  • Here's a gem for you Lone Star/ Paul Chapman/ Jon Sloman fans. September 29th 1977, London. The video is not great, it's OK though, but I haven't seen another source for this broadcast. Audio is synched, from my analogue cassette recording of the radio broadcast so is mighty fine. More to come if you so wish. The other half of the show was the legendary Pat Travers.

Absolutely. I believe punk rock was the "new" thing. I really wish there was a great "LONE STAR" tribute band

Sunday night at skindles Hotel in maidenhead 1977 I was blown away with this band . Following day went and bought both albums. And still got them.

WOW. I now live opposite that old nightclub now. Heard of LoneStar back in the mid/late 1970's whist at High Wycombe College, listened to Firing on all Six a lot and still do (Ballad of Crafty Jack plus Bells of Berlin are really fab). I also bought both LP's some time later on CD but still have the original 12" album on vinyl.
I saw that Skindles club decades ago and it has been knocked down and replaced with a fancy restaurant and flats. Years ago that venue also hosted Thin Lizzy and the Rolling Stones.
Thanks for the share and it is a small World at times. See my other post on here as I did communicate with John Sloman a few years ago.

I bought Firing on all Six back about 1977 and have communicated with the singer John Sloman a few years ago. He mentioned that Punk Rock killed them but they could have given Led Zep a run for their money. So true in my opinion and this LP is really fab, although a bit muddy with the production which John agreed with.
I still play this LP these days as the songwriting, playing and singing plus lyrics are really great.
Big shame that the drummer Dixie Lee died last year as he was very good. I am a 66 year old drummer so I know how good he was and he influenced me a lot.

They have one of the best lines ever in rock on this track; "that man he drink'um my whiskey, he smok'em my weed, stole my woman and planted his seed". Now this doomed outlaw hopelessly attempting to outrun fate was probably the most repeated theme in rock during the early 70's, though clearly the theme predates the rock era with classics such as Cocaine Blues, El Paso, Folsom Prison Blues ( with it's own classic line "i Shot a Man in Reno...), Long Black Veil, etc. Then after Hendrix hit Hey Joe out of the park in 67 the flood gates seemed to open right up with a long line of similarly themed classics including Dylan's Romance in Durango, Zeppelins Gallows Pole, the Dead put out an almost endless string of classics on this theme such as Friend of the Devil, Mexicali Blues, Duprees' Diamond Blues, Jack Straw, Me and My Uncle, etc other great tracks were Spooky Tooth's Hangman Hang my Shell and my personal favorite The Sad Bag of Shaky Jake by Humble Pie, rounding out the decade with Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and Styx's Renegade. After that Pretty much only Springsteen's State Trooper, Richard Thompson's 1952 Vincent Black Lightening, and Steve Earle's Billy Austin seem to stand out in my mind though I'm sure there are many that I'm missing...

Yeah, that one line on Ballad of Crafty Jack is a classic ...'that man ... he drunk my Whiskey, smoked my weed, stole my woman and planted his seed'. One sentence and sums it all up.

If the lead singer wasn't so openly a flammer this band would have soared! Stuff like that wasn't acceptable back then. It's no wonder some shitty country band stole their name. If it were me I'd sue. I love the second album side 2.

@@mrchipper4800 Ok I can sort of see the similarities but their music was so different than Led Zep. Perhaps you are right. Their loss they could have compromised.

@@thomasbeal8673 I was in a band in Cardiff at the same time Lone Star was around and everyone was saying why is he trying to do a Robert Plant...I agree Lone Stars style of music was nothing like Led Zep....but in my opinion the lack of originality of stage presence of front man ensured their failure.

@@mrchipper4800 Video killed the record star. LOL So true! All the antics and women's clothing. I have a ton of friends that did that and a couple still do. Ya if he could have just stood there and told the truth with some expressions unlike his. I never got to see the video or concert when Firing On All Six came out. We just tripped our cosmic asses off to it and man what a mind blower. I wouldn't mind reliving some of it..

great stuff. I first heard of Lonestar in 1982 when I was on a youth exploitation scheme. There was a guy in the place I was working who said he was a guitarist in lonestar after tonka had left and I heard a track called speedway. I don't know if I was being BS'd though as there is no one else mentioned on wiki, but as Abrham Lincoln said you should never believe everything on the internet..does anyone know if there was another line up after tonka had left....

Nigel Butterworth Great news ~ that's the whole broadcast. I have it all on cassette but not on video. It was broadcast way before my family had a video recorder! (I must've been 16 at the time ~ I saw Lone Star on this tour). Did you make the video recording yourself? I know that the band were looking for a copy themselves at one point!
