told he couldn’t at a big high school meet. The rules are different for age groups but typically the officials are more lenient with younger kids or inexperienced swimmers.
He actually is not really entering the pinky first it is very close to be flat i.e., all fingers at about same time, I noticed this in may new backstrokers. Your comments.
Bad take, even Ryan Murphy has small imperfections. By your logic nobody could critics nba players because we aren’t on the court or we can’t say a $40 steak isn’t that good just because we aren’t a high end restaurant chef
Literally he’s a coach and coaches this is their job to find the small details swimmers can improve on the reason he isn’t the best swimmer ever is because he doesn’t have as great of a feel of the water and must’ve not gotten the sport as quickly as Ryan Murphy or Olympians but this is literally his job to help swimmers improve in any way, shape or form so stop with that like you aren’t funny you could definitely need his coaching it’s obvious with that negative attitude you definitely aren’t good at swimming and at least won’t take this and try to approve upon what he is saying
Amazing swimmer and great guy!
Do you have a video that can tell you how to stop inhaling water when your doing your backstrokes

I got a swimmeet kinda nervous but damn that was good
Good luck at your meet, and have fun!
Very interesting as usually are yours clips.
Great analysis!!!
Great swimming
Impeccable
Please do a video about the new FINA rules. You can be submerged for the last 5m?
Wait, so is “butt to heels” the preferred way to set up for a backstroke start? We aren’t doing 90 degree knees with a straight back anymore?
IMO butt to heels there's not enough tension in the legs, easier to generate power (bottom of a squat) from 90 degree ish to extened through hips.
Can you do a video about the swimmer Tara Yummy

Great anylisis Coach, but in terms of pointing his toes, don't you mean he's pointing them in the direction he's NOT trying to go?
Bro what if you don’t point your toes it will create more drag as you dive into the water that’s good

🙉
Bro you are in no position to critique Ryan Murphy‘s backstroke

Stop sending negative comments
He is trying his best to explain it
