  • In this video I explain how to kill clover in your lawn the cheap way by using ortho weed b gone clover chickweed and oxalis weed killer. I just have a few areas of clover in the lawn so spot spraying is the best method and you can do this with a tank sprayer like the Chapin I am using or with a hose end sprayer as well.

For Creeping Charlie I use 20muleteam borax laundry soap from the grocery store 1 1/2 cups for 2 gallons of water.
It doesn't dissolve in water but is suspended so the container has to be shaken occasionally.
Works very well but sometimes a second application is needed later on.

Hello Ryan. I’ve actually manually dug up some clover.....and the root is HUGE....taking up a lot of “soil space” that grass could be growing from!! Will weed killer get rid of these long substantial roots so the grass roots can use that space? Love your videos and really respect your expert advice. Teddy UK.

Believe a little dish soap works as a surfactant. Just make sure to add it after the water or you will end up with a foamy mess, lol. Nice looking lawn! Unfortunately, I've got 2.5 acres to battle with...

I've had very good luck with this product. I just use the gallon container it comes in with the battery sprayer. I spot treat only and had to reapply in some areas. I have an acre and it was a mess but this worked in just a few days. I'm almost done with my second gallon. .
I'll never use granulars again. I always burn areas.

Mix one cup of vinegar with a cup of water and one drop of dish soap. Shake it up and spray it onto any patches of clover. The vinegar will dry out the clover's leaves, and the dish soap will make sure it sticks. You may need to spray over a series of weeks to kill off the clover completely.

Don't forget to spray again in September according to some of the other people I've listened to on here. Also I used just that stuff.
Next depending upon what your weeds look like I've learned you need to get Prodiamine and use it twice a year. Bare areas and heat weaken it. Also get you some Blue or some other colors Lazer Dye.
Then you know exactly where you are spraying.

Hey Ryan, I'd get on the creeping Charlie asap. I inherited it from the people that used to own my home, it was bad. Last year I hit it 2x in a 6 week period with 2-4D and dicamba, and it worked on the newer growth, but the heavy established growth basically laughed at me. The best approach I found was to get on my hands and knees and literally dig it out. It's painstakingly slow, but the results were amazing. My wife actually became obsessed with ridding the turf of it! How cool is that!?? What we had afterwards was a VERY sparse turf and many bare spots. Once mid August rolled around I basically renovated the entire front turf (with tips from you and LCN) and the lawn in September was amazing!! Lots of comments from neighbors and passerby's etc. Fast fwd to this past spring, and no more Charlie!! Just nice dense turf! Sorry for the long winded story, but it was a good one, lol. Also, thanks for the uploads, your lawn looks amazing! Keep up the good work!

Ryan, I appreciated this video. I wish that you would have stated the temperature at the time which you decided that it was safe to spray. I am aware that 90 degrees and above are too hot. I do not have a handle on when it is cool enough to apply the clover killer. So I have been timid about using a broadleaf killer spray and my lawn is being overrun with what I consider to be weeds.

I went with a standard white. I had patchy grass in heavy shade areas in the back and brown grass in the front during dry summers.
The clover did a great job filling the shady gaps and staying green the dry.
Also I was encouraged by clover's nitrogen fixing properties. Which I think has thickened the grass as well.

Have you ever used Crossbow for clover and other broadleaf? Its a Southern Ag product. I found it works really great on broadleaf varieties (much better than Ortho or Roundup which usually take multiple applications) but I've never used it on CC.

I have heard of it but haven't tried it. I might check it out for the creeping charlie.

Would you still recommend this today? What if I was looking at yarrow, black medic, and clover?

I live in Minnesota too. I’m letting dandelions and clover in. I’m through with cancer causing chemicals. The chemicals smell so bad in the spring. I’ll just fertilize my lawn on June 1st and in September or October winterizer.

Is there a product where you don't need a sprayer? Like one that comes in a spray bottle form?

I'm trying this first on the creeping charlie but will likely have to wait for fall to really get after it.

I have clovers in my yard spreading to my garden (that has no grass, and mulch). Will this kill the flowers I’m trying to grow?

I have not. It worked on clover but not as much on creeping charlie. I'll be battling that a bit more this year.

Hi Ryan, enjoy your videos. I live in Northern Va, and have a lot of clover in our yard. When can I over seed after spraying? Is there an anti-clover product that allows faster seeding? A Scott product I viewed said need to wait about 6 weeks. Thanks

Something that is a little stronger and works well is Speedzone. I believe it's 4 weeks though if I remember correctly.
