Had to replace the battery on my M1. Very useful, thanks! For anyone on Mac, I used Sys Ex librarian and followed the same steps. Worked seamlessly with the Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 MIDI out into MIDI in on the M1
make sure and slow down the throttling speed under options/settings to 'very slow' and uncheck the 'split long messages when sending' since this corrupts the data. This worked for me.
If you’re reading this and you can’t still make it work, they are talking about (options in the program itself not the keyboard) I was looking for it like crazy into the keyboard menu. 😂
i did it following the same steps but using SysEx Librarian instead of Bome,,, Via MIDI from the Komplete Audio 6 to the M1 and it worked perfectly, Thanks for the info. And for all people who still cant make it yet, please think a bit if you are doing everything right before drop a shitty comment. Hello Mr. Woody, i'd like to say a big THANK YOU! on your video...cuz my M1 rose from the dead!!! for 5 yrs it's been relegated as a controller but now i can use again those classic sounds that i've been longing. Also, hats off to Mr. Kes Ter, for splendid technical help on Bome SendSX :). I must say Mabuhay! greetings from the Philippines.
THANK YOU!!! Honestly, I can't thank you enough for posting this step-by-step video. I had to use a different Sys Ex utility for my Mac, but otherwise I followed everything you did on the video to restore the factory settings to my M1R. Bless you!
Rory Starks I'm having the same issues as a Mac user. How did you work around it? can you contact me and go over it mate please? I'd really appreciate it. I bought one of these back in 1993 as the ex model so it came with additional sounds on a separate card. After replacing the battery I somehow managed to put all sounds from the external sound card into my internal memory and lost my original sounds, hehe why is like to restore these.
Mr Woody, you made another guy happy with your video!!!! I love the M1! Thanks a lot for your great and so worthy and helpful instruction! Greetings from Munich!!!
Thanks for posting this! It took a few gyrations but I finally got it to work. Set the throttle speed to very slow and since I was using a USB cable from my PC to MIDI on the KORG, I made sure to select 'MIDI OUT' to 'USB cable' in the Bome settings.
I couldn't get it to work ... kept coming back with only Init, then I saw Kes Ter's comment. I changed the settings in Bome and it worked perfect ... yea! Thanks. PS. My battery lasted 30 years!
Thank you so much for the video tutorial. I ran into some issues but unchecking the " split long messages when sending " and slowing down the throttle in the Options made everything working just fine. Much love ❤❤
@@WoodyPianoShack My dad was a great musician and after he passed away in 91 I had my dad's Korg but about 15 years ago the batter died and after changing it I notice it lost the original sounds. I did not really played it until yesterday and after restoring and hearing the sounds I got flashback to him and me playing and got a new energy to play music. I've been practicing all day today and already got a song. Thank you again. The Korg M1 will always be something that will reminds me of my dad forever. Thank you so much
I am really not a techy guy and was able to reload the factory presets fairly quickly, for me the most helpful part of this video is between 0:42 and 1:16. I may have been lost without that insight. Great video Woody!
OOOOOH MAN thank you so much I requested this video in many channels on youtube and you were the one to give us a very accurate Answer thank you soo much i really Appreciate it
Hello Woody, thank you very much for your video ^^ I just bought a M1 fee weeks ago and was able to restore the factory sounds with your video Did this for my girlfriend, she is playing all the time now :D
Great video! However, the transfer only sort of worked. I’ve tried slowing down the throttling speed as suggested below, other speed combos suggested on various forums, and using different sysex programs but nothing changes...All the sounds are there, but they’re really quiet and are only coming out of one channel, or side of my headphones. Before the battery replacement the sound was perfect. **Any help would be appreciated** Thank you :)
Just want to be sure before I get one of these in the future, I could overwrite the 100 factory presets with 100 of my choosing that I might find online from the various banks that are out there correct? & if so would I still need any kind of cards ??
Had some trouble. Only problem was a crappy cable I bought off Amazon (FORE MIDI to USB Interface). Once I used a better interface (Midiman Midisport 2x2) it worked perfectly. Thanks, Woody!
I have many synths including an M1R that have been hanging around for many years because they've not had a proper home. I intend to soon remedy that situation. I'm concerned that most will have flat batteries so presumably lost their preset memories? Are we saying that the M1 (R) retains its memory by factory reset & doesn't need an external tape recorder & cassette? I no longer have my recorder anyway. Are presets available for most synths by the way & do you know where I'd find at least some of them please?
Nice video, on my m1 when iam on program the cursor it stays blinking on the row below universe i can not change the type of sound i want in the up and down. The only way i can do that is go straight to numerical .is there a way i can change the cursor? Thanks
Hey Woody! Thank you for the video, i want to reset my M1 because its acting weird, i wonder if the trick that you show in the first seconds of the video will simply reset the Keyboard with all factory presets, or will it actually delete the presets because it says in the video it will ''delete all of the sound data and sequences'' that got me confuse...
Thanks for sharing I came across with this video in need of help. Followed steps shared and it still worked to me Thanks a lot Just had to move to the settings and the uncheck the split option and also setted to very slow speed. But fantastic🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thx, it worked for me after going in Bome's settings like Kes Ter mentioned...unchecked ''Split Long Messages, Turnaround for faulty drivers'' and put Throttling speed to very slow...i had a cheapo USB to MIDI cable for using my M1 has a keyboard to play sample sounds off my Windows laptop, it worked fine to transfer the factory M1 from Bome to the M1....thx for making this vid...liked your vid and subscibed to your channel...cheers...
Is there a similar way to restore the factory sounds in a Korg X3? I've looked around and the only solution I can find is to use the original floppy disk (which I no longer have).
Thank you sooo much!! Many thanks for this video! I have owned an m1 for about 10 years. Since today it has the first time since that time again the original presets. Thanks a lot! (P.S.: Happy Christmas!!) (P.P.S.: Please excuse my bad english!)

OK I followed this procedure to the very end. The Bome program says it sent 49791 bytes of info. Will the M1 go back to the home screen automaticity when finished? Do I have to select something on the M1 after the data says it is done? So close...I'm using a rather generic USB to Midi interface that the customer supplied. Thanks
OK...I lowered throttle speed to lowest setting, changed MIDI out to USB and unchecked "split long messages when sending" . The screen changed to "completed" so I turned it off/on and all the sounds are there! Thanks (used the same cheapy interface the customer supplied)
Hi Woody, everything has worked right up to sending 49791 bytes. Then on same line as Prog 100 Init Prog OSC Balance - the cursor does not go to the top line to access sounds it stays on the second line changing the '0-00' numbers. Do I have a different issue?
Thanks for the video! Question: How long does it take to send the file from Bome SendSX to the keyboard? Here it says that is sending and does not change even after an hour, and the application crashes very often.

I’m sorry but I must be dumb. It’s not working. Can someone explain to me what I’m doing wrong here. I have followed the instructions exactly and it’s still not working.
There's a cool trick to increase internal sequencer memory, but it cuts program locations to half.
