Just driving the b200d (top spec non amg) rental car on holiday - here are my thoughts:
1. The lane assist - the fact that it can't be permanently disabled is a massive PAIN IN THE ASS, let alone the actual usage of this crap. I know u can adjust it to have different types of feedback it gives you when u get near the lines, but honestly- this shit is for pensioner type drivers who need to be constantly reminded they are actually on the road. WORST OPTION EVER
2 The Bridgestone tyres (seems that Mercedes is using those on different models , mine included) - now this Friday is when my experience with this brand ends, FOREVER. I actually stopped once on the motorway services in the past, where some guy was asking me for a locking wheel nut for an Audi (my daily is an A6). That guy's tyre came off the rim as it was some pancake wrapped around the rim... I thought wtf (always thought Bridgestones are really good). Unfortunately the road noise from these tyres is fucking hardcore and handling in wet is like riding rollerscates on a wet asphalt.
3 the cabin noise - it is overwhelming to extent where you just become tired from driving after a while (could be due to those Bridgestones)
4 Satnav - fucking hell, not sure if it the Menorcan road but this car literally took my to an alley where there was a wall on both sides with rocks sticking out literally giving me an inch on both sides and mahooosive pot holes on the alley ending in judge steep drop in to a main road. Luckily only scrapped the underside of the car but that was an experience to say the least. So happy I took the extra insurance altho no damage done. Sat nav definitely sucks In terms of route guidance.
5 soundsystem- basic system in this model and this means that unless u crank it up proper, u wont hear a thing (also due to road noise from Bridgestone probably)
6 engine and gearbox - this is what gives you the most joy and must admit the 140bhp engine really pulls like it should- combined with the aut gearbox it has a very decent kickdown available. Overtaking can be a little different at speeds beyond 100kph as the gearbox tends to drop 3 gears down to get some torque and this does seem a little laggy....
Not sure what else I've missed but I think it does compare with the c300d which I am just looking at in terms of potential lease, however seeing all the same behaviours here on the video, does tell me I need to steer clear (although that torque from c300d must be bloody amaizing - which is why I would consider this a daily).
