What An Aesthetic This Is - I love searching for names that totally fit the sentimental but unique and quirky vibe of Eclectic Grandpa the biggest trend so far in 2024 - I think these names will stand the test of time but stand out for a baby boy born in 2024 for all the good playful vibes with the gravitas of being vintage gold! What names would you add to this list?
SJ xxx
There might not be an Eclectic Grandma trend but there is the "Coastal Grandma" trend that would be fun to see a list of if you haven't done that already! Pearl, Sandy, Gail, Miranda...
My grandpa was Chester and he went by Chet, which I think is way overdue for a comeback.
So so lush x
I love Chet!
This reminds me of a character on critical role, he's a really old guy named Chetney, but they all call him Chet as well. I think it's a cute nickname!
Love this list and appreciate your creativity as always! When are we going back to the old baby name book?? I’m on the edge of my seat ❤
Ahhh yes I’ll edit it this week and get it uploaded!! So many great names xx
@@SJ_Strum Looking forward to whenever you get a chance to upload it 😊 Thanks SJ ❤️
Yes,we can't wait for the old name book part 2!!
Adding Earnest to this list!
I would love a part 2 of Eclectic Grandpa names. Sooo many gems! 💙✨
American here. My dad's name is Floyd, and it was even incredibly rare when he was a kid in the 60s; I have always loved it!
SJ you need to make your own baby name book it could be so therapeutic to write and i would love to read it 🥺
Ahhh I’d love that! Xxxx
Your personality is so contagious SJ! You’ve sold me on more names than you will ever know over the years. I unwittingly shared Howard on IG the same day you posted this, so eclectic grandpa is definitely in the air!
How about my dad’s sibset: Bobby, Ronnie, Richie, Eddie, Kathy and Jimmy (dad)
Aka Robert, Ronald, Richard, Edward, Kathleen, and James.
I do feel like Howard fits in with Arthur and Harvey as a vintage revival alternative to those Richard or Edward classics. ❤
Love seeing Dorsey here! I think it's such gem.
wow! i can’t believe you said Lawton, not only am I from Oklahoma but my dad, his mother, and her mother are from Lawton. It just feels so special that you said that. My great grandma moved there when she was a little girl and passed away barely 3 years ago at 101. Lived in Lawton her whole life independently even after everyone moved hours away. She stayed living on her own and me and my grandma (her daughter) would take trips to Lawton almost every weekend when I was a kid.
Btw, for anyone who wants to know more about the place it is a really small town (I have no idea how it ranked 5th largest town in oklahoma because I can think of at least 6 bigger ones) and it’s one of the only places in oklahoma with mountains, which is the most beautiful part. it’s got a LOT of rich native american history with places like medicine park and these old but very cool museums. and some really old buildings from when my grandma was a kid in the 40s that are still in use. I never considered naming my child Lawton but what a great way to honor my family.
i googled it, it is the 5th most populated city which blows my mind because i’m from a suburb by tulsa and the town is pretty unheard of over here by my peers. puts into perspective how tiny oklahoma is
I'm from Oklahoma too!
Ahhh I absolutely love this story and family history, crazy I can speak to you from my bedroom it always amazes me I can meet you all the way in Oklahoma!! Thanks so much for adding the history and painting a picture of Lawton xxx
No way! I’m from central Oklahoma, about a two hour drive from Lawton. My husband and I used to drive there all of the time to hike when we were first dating, so it has a special place in my heart. It’s where we had our first kiss, actually. We got to take our toddler there for the first time last fall. ❤
Both my fiancé and my own grandfathers’ middle name happen to be Earl! He really wants to honor his when we have kids in the future, but I cannot find any first names we both like to go with it. I loved Elliot Earl and maybe Jonas it’s so hard to find names I like that work with the -er ending of his last name!
I love, love, LOVE grandpa names for baby boys. Eldon was my grandpa’s middle name, and I think it’d fit on this list as well!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I've always been saying the kids (especially these days) dont care about names as much as we do. They have no conotations, they know only what's presented to them
I have a Jim! (Oficially James, but only ever known as Jim or Jimmy). I've never come across another one! Also really love Floyd and Dorsey 😊
Our 9 month old is called Wilfred :) Wilfred Fionn (wilf or wilfy for short). Weve always just been drawn to the name Wilf!. We also have an older daughter called Orla Elsie xx
Love Dorsey & Hector. I also think that these names also fit the theme: Edgar, Aubrey, Bertram, Ebenezer, Clancy, Eugene, Neil, Percival, Aloysius, Lawrence, Cornelius, Alfred & Albert.
I know a little boy named Sylvester and I think its so adorable, I feel like it has eclectic grandpa vibes
Yay! Pleased to see this video came on. I was worried as you hadn’t posted for a little while. Excited to listen! Thanks SJ X
Some extras could be: Vinnie, Walter, Franklin, Humphrey, Neville, Cecil, Leonard, Cohen, Bartley, Phineas, Gilbert, Samuel, Cleo, Jonty, Desi, Ronald, Samson, Watson, Timothy, Nelson, Malachy, Hansel, Ernest.
