How to jump in kitesurfing - basics 101

- After teaching a decade of this sport, the swing theory concept started to form in my head, and I applied it in my teaching when teaching students for kitesurfing jumps, it was working better than anything. Here it is. I am sharing my tips with you; that is how I teach kitesurfing jumps in my lessons, and all my folks do this in the epic gust kitecoaching schools.
I taught this with the most significant success for those who never jumped. Many riders build the wrong muscle memory for a very long time, so they struggle to switch this around, but when someone had a clean slate, they picked it up quickly, and we went from no jumps to 2-3 m jumps within a week of deliberate practice.
This is not a magic trick that you will watch and be able to do bigger jumps. The swing theory might be something you will remember - so I will reach my goal - I found this as a key element in the lessons. Eventually, the real deal and faster progression can be achieved when you take a coach, who will be able to pinpoint your strong and weak links, and you can put deliberate effort to practice exactly what you need.

Very interesting. But what is the kite position when you take off to maximize the swing effect? Just a bit before 12, right at 12 or a little after 12 ?
And what is the kite movement during the jump ?

it all depends. Internet is a good place for average answers but not to give exact answers - in my opinion. I can say x and it might hinder your progress cos if I had seen your jump, i would have say something completely different. I hope you get my point. To max your progress get a buddy or a proper coach who can give you a good overlook and set you on the right track. Otherwise it takes so much more time with trial and error.
But i dont want to leave you without an answer - yet it might be not the one you need to hear - if you take off with the kite precisely at 12, your riding momentum will get the kite slightly behind you anyway. that is why i suggest NOT to send the kite straight behind.
if you want to make a kiteloop it is better to take off slightly before 12.
if it is a transition jump it is different agian.
the kite movement is in the video i believe. kite goes to 12. stays there till the peak. kite moves back forward for landing - is this not clear from the video? cos then i need to refine it :)
i am working on a way to evaluate this and give precise things to people through a video analysis, would you be interested in this? If you have a video of your own jumps i can evaluate it for you!

I really struggle with timing : pop, kite position, pulling the bar. Which one is first and at when during the take off preparation?

@EpicGust the Insta 360 backpack 🎒 support? It will works for 80 euro or is only for backpack 🎒? Wow 180! It's a lot
@ i had a chance to try the backpak. Not even remotely close to this system unfortunately- the backpack is very wobbly.
This one can be tighten well and stays stiffand still shakes a bit but offers the best result in such sport. When you see the thing itself it could be remade under 20 eur but inguess the idea anb being the only one allows them to charge.
@@EpicGust thanks so much for your explanation!! Wow , understand so shame of insta360! They do such nice products but cover case, support tools are not the best to be honest! They even released a new gimbal today but they have to improve of support tools I believe. But thanks I will try to find this support expensive then for my kitesurf staff
@ i think it is probably cos this is a special use case. That backpack thing is great walking around like hiking and get great footage - and itnhas all kind of storage inside so you can keep some stuff in it- cos of this the materials are not great for water either. I reckon running would be also a problem with it.
They aim on a wide user range so compromise is normal at specificity.
I dont know much about other products they release. I have a line mount for the 360 too- thats also a wake-kite specific thing- also great.
