There are certain areas of your beard that you may not like or want to change. This is normal when it comes to maintaining and growing a beard. As I've said in previous beard videos that I like to keep my sides cut close and fade the hair. After receiving numerous requests I've gone ahead and made this "how to" video on fading your beard.
The technique of fading your beard is rather simple and straightforward. As always with trimming your beard you should exercise caution to avoid any accidents or unwanted hair removal.
To fade my beard I use regular electric clippers/trimmers. Starting with a number 4 guard I work my way up my sideburns. It's important to not start too low on your sideburns as you might take away hair that you don't intend to remove.
After my first couple of passes with the trimmer I work my way up while I decrease the size of the clipper guards. I continue to do this until the sideburns connect with the hair on the side of my head at roughly the same length.
Fading your beard is a great technique for those looking to step up their beard game and add a little bit of dimension to their sideburns. This is also a great look for men who are bald or shave their heads as the beard can be faded up into a shaved look.

My beard remains on this face because of this guy. Every time I think of bailing I end up for whatever reason watching a multitude of beard baron videos. Thanks man, much appreciated.

I've been completely afraid of the self fade lol. I'm even more afraid of a barber coming at my progressive beard with clips or scissors.
My beard has the same curly sideburns issues too. Watched your video again and took the plunge.
Slight fade to my shaved head and I really feel 100% better. Thanks again, I enjoy the videos

So today I bought hair cutting scissors, and trimmed the bottom of my beard. And when I was doing so, I kept hearing your voice: "Just crumbs, only take crumbs." It came out great, didn't go shorter, just neatened it up a bit. Also the angle that I held the scissors was definitely useful information. Every time I see you have a new video, I hope for that mustache one. But always good info!

The Beard Baron I did this the other night, and I think it turned out well. Took your advice and started off with a number 4 guard and just went from there. Think it turned out okay. I'm pleased with it so no problems. Here's a crappy picture of what it looks like (bad light in my living room) - imgur.com/XHUV9Jc

I have to say man, your vids are the BEST! -You have really helped me as I am growing my beard here in Vietnam! I'm having lots of fun because 99% of Vietnamese men cannot grow any facial hair. So, as my beard gets fuller and longer (3 months) the more attention I get. Beards in Asian culture are mythical and magical. Thanks for all your tips and I will be watching for more! BTW, I'm with you on the "fade" look.

Johnny: Thank you for the inspiration. I have had a full beard since I was 14 or 15. Freshman football it was sticking out beyond the faceguards. Anyway it has always been a freakizoid thing or I would cut it down close in later years. Now, mostly gray and winter, I decided to try to let it grow and maintain it. I cleaned up around the lower neck and the upper face. I am letting the stach grow too because I always used to trim that at the lip and the chin hair with the same size guard. I realized the chin hair sticks straight out, I realized after 40 years that some areas need to grow out while others need to be trimmed. I am growing and keeping it down with oil. For now... Went to barber today and he tried to convince me to cut it in some places. I told him to stick with the hair on my head.

One thing I never saw you mention when trimming your beard is if you trim it with product in your beard such as beard oil. What do you do up to the point before you comb out the hair and start trimming? I assume you would shampoo and apply oil, style it like normal then trim. Is that the correct way to go about it?

I wish I watched this video two days ago. I went to the barber to clean up the sideburns and believing he had a greater idea about beards than I had I trusted him and he really cut too much. The beard lost all it's fluffiness and the cheeks are just too low. Now it looks like some trendy crap, plus I feel kinda violated in the sense I let someone decide about it for me. Anyway I'm gonna shave and I'll be watching your videos for nostalgia and future training, it's been a great experience!

thanks for the video The Beard Baron because I shave my head, the sides of my beard looked huge against my head, this one video made a massive difference thank you!
also one side of my beard grows kinda wavy, any tips as to help it grow straight?

Richie Braz Glad the video helped Richie! Added length can help with waviness as it adds weight to the hair. Beard oil can also help relax those waves a little bit for a straighter look.

The one question I've been wondering about your beard is how do you get your beard long like that? It seems the thicker mine grows in, it not only gets long but wide as well. How do you get the sides of your beard thinned out so well. Not just the sideburns where your focused in this video but lower than that.

I did pretty good on my taper for my first time, ever. And my beard hair is quite thin. But I should have used a comb also. So I'll be doing that next time.

      @thebeardbaron  10 років тому +1

Hey Fallenout, glad you liked it :) As for the barber it all comes down to how much do you trust your barber fading vs how much do you trust yourself fading.