Oh SJ this list was made for me!!!!
Always xxxx
I'm always on the hunt for a future delightful "L" name so Lawton was a cool idea! But I was also really drawn to Clyde and Dorcey. Something about Pride and Prejudice but not quite just gives me a little smile. And I also really enjoyed Casbourne - super cool and yet simple. Great list!
My son's name is Ira, its a family name and has historical ties to the state we live in. I love it just as much now as the day we picked it and I feel like it definitely fits on this list. a little old man, a little playful and sweet. If we have another son, he'll probably be Abel or Ellis, both of which I also feel fit pretty well into this category/trend!
I love Floyd. I cannot get on board with Earl due to the Chicks song, "Earl had to die".😅
Melvin and Emory are so lovely! I have 2 boys Erwin and Emrys but at some point i though about one of those on my list.
You’ve gone and nailed it again! 🎉
I'm always so happy to see a new list! You have such good ideas and interesting things to say about the names. This time you've included two of my dogs' names. My childhood dog was named Howard, and my current dog is Wallace (though we usually call him Wally). I love both names for people too! My three little boys have similar style grandpa names.
Ahhh your dog name style is eclectic grandpa 😂❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for this creative list. I have had a Melvin moment now too, it’s a great name.
Love your videos! We just named our son Vincent. I feel it fits this theme too! You videos have helped us name both of our kids. Thank you for all your help!
Such a cool name!! I love it x
Wow! This resonates so well with my name aesthetic. ❤
Amazing!! Mine too xx
Emory is my favorite from this list :) Great video SJ :)
I love it so much too xxx
My friends grandpa was Norris. I met him just once but the name has stuck with me 10+ years later
That’s lovely x
I really love this list! This isn’t on there but we named our son Everson and have received tons of compliments! We love it.
I had a great uncle named Orville and I feel like that would fit here. So cute!
So cute; I thought of Orville when I said Melville x
Yeah!! Missed you!
I’ve always liked Clyde, it’s actually what my mom was going to call me if I was a boy
I feel like Sterling fits on this list too.
Love that you mentioned Emerson on here - that’s what we’re naming our son, due in a few weeks. He’s named after mine and my husband’s grandfathers, Emerson Dutch (which is more a nickname, but we think it sounds great together).
Wow I love that combo!
Some really good names there SJ, I think my favourite is Emory 💕
Ah I’m so glad; I love it so much at the moment it’s my fave name right now x
Great list SJ! Haskell is an old surname which is a Hebrew boy's name that might fit with this theme.
Wow I love that!
Enjoy your Baby names and sending hugs 🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸🌼🌸
Casbourne actually gives me real galactic/ futuristic vibes.
We just welcomed our second son and named him Clyde Theodore, although I sort of wish we had named him Clyde Shepherd. I’m actually listening to this while bouncing around the kitchen with him strapped to me. ♥️And he was nearly named Wallace, so clearly the “eclectic grandpa” genre is my favorite. If we get to have any more boys Wallace, Harvey or Walter would be our front runners.
I watched this just to see if my sons name was on the list. Yes, Hector was there! We get so many compliments on his name! He was Hector the day we found out he was a boy and we love it more and more each day! I will say though it might be wear we live but i doesn't feel that rare here. I now know 3 other Hector's!
Wow! I know two as well weirdly! It’s a great name xxx
The names I like from this list is Emory and Hector
Great list, SJ! Looking forward to the girl version next week. Some names from my family history that might fit this trend are: Edgar, Lemuel, Randolph, and Warren.
you could do coastal grandma!! I love that trend !!
Love Wallace!
I know quite a few grandpas with cool names - Vernon (Vern) is one that stands out to me. Also Lyle, Galen, and Lyndon
My dad’s name was Howard Eugene. He never went by Howie, just Howard. So glad that that name is high on your list!!!! 💕💕💕
I thought about you today, hope you are doing well ❤
Thank you, yes getting there day by day thanks for thinking of me it means so much xxxxx
My grandfather was Charles, and everyone called him either Charlie or Chuck. His middle name was Preston, which was a family name from a couple of generations before. Charlie Preston is a pretty cool name, maybe eclectic grandpa??
Dorsey would be pretty cool for a little boy; it's got the strong D sound to start, but then it softens. I like it!
Jimmy is the name of my mom's first boyfriend in the early 70's, and then of her 3rd husband in the 90's. Because of those guys, I get a fun, charismatic, cheeky chappie vibe. Which is great!
I only just remembered when you mentioned Lawton, but there was a boy in my 4th grade class (in the 80's in the US) called Lawton. Shy and wore all brown clothes. Nice boy, I think.
Earl... idk how it is now, but when I was a kid, (in my area of the US) Earl was generally thought of as a stereotype: unsophisticated, rural, with a thick southern accent. Like if Onslow from Keeping Up Appearances was from the rural American south, haha. But then you reminded me that Earl is a title in Britain, and I thought of Downton Abbey... loads of sophistication there. Some names just sound better with a British accent? Seems classist of me, maybe I should rethink that!
