POV: you still don't understand how hydraulic press works

Let me translate that into english for you.
tube 1 and tube 2 are cylinders. Tube 1 is thinner than tube 2... which means that if you move 1 inch vertically, you displace a certain amount of liquid... and if you press that same amount of liquid UP on the second tube, that cylinder will move up by LESS than an inch (because the tube is thicker than the first one).
So... if you are pressing down with 100 lbs on the thin side, the fat side isn't moving as far, but it will press a lot more than 100 lbs.
    It's very similar to leverage.
Imagine a seesaw that both sides are equal. One side moves up a foot, the other moves down a foot. Completely equal. No leverage change for either side.
Now, imagine 1 side moves up and down a foot, but the other side moves up and down only an inch (because it's closer to the fulcrum... look up "fulcrum" if you need to). The same force applied to the other side covers a smaller distance, making the force much greater.
Same concept for pistons. If a force moves 1 piston a certain amount, and the other piston is moved (by the same force) a different amount, that different amount of movement generates a different amount of force.
Add to this that the input shaft (the thin one) is generally pressed by a lever itself, and you can multiply your manual strength dozens or even hundreds or thousands of times... but you have to repeat the motion numerous times (pump it several times).

Thx, the analogy of it relating to leverage on a see saw was a big help and was a lot more of my speed.

    Simple explanation:
There is a pump system that keeps pumping water into the press. It pumps water at the same small strength everytime, while the press keep pressing down with more strength because there is more water.
Literally how Pascal made Pascal's law.

In low gear in bicyle you do more rotation but it makes easier in higher road. You trade distance for force.

The pump shaft is rotated by an electric motor or internal combustion engine. The liquid from the pump enters the hydraulic cylinder, and forces its piston with the rod to move.

    This is crazy
But what about the wires (or whatever is it) holding the liquids? How strong do they have to be to be able to press hundreds of thousands of pounds and not burst doesn’t the water want to escape anyway possible.

I think you mean the tubes. They will obviously be made from a rigid material in order to withstand the tons upon tons of pressure. However, due to the cross section of a tube being circular in shape, this allows every single "side" of the tube to distribute pressure to its adjacent sides (if you want to see how this works, go to the kitchen and use your hand to crush an egg--you can't). So while yes, they do have to be made of a strong material, it's also not nearly as strong as you think it needs to be. Hope this helps!

There is only one hydraulic cylinder. So where is Pascals Law applied? You mean hydraulic pump acts as smaller cylinder?

    • @user-od3tm2fl9f
      @user-od3tm2fl9f  4 роки тому +3

The gear pump, in this example, is the "smaller cylinder". Perhaps it was better to show the piston pump in this video, but regardless of the design of the pump, the principle of operation will be the same
