  • This video provides step-by-step repair instructions for replacing the heating element and rear housing assembly on a Frigidaire dryer. The most common reasons for replacing the heating element are when the dryer doesn’t heat, is too hot, takes too long, trips the breaker, or won’t stop.

    Great job! Cleaning out the lint from inside the dryer is important, kudos to you for doing the job right!

    Thanks for the question! We always have suggestions :-) This is most likely an air flow issue. The dryer would be plugged either in the blower or in the venting if this is the case. When this happens the moisture builds up and drips out through the vent.

    This video is showing how to replace the heating element and the rear housing assembly. This is not meant to rip anyone off, we're just showing how to replace the whole assembly. If you go to the part page that is linked in the description of this video you will see a link to the heating element coil by itself.

    I had a heater problem with a Gibson dryer which is exactly built as the model shown in the video. It really helped me take the dryer appart in 10 minutes. The technical electric schema was inside the dryer accessible by the small panel at the back of the machine just besides the motor. After some tests with the voltmeter, I though the heater was dead (infinite resistance between black and yellow). I confirmed that once the dryer was open. You can easily get just the element at a store nearby. SAVED A LOT OF MONEY! A big thanks!

    The dryer not heating could be quite a few different things. I would recommend going to the repair help section of our website (link in the description), inputting your model number there, and use it as a guide to figuring out what part is bad. Some of the parts (such as the thermal fuse) have part testing videos on their part pages. Please let me know if this helps!

    It appears that on your model there are four screws on the back of the dryer that are holding the plate in place. You'll have to unscrew these from behind the dryer to get at the coil.

    With your help👍 I replaced the ball “hitch” assembly (along with the belt) causing my Frigidaire dryer to squeal.
    Everything worked great….for a day.
    Then it tumbled but no heat.
    I have it apart again and
    1. breaker is fine so I ASSUME it’s getting 240 volts
    2. Thermal fuses and heating coil show continuity.
    Any other suggestions??

  • @repairclinic
    @repairclinic  11 років тому

    Oh no! That's frustrating. I would suggest going to our website and inputting your model number into our repair help (link in the description of this video). My guess is you accidentally shorted out a thermostat when replacing the belt. I hope this helps!

  • @mmcintyre5438
    @mmcintyre5438 11 років тому

    OK, mission accomplished, note : when the top is removed while the drum & belt are still attached measure a direct line when the drum is aligned and outline the belt track to insure it will be on track when reinstalled. Also, the metal framework on the dryer frame is weak, don't apply more pressure to it because if it bends parts might be out of line when you reinstall parts.

  • @wolfprincess027
    @wolfprincess027 11 років тому

    When we ordered a new heating element for our Frigidaire dryer, we were sent the metal coil that wraps around the inside of the metal shield, not the full assembly. How do we replace that?

  • @frankf110
    @frankf110 5 років тому +1

    Anyone ever notice the drum in the video is missing the piece on the backside to make the install easier. Mine has like a metal plate and it must of rubbed the heating elements. I think one of the screws got a hold of the heating element and unraveled some of it and breaking it. So far the belt change is costing more money.

    I honestly do not know. We shoot our videos in batches that span over several days. He may have cut it doing something on the dryer but it may have been completely unrelated to the video. If a part of the repair involves something sharp we always put the "sharp" icon in the bottom right corner of the video.

    ***CHECK OUTLET TERMINALS - THEY MAY BE LOOSE*** After taking apart the dryer and testing all the parts, it turned out to be one loose terminal in the outlet, so the dryer was only getting 120V so it would turn on and spin, but no heat. ***I SHUT OFF AND REMOVED THE DRYER BREAKER FIRST*** 220V WILL KILL YOU SO BE CAREFUL TO SHUT OFF ALL POWER*** I bent the terminal closer with needle nose pliers and now it's heating fine. I also replaced all of the breakers before checking the outlet, hindsight is 20/20!

    This was very helpful and my dryer now heats as expected and taking time to clean the interior of the dryer (lint/dust) was a good exercise, but now my drum is dragging. I tightened the screws to the hitch plate and the dryer spins fine empty, but put wet clothes in there and it drags and may stop with too much weight. Not sure what I've done wrong putting it back together. Thanks.

    I tried to submit a question on here and it said it was "pending approval". Then it was gone. So, I am trying again..... I was asking if the drum is supposed to be free-standing when you put it back again so it rotates freely, or is supposed to lean against one of the sides until all steps are completed?

    DON'T BE RIPPED OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this video shows you the 'heating element' as one big item (plate with a coil mounted on it). you ONLY NEED TO BUY THE COIL. the coil should cost about 12 bucks, buying the whole element costs about $70!!!!. you do NOT need to replace the whole big metal plate!

      Keep in mind, with this assembly, you get all new isolators and high limit switch, not a bad deal if you take all that into account.
      The "plate" is just a redundant part of the assembly.

The coil won't come off until this plate is off. I can't get it off. I need help.

    I did everything correctly by watching the video and following along. Everything was placed and replaced correctly. My dryer works, and heats. However, for some reason it heats way to hot! After a few minutes on medium heat, I look in the dryer and see the coils are red hot, the dryer has a burnt smell, and the top of the dryer is way to hot to even touch. Obviously its not heating correctly, and is out of control. How do I correct the problem? Please Help.

      Hi Jewell can I ask you a few questions...We have stripped down our Frigidaire Dryer because our 16 year old appliance seemed to be over heating. That felt piece that sits on the edge of the heat assembly was actually burnt when we took the whole thing out. Our dryer has a scorch mark on the back at the top of the dryer. What problem were you having before you replaced with this new one that for you does not seem to be functioning properly because as you say you replaced it correctly. Also did yours come with the Thermostat attached, we are in Canada and maybe things are different, would really appreciate your input...Thanks.

  • @Grondhammar
    @Grondhammar 11 років тому

    I'm not sure if it's the same since mine is not that model, but I had EXACTLY the same problem (removed three screws from the back of the drum, and found a shiny silver plate keeping the heating element from going anywhere). Apparently this attached to the back of the machine in a socket. Grab the silver plate and pull up. The ball will pop out with some effort. If your dryer is linty between the back and the heating element, clean that off and you'll see the ball and socket.

    I have the same model dryer in the video but the drum won't lift out easily after disconnecting the belt. What do I do to get it out?? I've used these videos to replace the belt in the past but now the dryer won't heat. I can't get to the heating coil because I can't get the drum out. Any ideas?

    • @normm5025
      @normm5025 6 років тому

      I thought I had the same problem, but it was that I needed to apply more upwards force than I thought. The drum ball joint has to pop out of its socket, and there is a vertical slot that it will travel up once released. Hold the drum level and have a friend help you pull upwards with a lot of force. It will pop out.