I like how soft Emory is. I'd like boys to feel it's okay to be different from traditional super-masculine expectation!
I really like Dorsey! ❤❤
Our boy was named Eugene after my grandpa, and it's also the name of my husband's hometown! I think of it as more traditional, but people have found it quite surprising and responded rather warmly to it.
Hector is our top name for our next boy. Likely Hector Galahad.
I love casbourne!
Last year was a trove of old guy names in my classes. Melvin, Otis, Wallace, Oscar...parents were on this trend early (16 years ago) in Detroit, Michigan.
I think my son’s name - Benedict - has a little of the eclectic grandpa vibes, but maybe on the trendier side because of Cumberbatch, I don’t know.
Such a handsome name
I’m keen to use Malcolm, but not sure if eclectic gpa or just plain Gramps 😅
My grandpa always used to say he was “fit as a Mallee Bull” so that or Mac for a nickname!
I really like Malcolm. It is a Scottish name.
Love this trend i definitely have Wallace and Abner on my list. I also have Walter, Welland, Garnet, Edwin, Edmund, Russell, and Rupert
My great grandpa was Sanders and my grandpa was Harley both of them are so cool to me!
My Dad is Melvyn with a Y. He gets called Melv for short. Never knew the meanings of his name but both are totally accurate.
Honestly, I don't know how the English who follow you pick a name. You could sell me on anything... until I say it with an American accent. Love your creativity with your lists, you really think it through and I so enjoy watching every video.
Ahh thanks for saying that! I love creating these lists xxx
I adore Wallace and Emory, although I might spell it Emery or Emry. Makes me think of Emrys, the Druid name for Merlin.
Not a fan of Earl but LOVE Errol!!! Which is almost the same and so cute
I have an Emory and I can confirm it's a beautiful name and he is a really cool, fashionable young guy 😎 😂
Yay! X
Not sure if it fits theme but adore Rhett from Gone with the wild .
Glen i think is adorable and may e bit off theme but Justin with the mega cute nick name of Tin Tin xxxxx
My eldest son is Hector he’s 6 and I knew as soon as I saw this his name would be in this… but can’t believe it’s now trending 😮 wasn’t popular at all when we picked it!!
Ahh he’s the trend setter! It’s still rare but definitely getting a lot of love with new parents xxxx
Wallace, Dorsey, Floyd, Howard, Melvin, Clyde, & Abner are cute. I also like Clive and Russell. I'm not sure how popular Russell is elsewhere, but I don't know anyone but older grandpa-age people or celebrities. I named a plant Clive.
We’re naming our son Winford which I totally think fits on this list 🥰
Oooh love that so much! Xx
I can see Floyd on a really cool, artsy guy
Love Clyde too
Me too! X
@SJ_Strum what are your thoughts on the name Ambrose for a boy?
Yes ! Unusual but a great name.
I think Jem fits in here
I've said this before, but Wallis (spelt this way) for a girl is a major name crush for me. Love Jimmy too. How about Rudy? I think he would fit this trend too.
Rudy fits so well! Xxx
I knew a female Wallis! Very cool
Astoria
Raymond
Raelynn 🌟✨
Cooper
Cardinal
Dorsey
Moses
McKenna
Milton Herschel
Bradley
Bliss
I have two girls with two syllable names with the Li sound as the 2nd and third letters but the sound I starts the second syllable Alice and Olive. Does anyone have another girls and boys name. We have Elliot as a boys but looking for Ideas. Please help
Eclectic old-fashioned, grandparent names remind me of children who will probably become part of the nerdy clique in school.
My son’s name is Elmer - he’s the cutest 2 year old Elm - Elmo - Elmer out there!
love this list! 💙
i would add: Herbie, Edgar, Ned, Wilbur, Ernie, Wilf, Bertie, Ralphie/Ralph, Walter, Stanley and Gus! .
Can’t believe my number one boy name (if the second is a boy) was on the list Hahahha
Ooooh now I’m curious! 🥰😂
Jeffrey should be on this list
I have a friend Wallace but spelled wallis (female)
Love that spelling x
My ex was a massive Pink Floyd fan, he always wanted our son to be called Floyd, but I absolutely hated it and called our son Finn (who’s now 15) at the time the name Finn wasn’t that popular.
My ex went on to have another child with his new partner and called him Floyd 😂
No way 😅😅 Finn is obviously my fave as I have a little Finn!! Xxxx
I really couldn't use any of these names but it was fun hearing about them. I have noticed a few baby Hectors lately.
Of these I like Lawton, Casborne (as a middle name), Dorsey, Clyde, Emory, and Hector. I don’t like the others at all.
I think the name Clovis would fit into this list! I really like Clovis and I feel it's underrated
Such such a cool name!!! Envy for this one ❤️❤️❤️
A pity about the association with the Tv show 'My Name is Earl'. Not a bad show, but the character Earl is a bit deliberately uncool in the show
