    Old school handlebars for the front support is a great idea !!

      Yes, it handles pretty well. My original purpose was just to have a canopy strong enough to withstand strong winds. Somehow, I kept adding one by one and created this.

    very cool, I saw some sunpower 165w panels on ebay for only $120, upon some research the panels are only aroud 128w though. GLAD TO SEE YOU ARE ONLY USING AROUND 240W AND GETTING GOOD RESULTS! I also have the rh212 motor

    Does the solar power actually do anything when there is no sun out?

    • @RideBicycleUSA
      @RideBicycleUSA  3 роки тому +2

      No sun , no watt. It can only be used when raining from getting wet.

    Why not get a small trailer?

    • @RideBicycleUSA
      @RideBicycleUSA  3 роки тому +2

      I am trying to keep things small so I can carry in and out from my car. I live in a house without a garage so it is not easy to store too many items in the living room. Also, a small trailer can carry more for longer trip but will require more attention when turning or going down hill.

    Wow! That looks awesome! Can’t wait to see it on the road powering all your accessories 😎. Does it make the trike awkward when riding?

      The solar panels will add about 20 lbs extra weight on top so I am more careful when turning. I have not flipped yet so far and feel safe.

      How many miles and how fast are you planning to ride a day?
      My battery is 48v 15a and I have 340w (170w x 2) with 240w max since I only have one solar controller. With this setup, I can ride at least 120 miles at 15 mph with 20 miles left in the battery in good weather.

      Solar panels can be heavy. I have a 170 w flex panel from Renogy. It’s light but quite big. I don’t expect to use the battery when I can peddle. The solar energy is only for peddle assist. As a side note, you can use a golf cart battery as a spare power.

      I have found 100w can make you go much faster. I strongly recommend using the power when riding.

      Yes,still 48v since I have invested two 48v Genasun controllers. The battery was made from used cells and about 14ah currently.

    Thank you for sharing. It looks awesome. I am putting together my own but not yet done. I am using a bike instead of a trike. I have a 170w flex solar panel, and possibly two batteries: a deep cycle golf cart battery and a lithium ion battery for ebike. Would like to bike in other countries but not sure how to pack them into the plane. I don’t think the airlines would let me check in the batteries so I may have to make my own ebike batteries by purchasing them in the destination country using 18650 batteries. My bike is not made for long distance. I have a Canondale CADD 12 for now. If I decide to use this, I will need to replace the bottom bracket with Bafang mid drive motor. Any advice?

    • @RideBicycleUSA
      @RideBicycleUSA  3 роки тому +1

      I am still less than a year for this toy so I am still in learning mode. If you are using 170w then it should be on a trailer. For a upright bike, you should get better mileages. Transferring a bike is not easy with solar even within US. Have fun...
      I think you should use a bike with at least 40mm tires for weight and comfort for long distance.

    • @rider2731
      @rider2731 3 роки тому +1

      @@RideBicycleUSA Thanks for the advice. About the tire size, that is on my list. I agree I need bigger tires. But first I need to get a bike that has a bigger front fork. The bike I have has narrow fork. So ideally I should get another bike. There are those riders who ride to many different countries. I always wonder how they transport their bikes. Where did you purchase your trike from? Did it come in a box that you can re-use?

    • @RideBicycleUSA
      @RideBicycleUSA  3 роки тому +1

      @@rider2731 I purchase a used one from local. It will cost around $300 for shipping and at least $100 for packing in a box.
