But also if they needed someone to take him down the it wouldn't be shaw it would be Brian. But since Paul is gone I understand Y they can't use him. They've already explained that Brian and Mia are "retired" to family life, which makes sense considering how they ended the last one.
There's gotta be something bigger here for the reason why dom is going against the family. I have to admit that we all have grown up with these characters including Brian and Mia. Let me end it with this Vince said "Fast 7 is for Paul while Fast 8 is from Paul." I have high hopes for this but interesting if they will connect to the next one.
Pre-trailor teasers have said that Brian is totally out of the scene and moved on to domestic life with Mia, which is pretty much how they wrote his character off

iv'e just watched this movie and i gotta say its the BEST F&F SO FAR!!!! i can see how they care for each other. the value of friendship is unbroken whenever someone is in danger some of them would step on the line even if it means sacrificing your own life my favorite scene is where they all make a shield to Protect Dom from the massive explosion that's just so COOL and very touching ive just cried literally at that part it motivates me to become a movie star but i know its just a dream of mine THANK YOU F&F you've made my life so F*** AWESOME
